I have MANY days where I am so inspired by other people on SCS that when I finally do get to stamp, I can't help but CASE some of what I have seen. I always give credit and even post a link to the card that inspired me.
Lately there have been a lot of cards lifted and put on sites trying to be passed off as their own and because of this I have started to watermark my cards. Not because I think my stuff is that good but it is my creation. Which leads me to the question - If it's CASE'd do you still watermark it? Do you watermark it without a "Design By..." or is that misleading to others?
Just curious about the "right" thing to do. Opinions, please.
Thats a good question, and I'm not sure. I think that if it's a staight case, you wouldn't watermark it as your design, but if it was inpired by someone, and you changed enough to make it yours, then it is yours, and you should watermark it as such. That's just my thought, I'd also like to hear what others think.

I would think if you are giving credit to the person that inspired you. Then you should Watermark the card as your own. As you did not steal their card.
You just took the inspiration from it.
But I think I would just watermark my name on the photo. This way you're covered!

I agree, I think that if you change it- make it yours a bit you should watermark it. But if it is identical you shouldn't. I did case one that was almost identical except for the ribbon, stamp and stamp placement. The only identical bit was the background and layout. That I put a watermark on--I felt it was different enough. (I did put a link to the original in the descriptions) I think this will be a totally subjective matter and each person should decide for themself. Now if the original designer contated me and told me to remove the watermark I would. just my opinion.
How many things do you have to change before a CASE becomes an inspiration? If you change the stamp set and the colors but use the layout? (Which can sometimes be very hard... especially since we have the challenges now.)
The last thing I would ever want is to have someone who inspired me think I was stealing their idea, YKWIM?
Should I pm the person first and maybe ask if it's okay to watermark it with just name?

What does CASE mean to you?
Case: copy and steal everything or copy and share everything. Is the way I have heard it.
If I case someone I usually change a lot of it. and make it my own.

I think its subjective.... The card I wrote about looks alot like the other- used the A2 die and such. To me it looked too similar. But to someone else it may not. Its not identical, but its very very close! I usually change things up but this time not much. I know let me get the link to it hold on

I've seen so many threads on watermarks lately and I have some questions. Should you only use them if you are a demo or should everyone use them? I think it makes sense for a lot of the stampers that are published and the work in the DD gallery. But if I'm just stamp for pleasure kinda girl should I have a watermark?!
Also, how are people finding out that their cards are being lifted and put out on other sites?

I don't put "designed by" in my watermark. Just my initials and name (I copied momto3boys!) just to show that the PHOTO is mine, not really for any other purpose.
I'm sorry, but what I see here is two cards that use an extremely basic design scheme. The fact that both use the same A2 folder probably make it seem like they are "identical," but there are probably THOUSANDS of us on SCS alone that have that same folder, lol. So, no, I would not call this a "CASE."
As far as "should" people use watermarks, I guess that just depends. How would you feel if you came across you work on some website and saw that it was credited to someone else? If you think that would bother you, then yes, a watermark is a good idea. Putting one on your image isn't "egotistical" by any means! Especially when you consider that many companies, like Stampin' Up, require copyright info to be used.
if it's identical in every way, it's a complete case. I'd watermark with the inspiree's name and that this one was made by you. There are some that have their artwork published in magazines, etc., that have had their images stolen for other websites, that's the predominant reason for watermarking. If you've cased it, give credit and DON"T submit it for contests or whatever, chances are, it's been published. There are many hot hot designers hanging around here and I'd like to see them still contribute to SCS!!!
