When people post in B/S/T, why do they mark things they've already sold/traded as "Sold" or "Traded"? Or edit their wishlist items as "Got it". Why not just delete that line from the post it it's no longer pertinent?
The reason I ask is that when I"m looking for a specific item, I use the seach function, and it brings up a lot of threads that had that item but it's already sold. If the line was deleted instead of edited to add the word "sold" or "traded", then the search function would work so much better.
I don't mean this to be snarky at all. I'd just like to understand, because there must be a reason so many people do this.
My general method is this: If someone has expressed interest, firm interest, but we have not yet discussed payment, I post Pending. If they pay immediately, by Paypal, and the set is outta here  , I delete the entire item. If they are paying by check, and I am waiting for the check to arrive, I post SOLD. Just in case it does not arrive, the post is intact....When the check comes, the item gets deleted from the list.
I just double checked on a post of mine in BST and even when you delete the stamp set (and no one else has used that word in their replies/posts), it still comes up in the search. So I'm not sure how deleting them narrows your search down any (except that it makes me think me or my computer is crazy sometimes). : )

I usually mark items 'sold' for a day or so, then delete them. I leave them there for a little bit in case someone has subscribed to the topic and comes back later looking for something. That way they won't be left scratching their head wondering why in the world they were interested in that list in the first place.
