Default Prismacolor Pencil types

Does anyone know if thee are differrent types of the Prismacolor pencils. I went to purchase some at Michaels and noticed there are 2 different packaging - one in a cardboard box and one in a metal tin at twice the price. Is it just the packaging or are there different types.

Yes, there are more than one type. There are extra thin, and also a small set in a tin box that is marked Premium Lightfast. It says ASTM-approved Lightfast Rating. I bought them with a coupon when I was in Florida. Now, did I need them? I'm not certain. They were more expensive than the regular Prismacolor, but there I was, away from home, and no colored pencils. I didn't want to duplicate what I already had, so I thought I'd try the new one, as I had a coupon.

The only differences in Prismacolor pencils that I know of is this...the one with the gold band at the bottom is used for watercolor purposes; the one that doesn't have a band is just a good quality colored pencil.

yes there are different Prismacolor pencils.

There is the scholar brand, those are the cheapest & equivalent to crayola. sold at walmart ect. harder lead, wont blend if you are wanting to try the techinque with oderless mineral spirits.

then there is the artist grade, much more expenisve ones. thats the ones to use with the oderless mineral spirits.

and there is the watercolor ones.

HTH.
