Default prismacolor pencil help

I want to buy the prismacolor pencils, but am confused as to what kind I should buy? Do I want the lead pencils or do I want the watercolored pencils? Viking carries the lead pencils and so does staples. But very few places carry the watercolored pencils. Can anyone help.

TIA- Theresa

Most everyone that has the pencils has the lead pencils and these are pencils they use for the Magic Colored Pencils Technique. The deal they have at Viking for the 120 piece lead pencils is an awesome price with the extra $20 off.
I am very happy with my Prismacolor lead and really have not needed the water color, that is not saying I wouldn't mind having them, I have just not seen them anywhere.

Colored pencils generally come in 3 kinds...soft lead, hard lead, and the watercolor.

The soft lead are the ones specifically known as Prismacolors. They're great for coloring. You can get a really solid color and they blend together if you use more than one color.

The hard leads are Verithins. They have a much arder lead and don't give as complete coverage and have more of an artsy feel to them. They're generally a bit less expensive than the soft leads.

Watercolors are a great toy...drawn on they look a lot like the hard leads, but when you wet them (with a blender pen, wet paint brush or aquapainter) they're just like watercolors without the mess.

I actually have all 3 (art major in a former life) and the watercolors are my favorite for cardmaking

After all the talk about colored pencils lately I pulled mine out. I have the prismacolor watercolor pencils (bought them at michaels). I LOVE them!! They are fantastic, easy to use and give a great watercolor technique.

One tip. In my lid I put a piece of paper and wrote all of the names of the colored pencils then next to it I wrote the name of the SU color that matches with the coordinating marker. So It helps me get right what I need!

Wow, see that, in a few minutes you have all the answers you need. I found out a lot too. I had no idea there were 3 different kinds, actually I did not know about the watercolor pencils until the other day from this site. Now I might just have to really look for them.
Thanks for all the information. This site is just a wealth of information! You are all wonderful!
