So for some reason I just don't understand the whole "retired" thing. What does it mean exactly when SU retires a set? Does that mean you can't use it any more, or does it mean you just can't buy it any more? I get that if you don't have it, this is the last time to buy it, right? But if you have it, does it matter if it's being retired?
I think my brain is addled from too much sniffing of the ink pads!

For a SU demo it means that they can no longer "demo" that specific set since their customers will not be able to purchase it.
For a non-demo (like myself) the retired list doesn't bother me because I can still play with my toys and not be sad about them retiring.
You cant buy it anymore basically. SU Demos cant use retired sets in home parties, since they cant sell them anymore. For us who are just customers, buy it if you cant live without it
All of the Retired talk is that SU will not be selling the sets on the retired list after January 1st. A month before the new catty hits, they put out a Retired List. everyone looks at it and buys what sets they want before the deadline as after that you cannot buy them anymore unless you get them from the Buy/Sell/Trade forum or on Ebay,
As a customer it only means that this is your last chance to purchase the set new. As a demo it means it is the last chance to use the set in a business form (not saying you can never use a retired set at a class or workshop, but why, when noone can order it). Tana in WI
"retired" mean going out of production
in the case of this SU list, you can order by January 2, 2008, after that they will be discontinued forever
if you'd like a particular set after that you can check on buy/sell forums, eBay, etc if there's one you want
Ohhhh! (light-bulb moment!) NOW I understand.
so basically it's "buy it now or it's gone forever".
which means I better take a look.
thanks for 'splaining!

Retired is a marketing word for discontinued. Basically, if a stamp is retired it shouldn't be demoed just because the customers can no longer get it. Some retired sets really go up in value. Some demonstrators get rid of the retired sets, others keep them. I am only a hobby demo, for the discount, I keep every set I ever get. I hope that helps.
