Please tell me what is so great about the mono adhesive
I bought the tombow mono adhesive today at the LSS, tell me what is so great about it!! I have been using the hermafix products up until now, but everyone here talks about the mono adhesive so I had to know!!!
I love mono adhesive - so easy to use, not messy and very cheap if you buy it using the Viking discount codes. I like Hermafix a lot also and would consider using it if it was as cheap as the mono.
I'm using mono adhesive but keep wondering if there's anything a little better. After a while, it seems like the edges of my paper sticks up a little. I've been stamping for about 3 years in a Stamping UP club and love it. However, I'm new to SplitCoastStampers! I'm addicted!!!!
A friend told me about duck brand easy stick. It comes in a red dispenser I find it in the office supply asile at Wal Mart. You can buy a package of 4 for 8.27. I like that they are disposable-so easy.
Creating Keepsakes magazine also rated them safe for your scrapbook.
Sorry! I can't tell you anything good about the mono! I am NOT a fan of the mono adhesive. sure, it's relatively easy to use. I find that if i don't apply pressure just right, i am not getting consistent coverage. I have converted to scotch double-stick tape - easy to use, cheap, and sticks much better than the mono.
I was actually thinking about this question at work! I have been using the tombow adhesive and it's ok. I've been disappointed about how much tape never comes off the paper, though. I was going to ask if anyone preferred tombow to the new SU SNAIL. Any comments?
I use the adhesives, but I've been unhappy lately pulling out some of my older cards - parts are falling off. I've been using double sided tape & I'm REALLY happy with that.

I am not a fan of Mono...I don't like the way it dispenses and/or sticks. I recently tried the Duck brand stuff and it didn't stick :( I was bummed! It dispensed so nicely, laid nice even lines of adhesive and didn't get gucked up like Mono. But, if it doesn't stay stuck, it won't work for me! My favorite thing I've found so far is a tape runner from Michael's made by Henzo or Henzio (not exactly sure). It resembles the old style CM tape runners and works well for cards (though I don't like it for scrapbooking...I'm extremely picky, can ya tell?)
I really love the Tombow Temporary Mono Adhesive! It helps to line everything up before I make a final decision and it rubs off so easy! It also works if you need to photograph your cards and want to keep them closed for best view. Just my 2 cents...
All adhesives are NOT created equal. You need different adhesives for different types of surfaces. For example, double stick tape is the best for crimped paper. Don't like the "red adhesive" from Wal Mart...even if it is "cheap"...it is "cheap" in terms of quality. You pay for what you get. I love the mono for making a lot of cards. It is quick and easy. I love my Hermafix for scrappin photos and for scrapbooking in general. Creative Memories tape runners are a "good thing" for scrapbooking, too.
You need to find the right adhesive for whatever project you are working on. If you need adhesive for scrapbooking needs, spend the money 'cause your photos and memories are worth it.
You are so right Daisy. I was a die-hard CM fan, so when I started making cards, I tried to just us my CM products. The first thing I discovered was the paper was too light weight for cards. (great for scrapbooking when weight is an issue, but not good for cards) So I bought SU card stock. LOVE IT! But then I was using my CM tape runner for cards and nothing stayed stuck. So I bought mono. and I LOVE IT. One day I tried to stamp on CM paper to make a watermark, and it didnt' show up. I had to remember CM stuff is made to work with CM products and for scrapbooking purposes. And it works great! But their paper is not designed to absorb ink and their tape runner is designed to work best on their paper and their scrapbook pages. I've just learned I have to have different tools for different projects and purposes.
I have tried so many different kinds and right now I'm "sticking" with my Hermafix tabs and Elmer's glue stick. I have not had good luck with either the Duck brand or the tombo. Neither one provided consistent adhesive lines or they wouldn't roll onto the page at all. I've tried a few others that I can't remember the names of, if I had all that money back I could buy a few more stamp sets!
I think the mono/snail is ok, and good for sticking, but I always have trouble with it pulling up (like melted cheese on a hot pizza  ) if I'm not paying attention...
It seems I am the only fan of the Hermafix Transfer. I use the permanent kind, and after altering the dispenser have had really good luck. What I like is that it's really easy to put a few adhesive dots onto the corner of the cardstock, so they stick down. Any dots that stick over on the edge are easily rubbed off with my finger. the way the tape runner is on the rubber roller part that you press onto the stock doesn't get in the way at all, like with others, mono-the cheap kind from Wally's ect. (I HAVE tried them all!)
I also like the double-sided tape. But I find that it makes the cards so heavy. And it's harder to use than my Dotto. So I have settled into the Dotto with Glue dots when I really need to bring out the big guns...

PS I love this place! Where else can I find a place to really discuss indepth the various attributes of what others just call "tape"?
I am confused, I recently was told by another demo that she used rubber cement! Never mind the fumes and stains...
Does the mono from Viking, when it says purple, is that the dispenser or the adhesive color?
It to me is very easy and controlled. I have only been stampin for about 1 year and until 4 months ago I used a glue stick because that is what my demonstrator used in a workshop. I am completely addicted now.
My demo turned me on to tacky glue. If you use a few dots of the glue, it holds great! I have not had any problems with my cards falling apart. I make sure to not use too much because it will get stiff. The 2nd best part is that it's CHEAP!!! $1.50 for a 5oz bottle.
Can't beat that!!!

For me, hermafix dotto is the ultimate. But it's so expensive I only use it for scrapbooking. I use mono for cards and haven't had the unstuck problem. I did have to learn how to press it down evenly to get it work right. I only buy gluesticks for my kids!
I use Scotch double stick tape. I have tried mono and did not feel like it was holding the cards together at all.
That was just my experience. I love the double stick tape! Go get some!

i used to use elmer's glue stick - but for mass-producing it just is too messy! I typically use the double-stick tape. for mass-producing (not for demo'ing) i invested in the ATG 700? double stick tape gun. the refills are cheap (the gun was an investment at $50). but it is quick, easy, and permanent. this was the only adhesive that worked for me to adhere to velvet paper in my wedding invitations. the investment was well worth it!
You know, I used to use the mono when I first started stamping, and I thought it was great. When I needed to replace it and bought a refill, though, it did not seem to work as well--or at ALL, for that matter. I thought maybe they changed the formula or something.
So, I tried the Xyron brand adhesive, and I love it! It seems to work really well, even with textures. The great thing is, since you push it straight down and click to advance the tape, you can push down on it again to get the rest of the adhesive onto your project. It's great! Less wasted!

I got the new "SNAIL" adhesive in my starter kit and I can't get it to work right. It seems to not come off very well, anyone else having that problem?? I think I might just leave that in the drawer for my Open house on Sunday and bring out the old reliable tombow ones!!
I really like the plain old glue stick. I usually go over my paper with my brayer. I haven't had a problem with anything falling off over time.

I started out with double stick scotch tape, but it's bulky and you have to have a clunky tape dispenser in your work area.
I switched to Tombo permanent because it is quick and thin and light. However, sometimes on certain types of papers, Tombo doesn't hold very well. (It doesn't work for building boxes at all.)
But if I put Tombo on both sides of what I am adhering, it does hold firmly. I go through it pretty fast, but like someone said, if you get it in volume from Viking, the price is better.
Looking at these posts, I'm totally confused. I haven't been stamping or scrapping all that long and have used Hermafix because that was what my demo recommended. I was very pleased with it; now that it's gone, does anybody know where I can buy it? (Unless someone can convince me that something else is better)!
Is Snail the same as the mono or tombow that everyone is talking about and orders from Viking? I'm assuming Snail replaces hermafix, right?
Also, is the sticky strip flat--would it be good for adhering ribbon, for example? Would it be good for general CS layering for cards?
I used the 2-way glue stick today for DD glitter, and it was great. But it didn't work for layering CS, as the layers came apart after about an hour.
Sorry to be so basic in my questions, but I'm just now advancing enough to realize that one adhesive won't fill all my needs. And my demo is out of town for another week!! I think I need Adhesives 101! Thanks.

I have been stamping for almost 5 years now, and I almost always use Tacky Glue. It is soooo cheap and easy to use as long as you only apply in thin lines. I have tried the mono and found that if I didn't apply pressure exactly right, it wouldn't get great coverage. I received a Xyron 510 for Christmas, and I LOVE it. It makes assembling cards so easy. It does get a little expensive, but the time I save is worth it for me. I do still use Tacky Glue, too.
I can never find the red duck brand in my neck of the woods; I love mono. Its the easiest thing I've ever worked with. I've tried the scotch tape runner, Creative Memories tape runner, hermafix, and pioneer and Mono has been the easiest by far. And now with the tip of the super deals on the refills from Viking, I'll never look back! I use the removable hermafix in my scrapbook, but its mono all the way for my cards!
I quit using mono adhesive after several of the dispensers got all messed up somehow..I am sure it was my fault but switched to double sided tape and love it..not much can go wrong with a tape dispenser.
