Interesting. I didn't think it was 'clear as mud' at all.
None of the manufacturers was actually happy about them being used for crafting with out being involved in the painting process as well. They were polite but not enthusiastic about the idea.
Glidden points out that they are expensive then says, "So, although we respect the creativity and talents of those who use color chips for purposes other than painting, it can compromise our programs at retail. "
Sherwin Williams - "One thing for crafters to consider is to talk with paint retail outlets directly as stores may have out-of-date paint chips that they’d be happy to provide." In other words, we'd rather you didn't take the current ones, only ones we don't use any more.
Behr, "once they’ve tackled a painting project, we encourage do-it-yourselfers to use and recycle paint chips in interesting ways." (take them to choose your paint then recycle them)
