Default Organizing a Scraproom

When you have YOUNG KIDS!

So, I've seen some AMAZING scraprooms that make me drool! However, I've not seen any that address little hands that like to open drawers, pull things off shelves and ultimately help themselves! LOL!

So, give me some tips! right now my stuff is UP UP and away from little hands (by insistance of my DH - SAHD). They don't play persay in the room much (it's gated off - no doors) but they do go in there if they want to scrap with me or play with DH on the 'puter.

What do YOU do??

thx,
dana

I've just taught my kids to stay out of my stuff. But, my kids aren't home all day during the week - I'm single and work. So, I'm usually with them unless they're in bed.
My 13 yr. old always asks before he uses any of my stuff and my 4 year old - dare I say it - knows not to get into my stuff without me.

My area is also gated off. I don't know what kind of storage you have but I keep all my supplies in cabinets and drawers or on shelves. On all of my cabinets and drawers I have put the magnetic safety door locks that you use the little magnet "key" to open up. (you can get them at Wal-Mart in the baby section) I hope this helps a little bit, I know it can be a mess if they get into your stuff. I myself have a 3, 2, and 1 year old so it all has to be put away so they can't see it or get there grubby little hands on it.

Try setting up a small table with child friendly supplies that is their workspace. Teach them that they work in their area while you work in yours. Children look to mom as a role model and will imitate what you do. I believe with this kind of set up they will grow up with a creative spirit just like you!

I have been lucky that my 5 year old knows not to touch. However, I did get her the Cuttlekids, so she knows she can go and get that out herself and then she asks me for paper. And my supplies are in the livingroom, easy access.

My son just turned 4 and he pretty much keeps out of my stuff. I bought him his own craft supplies too. He has washable ink and stamps, paper, glue sticks, different foamies, etc...
