Default Order for Christmas Cards....

I am too excited! Making cards is a hobby for me. I am in it more for the pleasure of making cards, seeing the final product and the joy in sending out my cards to family / loved ones.

I was asked to teach a class at work. I spent the last two weekends coming up with the cards that I would do at the class next week. The group are not particularly crafty - so thankfully they are simple cards.

Today I brought in my samples to show the group. One of my co-workers (not taking the class) liked one of the cards so much - she ordered 90 of them. 90! This is a first for me. I quoted her $3.00 for each card but for that quantity, I will give her a price break. Any suggestions on how I should price that quantity?

Guess what I will be doing in my spare time for the next few weeks.

Way to go! Don't know much about pricing...but would say it depends on the complexity of the cards and the embellishments you use. Enjoy!

How much do your materials cost and how long does each card take to make? Figure in your costs and time when doing pricing. Figure out how much you want to make per hour for making cards. Once you have figured out your hourly rate and how long it takes you to make a card, figure out your price per card based on the cost of your time making the card plus materials. Some people also double or triple the cost of materials when figuring out the price.

So, if you want to make $10 per hour and you can make 10 of these cards per hour (from start to finish), then your work is worth $1 per card. If your materials are 50 cents per card, you can either add in the 50 cents or double or triple that amount and then add it in. Don't forget to add in the cost of adhesive. Some also add in extra for wear and tear on their materials and use of things such as ink and stamps. Also, don't forget to add in the cost for envelopes and any special packaging.
