I currently have Comcast Highspeed cable, and their recent switch to "Dynamic Servers" (whatever that means) is wreaking havoc on those who use Airport (Apple/Mac) stations (routers) for their wireless networking.
I have been tearing my hair out for days and think perhaps I just need to switch ISPs.
Thanks for your insights on either of the DSL providers mentioned.

I just switched from DSL provided by Qwest to Comcast. I'm not using a wireless, and I have a windows based PC, so I'm not having any of those issues. But I was very unhappy with Qwest. It seems like every three months, to every other month, I'd have something wrong with it. Just last week (and the final straw that made me switch), I was without email service (though I could go online and browse the web) for 5 hours. I called and they fixed it, but with no explanation as to why the server my account is on was down. I'm sure there are people who are completely happy with Qwest, but I want an email service I don't have to think about. So, I'd love to here what Verizon users have to say.

I have had qwest with msn premium for a couple of years and have not had any problems at all. Occssionally there is an msn problem with thier network but never an issue with qwest
My husband used to work at Speakeasy.net (www.speakeasy.net). Speakeasy is maybe a little more expensive, but they are based in Seattle and have 24-7 customer service right here that actually tries to be helpful... They also have several packages you can choose from. If you think it is the dynamic IP that is causing problems, I would try to get a package from whatever ISP that includes a static IP address.
Anyway, we used Speakeasy before Jeff worked there, and we still use it now that Jeff doesn't work there. We really like them!

Well, we have Verizon DSL and it works great, we have had it for about 4yrs.
I really don't use it for email and such, just for the service and have no complaints what so ever. We have their new modem wireless router thingie and have about 5 computers hooked up. We are all networked to one printer etc and things are working great. I must say I have not heard of the Qwest in my area so I can not honestly comment on them.

The following is a post from the Apple.com website about Comcast switching over to their DHCP servers and how one person got around the issue of not being able to connect via their airport modem.
"If you use Comcast and cannot connect via wireless try this:
Open applications/utilities/airport admin utility
select your base station
click configure
click internet
whatever is typed into the dns servers input boxes, delete it
update your base station
and you are connected to the internet.
It makes perfect sense if you have this problem. You base station has been trying to connect to the WAN using a decomissioned dns server. All Comcast dns servers are now distributed dynamically via the dhcp server.
BTW we love our Verizon DSL and if you are using Macs, the MacMail and Safari programs work great. If you have issues with certain websites (ones that don't like Safari) Firefox works great.
Buzzy, I swear I've tried this solution to no avail. But, I will try again. I've also read those forums and tried to apply what they described, but I'm not versed enough to understand everything they are saying, or where to find it . . .
Should I have the Airport AND the modem connected like I originally had them before all this happened? Right now, I've disconnected the Airport altogether and hooked the cable modem back into the computer directly.
Or, do I just have the Airport hooked up to the eMac, do the above, and THEN rehook everything back up????

I would hook your airport modem up to the Comcast cable and establish the link to your computer. Then go and do the setup of the base station.
From my limited experience with Airport (hooking up to hotel wireless networks) this should work. If it doesn't, let me know and I'll talk to my computer geek at work and get it nailed for you.
I talked with my computer geek here at work. He told me he had the exact same issue with his home computer. What he would like you to do is:
Plug the comcast cable into the modem and wait 30 seconds or so for the modem to initialize (all the lights blink). Then plug the cable from the modem to the base station in and wait for the base station to initialize. Then turn your computer on.
Once it boots up go to the Airport Admin Utility (Applications/Utilities). Highlight the base station and click on the configure button. He said there should be an ethernet tab in the window that opens. Make sure that it is configured to use DHCP (it should be the default, if not just select it from the popup menu). In the DNS Servers fields: in the first field use the number 68.87.73.242 in the second field use the number 68.87.71.226
If there are any numbers in these fields go ahead and delete them and put the new ones in. When you close the window it should ask you if you want to save the changes. If it doesn't prompt you to save or the changes don't work right away you may have to reboot the computer for it to take affect.
From what I've been able to read about it appears that Comcast deleted a bunch of servers and neglected to make sure people knew the new server addresses (the numbers above). He said once he got these numbers in as the DNS servers he was back online and ready to roll.
If this doesn't work for you, contact me directly and I will give you his personal email. He said he would be willing to walk you through until it worked.
Well, Buzzy. I tried 3x, following the instructions precisely. Also tried doing a hard re-set on the AEBS. No luck. :(
Are the DNS server numbers above universal for ALL Comcast customers? Or should I call 'em and see if they are different, depending on area or____?????
I wish I were smarter about all this stuff . . . :(
