Okay, I've been a crafter for quite a long time. However, scrapbooking I've done for a few years and I'm really into papercrafts now. I absolutely love SU and I'm trying to decide what I absolutely must have. I'm in a card club and love staggering my stuff out, plus in a few weeks I'm having my party and plan to purchase the Big Shot.
Any suggestions on must haves? My favorite things to create are ABAC and especially the Fall/Hhalloween and Christmas items.
Truly the only MUST haves are SIP_ stamps, ink, paper. Beyond that it's wants. For stamps- pick a line art set that you love and know you'll use. You might consider one of the multi-holiday type sets to start. For ink, a Basic Black classic ink pad, IMHO, is the must have starter ink pad. For paper, a package of Whisper White and then an Assortment Pack from the color family of your choice. This will get you stareted quite nicely.
That's about it for me. And I've sort of gotten away from scrapping in favor of card making for now. I belong to a 3D club that my demo runs, and that's fun. We make little boxes and clipboards and things of that sort, which are great for using up scraps of pretty paper.
Honestly, though good advice on basics have been given here, most of what has been listed can be bought much less expensively at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, etc. with a coupon, and they will be the exact same. The only exclusive SU! products are the stamps, ink, and CS. They are great quality and work best together. I love the matching part of their products, and they have buttons, ribbon, and a variety of other accessories that match!
Like some others have already said,
I would definitely the mat pack. It comes with a piercing/eyelet placement template and high density foam pad and a hard pad for those that still set their eyelets with an eyelet setting tool (rather than a CAD)
If you like ABAC then I would get the matchbox die to go with your new Big Shot you plan on getting :-) I've seen some neat things done with it.
Bonefolder- it really helps to make nice scorelines for all those anything but a card projects
Designer Paper- Some of it coordinates with stamp sets in the SU catty as you probably already know. There are a bunch of new ones about to be released in July.
Some basic punches- circles, squares, ovals, word window, 5 petal flower. I would start with two of the same shape for layering purposes.
Niceties- Crop A Dial, SU's coordinating ribbons/embellies
A good multi purpose sentiment set. There is an awesome set coming in the new catty but a good basic is that you can currently get is Sincere Salutations

I would suggest a versamark pad. It gives a watermark effect instead of stamping a color. It makes the cardstock slightly darker where you stamp it. It is also sticky and can be used for embossing.

I'll be repeating some of what the other girls said. I just got into stamping & card making myself - love my SU demonstrator =] I started with all occasion stamp sets - Pun Fun, Eight Great Greetings but have bought/earned more since. SU ink pads are fantastic & I started with Chocolate Chip & Basic Black but have a few more now. I already had a paper trimmer and adhesive. From there you go with whatever else you like for embellishments - brads, flowers, etc. OH & I also recommend getting good punches that aren't a pain to operate. And the stamp cleaner from SU is great too! I have added the blender pens to my supply too.
I've been stamping/card making for maybe 2 months...it is a fun hobby to get into but you can really fall in "love" with a lot of the products!

I love to make mini albums - paper bag, chipboard, etc. I've also done paint cans, lunch pails & decor to hang on the wall at Christmas - had pics of my kids in santa hats. I have a clipboard to work on too. I love altering items & finding creative gifts around Christmas.

Hi there!
Can you please tell me what a paper bag album is? I've seen them mentioned a few times on here, but I don't know what they are!!
For the OP, I agree with everything everyone else has said so far. The only thing I would add is making sure you have places or containers to put everything away in when you're not using them!! I kind of got ahead of myself buying more before I had put everything away (oops!!) and now I'm trying REALLY hard to find places for it all!!

Hope that helps!
Of course I can share with you. If you lived close to me I'd invite you over to make one! There are various ways to make them but the basics is this. You get lunch size paper bags - they also come in white & maybe other colors? I use between 3 & 5 for one album, fold them in half. You can stack them & fold them all in half as a group or fold each one in half and stack them after folding (I usually do it the second way). For binding you can staple them together, punch holes & use ribbon or eyelets - haven't tried that one yet - or anything you could think of really. From there you just scrap each "page", I do some kind of tag or small page in each pocket that is created by folding the bags - the top opening of the bag becomes a pocket.
When I've done mine I chose a themed sticker sheet and then use coordinating card stock and/or patterned paper. So far all of my paper bag albums have been gifts but I've received one as a gift too & they're fun. On the tags or "pages" that I put in the pockets I use ribbon or make a pull tab out of card stock, some sticker sheets have come with sticker tabs too. Now that I've gotten into stamping it would be fun to use some of my stamps to create a themed album.
I hope I've explained it clearly, if not I'm sure you could google "paper bag album" and find pictures and/or tutorials.
You NEED it all! You are going to love the Big Shot. I agree with the basic items listed, but would look for some of them on sale in other places. My best suggestion is to get SU papers. I absolutely love the coordinating card stock and designer paper. For me it makes paper crafting so much easier and it steps your project up a notch. Good Luck and have fun.
One thing that I don't think has been mentioned...their grid paper pad. It is a nice surface to stamp on, write down measurements, figure out card layouts, center items, test marker colors, etc. I bought a pad last fall, split it with my mom, and still have probably 40 sheets left.
