Any thoughts on the new catalog? I was surprised to see that there would be 2 catalogs a year now? I do like the new "in colors" (especially the hydrangea blue), and a couple of the DSPs. Other than that, there's really nothing I want or need. But I already have plenty....
I agree- seeing how things are used goes a long way! I'm pretty saturated with stamps, but love SU cardstock, and their DSP. The balloon dies are also tempting...
I like the Winnie the Pooh suite but that's about it.
Even so, I am not really as tempted as I have been in the past.
I do like the Hydrangea Blue color but I am not buying any more stamp pads at the new SU price point. Even with 25% off demonstrator discount, they are too expensive.

I refuse to pay $14 for an ink pad. I bought refills and blank spots and will make my own.

14$? Yikes! I thought 7$ or 8$ for Oxides was expensive. Glad I don't use much of SU things.
The $14 is for the new style stamp pads that SU will be introducing in full next year. The only ones currently at the $14 price point are the newest in-colors. The new inkpads are bigger and have a magnetic lid which will be great for people with arthritis/mobility issues. I will be making the investment of replacing all of mine (probably over a couple of years) with the new style because I do have pretty bad arthritis in my hands.

The catalogues have been disappointing for me. There isn't anything much that excites me. I am interested in the Shimmer Brushes, but I need to see them in action before purchasing. I'm strongly attracted to the Hydrangea Hue ink pad, but I'm looking at other ink options these days. I really like the magnetic ink pad idea, but they are selling for $20.00 in Canada. Ouch!
I tried uninked Stampin spots with re-inker, but I am not happy with the results. For me, I found the ink did not last, and I have re-inked twice in the last 3 months. I have no complaints with the pre-inked Stampin Spots, but the blank ones for me haven't worked out. I have the cases stored in a sealed container, so the ink shouldn't be evaporating that quickly when I've barely used them.
I don't know when I've bought an ink pad. I have a lot of them, but rarely use them. I just color the stamp with a pen. So I'm sure I'll get the in color pens, but not any ink pads.

Except Stampin Up discontinued the markers. Don't use a blend to color stamps. I have forgotten why but it somehow ruins the stamp. Especially photopolymer, which is all Stampin Up sells right now.
Tick. Tock.
You know what? I didn't even notice that!I thought I saw in color markers. I'll make do with what i've got. can't spend that kind of money on an ink pad. Thanks for the tip. Have never used a blender on a stamp, thankfully!

I have found that a re-inkingn lasts longer if I put reinker on the sides of the spot as well as on the top.

My understanding is that alcohol markers will cause your stamps to deteriorate.

Stampin Up still sells the blender pens. Those work with ink to form a substitute marker, not as good as the real (and now discontinued) thing, but better than nothing. You'll find you waste a bit of the blender solution when you change colours though.

You will ruin your stamps pretty quickly using alcohol inks on red rubber or, worse, photopolymer. Apparently it deteriorates the material. I was at a workshop where someone colored on a stamp with a blend. Let's just say the demonstrator was NOT HAPPY!

You misunderstood me Louie. I'm referring to the blender pens which work with the classic ink, not the alcohol blender pens. I mean these https://www.stampinup.nz/products/blender-pens product 102845 (New Zealand link supplied but obviously there's one for each market). TBH I'm surprised SU still carries these, I thought they had gone over completely to alcohol pen colouring with the retirement of the marker sets.
I wouldn't put alcohol ink anywhere near my stamps.

I use the SU blender pens with the watercolor pencils. Even when they dry out, I just dip the tip in a dish of water and continue on.
Kathy, I agree with you. There is more on the online exclusives that interest me than in the 3 month catalog. I guess that is their goal - do away with the physical catalog and go to online shopping only.

You can color the watercolor pencils with the Wink of Stella pen. I noticed they have sparkle pens for all of the in-colors. Are they coloring stamped images with these are using them to just add shimmer?

I wish they'd do away with the online exclusives and keep the catalog. Too many locations to keep track of and several ladies in our group do not do Internet stuff.

I agree. I like seeing a physical copy in my hands. Sometimes online images just don't do justice.
Lisa, I don't know anything about the sparkle pens.

I prefer spectrum noir clear sparkle pens. Then you don't need so many colors. Just color the color you want and add the clear and you get sparkly shimmer!
