Gracey's Girl, lots of us have our catalogues because our demos either gave them to us or kindly had them shipped. So maybe you can get one in your hands.
I agree with your Canadian pricing thoughts; the shipping is very high on top of higher prices anyway.
And the demo's DON'T like when someone posts a link... they rightly feel that they should have the perk of being the first to see. But it seems to be impossible to avoid the excitement and when someone leaks a link, we can't help but look.

Wish I had a Demo. I've tried calling about six in the area and they are all hobby demos and don't order catalogs to sell. I'm assuming I'll be able to order one from SU come June 1st.
I got home and Dh says - you have a package - wooohooo! My catty had arrived. LOL
I grabbed it, changed into jammies and hit the bed. he came in later and said - what did you get - the new Stampin Up catty - Well, I'll see you next week - and with that he left the room. LOL
I really only have about 5 stamp sets marked as must have's, with tons of paper etc.
But I only went through it one time and really in a rush. LOL
I do have it with me today, to go back through.
I agree with you--I like some of the new stamp sets, but for me, the must haves are a few of the papers and lots and lots of the new tools.
Actually a few of the stamp sets on my list are ones that have been in the catalog before, but I just noticed them because of the samples shown in the new book! I am sure my list will grow once people can order all the sets and start posting their ideas in the gallery. That always makes me see stamp sets in a new light.

Hope you are able to find a demo to work with--that's too bad. Mine is awesome, and delivered catalogs to us on Mother's Day She's not just someone to order from, but someone who has become a friend and a great source of inspiration!
Here's hoping there's someone in your area like that too!

You've used the Find a Demonstrator link?
Check out the demonstrator websites for ones that list events.
Although it's great to have a demo in your area so that you can go to classes, long distance can work as well.
You should be able to find somebody near you. If not, you REALLY need to sign up so that you can sell to all the people in your area like you, who want a demo! Think of it as a business opportunity!

I'm not a demo but received my catalogue in the mail from my demo. I have never met her or talked with her either. We email back and forth, I order from her website. There are many demos who do this. If there are blogs that you enjoy visiting for inspiration they usually have a link to order the catalogue. My demo sends a free catalogue if you order X amount of product each year from her so I never buy one because I easily meet that amount.
I just have to decide which sets are most important since I can't buy them all right now (sadly)
I guess this thread was started by a non- demo? I was wondering why a moderator does not take this thread to a demo only site.
I guess I am partial speaking a person who was unable to see the new catty before the link was taken down and I am a bit jealous of the fact that some have already seen it.
My views are already known on this and forgive me if I offend anyone. The fact that it is top secret in my opinion is just for the demo's and I guess if I was a demo I would want some perks. However, if the reason is so that demo's loose sales I for one know that it would not change how I spend my money. As a long time buyer of SU products I would never spend before the new catty(I have a limited budget) because I know that I would want new product.
This is a slightly off -topic but I feel that as a Canadian if SU would adjust their prices to be more equitable to Canadians we would buy more know I would. Please SU listen up
The Gap/oldNavy already sells and ships to Canada with no increase in price there are other stores that do the same no increase in price (pottery barn) another example.
We now have Nordstroms who has now just leased a big retail space in Downtown Vancouver Canada and believe me if they were not priced for Canadians people would not be entering their store.
Bloomingdales has just leased with The Hudsons Bay a Canadian Icon store to fill some of their spaces BD will be in Vancouver Target is also moving in These Companies know a good thing when they see it. (As a history buff I want to scream the Americans are coming!)
All these Companies want to tap into a strong Canadian market. I guess this means the SU already makes enough money from Canada I may have just wasted my breath.
I will get off my soapbox- June 1 is right around the corner and even though I like to look I probably will not purchase until Christmas (maybe)
I believe the pricing issue has something to do with the cost of doing business in Canada as a direct sales entity rather than a standard retail entity. While Pottery Barn may charge you the same price, I do believe it would be adjusted for the exchange rate regardless. You are paying the American price, but in American dollars which would have to be exchanged for Canadian dollars?
Sales tax too...A large company with no retail outlets in Canada would not have to charge you sales tax. But a direct sales company technically has their retail outlets (its demonstrators) in Canada, so it has to charge you sales tax.
As for the rest of the price difference, there are costs involved in doing business in Canada that are passed on to the customers. What they are I do not know, but that is what SU! states. Looking at the prices for Pampered Chef compared to Pampered Chef Canada, I see a similar price difference, so I would have to assume that perhaps direct sales companies in general incur costs that regular retail shops doing business in Canada do not.
However, as Gail stated, the best way to let SU! know your feelings about the price difference would be to write to them. I don't know that they read this forum.
ok, I did have the marker so I tried to put this color comparison together for you. Rose Romance is close to Primrose petals but Primrose is a slightly warmer color... maybe more pinkish then purplish of the Rose Romance. Hopefully you can see from the picture.

I figured the reason it's "top secret" is to give the demos a chance to order things so that they would have them for the first party of the new catalog release. I mean, if everyone got them at the same time, the demos would not have an opportunity to prepare and have new products/colors on hand. Just a thought, I could be wrong.
I rec'd my catalog in the mail yesterday and have started making my wish list. I, too, have seen things that I did not notice in past catalogs that I now have on my list! I think my favorite so far is the peacock in the World Treasures set on page 98...that's one that I will definitely be picking up

There is one more factor involved in this issue. And that is UPS. They have an "Entry Preparation Charge" that they add to all shipments to and from Canada. It is a substantial fee, and SU! may have adjusted prices of their product instead of showing this fee as a separate fee on all orders. I know I would be upset if I ordered something for 150.00, paid 15.00 shipping then had to pay a 29.00 entry preparation charge as well.
There is only one way to get around this charge, as far as I can see...They would need to have an entire distribution center in Canada. Still not sure if that would take care of all of the difference, but I am aware of some businesses that do just that.

LOL! That's about the truth. I made the mistake of giving the new catalogs out to my club ladies last night before we started the projects. I could barely get them to stamp after that!!

I do not want to always come across as a complainer. SU may have some real reasons for maintaining their high prices in Canada It is really unfortunate because our dollar is almost always at the same level as the US or even higher and yet we still pay as if our dollar is low.
SU has good product and that is why I still will sometimes buy from them. I will not however buy as much as I use to
There is one company(stamping) that I bought from that I paid the same price as US consumers, in fact I think it was when the Canadian dollar was slightly higher than the US and with shipping I ended up paying about the same as if I had walked into the store.
Stampin Up has a head office in Canada It is in Calgary Alberta. I do believe although I am not sure that the product gets shipped from there?? I do know that when I shop online from the Gap I talk with someone from California but the product is shipped from Ontario Canada and the prices are the same as the US prices.
Anyway, I am not a business person so there may be some things that I just do not know about this issue.

SU! has the Canadian head office in Calgary, but it's just that ... an office.
All our product ships from the States.
I really can't see why things being leaked out early is such a big issue... yes the demo's get this as a perk but they also get the perk of ordering some of the items early to play with so they can make up examples plus they get other perks on how well they do as a demo so really I don't see leaking out a the catti early as being a negative... to me all it does is get more people talking about what's coming up and then people will be placing the orders soon as they can and then SU sales go up and everyone is happy!!
All a bit of harmless free adverising for SU.. if I was a demo I don't think I would be cross at it being out early.
I don't know why it has to be the us and them... lets face it we all like the products so why can't we all just be happy and get along?!
Yes I understand Su has rules and someone broke them but that is life...
I am lucky that my demo gave me my catti early and have to say I am disappointed with a lot of things... Just for me it's the worst one in a long while and I have been buying for a long time... i'm hoping the seasonal one makes up for it or I might have to shop elsewhere.
waiting for my catty.....I hope I get it before June 1st. I ordered from a demo whose blog I admire and have yet to hear if the catty is on it's way or if she's waiting until June 1st to mail them out.
I do not think those three sets were available for the demonstrators to preorder, so we will have to wait a little bit longer before we see more. Those sets caught my eye as well!

As demos we can only order a FEW sets before the catalog goes live...not everything. Postage due should have a gallery here I think as it's a hostess item but I don't know if many purchased them since we have to pay full price!

Thanks. If I happen to see any of these on blogs I'll let you know.

Not yet, thats always the first place I look.
I got some mini library clips in the mail today ........... oh my gosh!!!! They are so cute! I saw the dimensions online but I still wasn't expecting them to be this tiny. I can't wait to make a card. I'm going to copy this really cute card I saw somewhere. I'm sure you've seen it. It has layers with the cork board first, then the notepaper stamped on kraft, then the lable punch with "just a note" stamped on it. With a tiny clip holding it all together. So cute!

Hmmm, maybe they are only on the demo side for now...that might be it. Peeks of the few things we could order are showing up on blogs though...and some stuff that the people that got to go to Disney got. Not much longer will we can all order everything!!!!
I don't have any of the little clips....which is surprising since my room looks like I have one of everything, lol! They do look cute!

I tend to agree that it is not the end of the world...more like becoming the hard and fast rule that some cat will beat another cat to the canary, but this is very serious business to some. Many demos pride themselves in keeping with the "spirit" of SU! demoship. I personally don't take myself that seriously as a hobbyist (for the 2nd time), but I can see how the rule followers get their feathers a little bent over the rule breakers. Stampin' UP! has to have rules and guidelines and then each demo has to personally decide whether or not they can operate within them. Leaks don't bother me, if you have creative edge...you have it. It seems against the creed of crafting to harbor resentments toward demos who capitalize on the benefits of being a demo. A huge part of success in this is aggressive practices. Life is not a level playing field. Just saying....

HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT!
Couple notes ... although they may not stem your disappointment:
- you can use the cookie stamp press on fondant
- the clock in clockworks has the correct numbers on the rubber stamp, the artwork in the catalogue is incorrect
And ... I like Stylin' Snowfolk ... it has more options than Cold Play. But then I didn't ever really like Cold Play, so that could just be me!
I never liked Cold Play because you had to make the snowman. It was a pain in the patoot. I used it for convention swaps that year. Blech. I was so done with that set! HA! I like how Stylin' Snowfolk has the snowman already built. You just have to accessorize. LOVE that.

I'm on your page re: your thought-process. Waiting until "X Date" for the arrival of the catty doesn't affect me negatively or positively, nor does it affect my purchasing negatively or positively. I understand marketing and they are trying to "build excitement" around the new catty...........um. Ok. I love Stampin Up products, and buy plenty of them!!---but the "can't see it until X date" is a bit silly. I have a few demos and they are already handing out the catty's. Seems to make sense.

We can hand out the physical copies whenever we wish (after we actually get them of course) but it's the DIGITAL version they don't want posted until it goes live. But since we are all independent demos we each decide how to best run our business so not all demos had them out at the same time and all have their reasoning.

It reminds me of a recent trip to (fill in the store name). The store opens (officially) in 5 or 7 minutes. The employees inside the store appear prepared to open, and are just standing around visiting. When they finally open the door at the specific, assigned time, they remind those who are entering "we open at X time."
Ok----but if you have buying customers, ready to spend money in your store, but you are going to make them wait until the exact specific time? That lacks common sense. In fact, myself (and, I'm sure many of you) have decided to leave the store. Lost money for the store. No brain surgery on that one.
The new catty issue seems to fall in that same category. You (general you) can prolong giving people catty's, even though you appear ready for the shoppers to buy. The problem? The shopper might not be there with their money to purchase when you (general you) decide to hand them a coveted catty.

I certainly understand the digit issue.
I don't see the big deal about the catalog coming out early either (nothing I love more than spending time with catalogs and making endless lists-- it's one of my favorite ways to kill time).
But I'm not sure I understand your analogy: if store X has posted hours, I wouldn't show up half an hour early and expect them to let me in the store.

Accessorize! I'm thinking the possibilities are near endless...
I'm on the fence about Road to Happiness...the celebrations are really no different from Loads of Love, except that bride & groom stamp has me hooked and the convertible is really cute! I'm thinking I don't need it, but I WANT IT!

Yeah, this one is puzzling to me too. Businesses have their policies in place for reasons. I would not expect a store to open early for me when I know what time they open. They open my place of employment early (I work in health care) because there are a couple of different departments within the building and I HATE when I come in EARLY and I already have patients there. I need some time to get ready for my day, kwim?
And I would be PO'd if I came to a store when it opened for some reason and I found that they let a bunch of people in early....

The point of the story was if you have shoppers ready to spend money, TAKE THEIR MONEY!!! LET THEM SHOP! (story said we showed up 5-7 min. earlier then the posted time, not 1/2 hour).
Same holds true for Stampin Up and the new catty. You have customers ready to spend money? TAKE THEIR MONEY! LET THEM SHOP! (They may take their money elsewhere if you have them "wait" until the "awaited time").
I got my new catalog yesterday. I love Halloween and was disappointed in the amount of Halloween stamps - not as many as there used to be. Otherwise it looked okay.
