I'm making my mom a personalized organization binder for all of her quilting ideas. She does a lot of wall hangings and always has random pieces of paper or photos torn from magazines and I'm trying to decorate a 3 ring binder that will help her keep all of her ideas together in one place. I'm including pockets, graph paper, regular white paper, plastic sleeves to tuck fabric or pattern ideas into and some other pockets as well as a beaded pen and a small notebook to tuck into her purse. What kind of categories would be helpful to label the pockets? Color Combinations, Layout Ideas, Inspirations, ???
Well, it sounds like you have all your bases covered. But one item she would probably really appreciate is the Quilters Fabric calculator. It's really a must have for quilters when trying to calculate yardage. Here's a link from Joanns. It's not on sale right now, but if you have a 40% off coupon then it's a pretty good deal. Quilters Fabric Calc .
If you can get one you could make a separate little pocket just for it.
Your mom is going to LOVE your gift.

Can you an an inexpensive keychain camera to it so she can snap some inspiration pictures? When I quilt it's difficult to put into words what inspires me. Sometimes the fabric tells me where to go, sometimes I am working from a color scheme inspiration. ALso a page to hold business cards of the local stores or other quilters she wants to keep handy.

Wow, what a nice gift! Maybe you could add some of those plastic trading card sheets, you know, the kind that hold ATCs? She could perhaps keep fabric swatches in them so that when she shops she can reference the colors for her quilt.
You could also type up little cards that she could attach her fabric swatches to that has the name of the shop she bought the fabric from, date, yardage, company, designer and the title of the line. Sometimes this is very helpful when she needs more (and also helpful to the person working in the shop trying to help her find that little bit more she needs! Another idea is a place for her to list her books that she owns, patterns and maybe a spot for names, addresses (directions) and phone numbers to her favorite quilt shops. I work in a quilt shop and these are all things that can be found in quilt journals, plus a few extras! Also, if she doesn't do her own quilting, gathering names of people in her area that do that (such as their business cards, can get those from local shops normally). It is a great gift idea!

In my binder I included the sheet protectors that hold 4 X 6 photos so that I can keep photos of previous quilts I have made. Sometimes I just need to look back at a previous quilt for color or design inspiration.
