Hello, everyone. I need to pick your wonderful creative brains about two things.
1. How about some great ideas for baby shower favors. The shower is next weekend, and I'm making everything all on my own. So, not too difficult please.
2. I am going to my husband's second cousin's wedding in a few weeks, and seem to be gift challenged. They are both older, not registered anywhere, not crafty, and the smart-engineer type. Any suggestions for a gift? They have both lived on their own for a while and have great jobs, so money isn't really a needed gift. Help please!
For the baby shower, what about a small brag book with the pages decorated, but no pics? You could do a page for first pic, first smile, first tooth, etc.
For the wedding gift, I just got married in Dec., and my DH's cousin got us a book called Night Light by Dr. James and Shirley Dobson. It is a devotional book for couples. It has Bible verses and has a page you read once a night together. It is for 26 weeks. I thought it was corny, cheesy etc., but I really like it. It asks questions like, "How have I shown my love for you this week?" It makes you both take a moment out of the day just for each other.
For baby shower favor ideas, what about a celo bag with some pastel color wraped chocolates (like hershy kisses) and a flower shaped floating candle. You can put it all in one of those mini pails from WalMart, wrap in a celo bag and have a baby themed topper or tag.
As for a wedding gift, what about a gift certificate to an art studio? They can select a piece of art that suits their tastes.
For shower favors, how about 2468 boxes stuffed with goodies. You could make the baby shoes or buy baby booties and stuff them with goodies.
At a recent shower I went to everyone brought a baby picture and attached it to a tag with gummy dots. The hostess then placed them on a tree branch tree.(Branches stuffed in a paint can with rocks) One of the games was to guess who was who. it was lots of fun. Everyone needs to bring a picture for it to work.
I did some of the marble magnets and bought the little fabric pouches from Wallmart in the cake/baby shower area. I filled the bag part way with glimmery shread. Easy and crafty!
What I did for my sister in-laws shower was buy the small yankee candles took off the yankee candle label. Printed out labels from my computer and put Misty's Shower and the date and stamped a Roses in Winter rose on the label. They came out beautiful. If you want to get a bit fancy you could put it into the small fancy bags they have.
For the wedding I made coasters with their name and date (had a stamp made) and did the roses in winter as a background.
Do you know if it is a boy or girl? I saw some Hershey candy bars re-wrapped/stamped in either pink or blue that were cute. If it was a boy, you cut a strategic piece out of the wrapper for "he". If it is a girl "she" is exposed from the word Her*she*y.
I would stick to tiles, as mentioned before. I went to a wedding closer to x-mas in which the bride and groom, both having been on their own requested "no gifts" but a favorite charity instead. I made them a floating image ornament (it was M&M shaped), with their names and wedding date, added a bit of snow and a window suction hook so that it could catch the sun. I am determined to buy extra of this shape ornament to have on hand (this coming Holiday season), as they make great going away gifts that can personalized with whatever the person likes.
My SIL did some really cute favors for a shower a while back. She made sour cream containers out of vellum, and filled them with pastel candies. You could stamp cute baby feet on the vellum. Tie them off with an organdy ribbon.
I did up a "First Year Journal" for another SIL who got married a few months ago. It was kind of based on the wedding paint can idea. I found a nice journal at a book store and put sayings on love and marriage throughout it. I also put their names and their wedding date in the front. I told them that this was for them to record their first year of marriage in... all the good times, the bad times, the "firsts" that they would have together. I love my SIL, but she can have kind of picky tastes, and she was floored by it. I may have to do this one again!
HTH,
Kim

Bag toppers done with wheel would be super fast for the favors. I ordered the little favor boxes from SU and stamped on them for my SIL's shower. Put a truffle in the middle and all the ladies were happy.

WEDDING I have a great idea I have done recently and it's CHEAP! Take thier wedding invitation and use it as your theme. Buy an 11x13 frame or larger(target 25.00!) Really pretty ones too! Cut off the front and Matt it with complimentary color. Do the same with the inside (info portion). Make a Matt (example piece of card stock 51/4x71/4) Use decorative corner punch so they can put in a wedding picture after they're married. Stamp the background paper with co-ordinating colors/stamps as thier invite. Then mount all the iems to it. VOILA! After I gave one away 5 people at my fiances work paid me to make them one. (for other weddings of course, as well as 2 anniversary) Good Luck
For the wedding gift, for the couples I know who have everything or a second marriage, etc. I have made a simple anniversary scrapbook that I pre-made with simple pages. It started with a letter from me inside the cover explaining it was an anniversary book. They were to place a picture from their wedding on the first page and then each two page spread from there on was labeled with "First Anniversary", "Second Anniversary", etc. In the letter I told them to take a picture of themselves on each anniversary and write how they celebrated or maybe write a note to each other. I have used their wedding colors sometimes, but most of the time stayed pretty neutral. It really doesn't take very long (unless you like to do a lot of embellishing, but remember they kind of couple you are making it for) and it has seemed to be appreciated.
