I have been wanting to buy a background stamp or two, and have just been given a shopping spree for my birthday! ($115CDN! Woohoo! I get to pick it now at my SILs workshop, but have to wait till my bday in June to get it!!!:( )
So, I'm torn between Linen and Canvas. They're so similar, but different enough...I don't know which I would use more. What do you like better?
I'm also tempted to get French Script....do you get a lot of use out of this???
Are there other backgrounds that you think I might get more use out of???
I have canvas and love it. I use it all the time. But I am considering getting linen also because, although they are similar, linen is much more subtle than canvas. There have been many times that I used canvas and, when I looked at the finished card, I wished that I had linen because it would have been better. I'm not saying that linen is better than canvas or that you would use it more -- just saying that it does give a card a different look.
I also have print pattern and french script -- love them both and use them often. I have a retired stamp that looks like flowery lace(similar to fine lace) - I use that often also. I much prefer using background stamps than trying to find the perfect patterned paper.
I have Weathered - though I'd use it all the time and I don't. Same with word by word.
My next purchase will be paisley. or linen .. although I really like well-worn words also...
Love Linen, use canvas often, love print pattern, French Script is awesome. Floral is beautiful too. I love backgrounds and have a ton of SU backgrounds and also a lot of the Cornish Heritage Farms backgrounders. I get these mounted on cling foam and they work great, no wood block needed to stamp them! Plus they are much cheaper at 7.99 for the backgrounder.

I have Print Pattern, Floral, and Paisley - and use them all pretty regularly (although I would say Floral and Paisley give you a pretty similar "look" with different designs). I, too, am torn between Canvas and Linen as my next purchase. I think I'm going to go with Linen, though - I like the subtlety of it.
I think Print Pattern is a must have. I prefer Linen over Canvas, and I love French Script. Those are the ones I always go to the most. Have fun on your shopping spree!
I generally choose linen over canvas. I just like the more subtle look of it. I agree that Print Pattern is another "must". I just ordered Paisley after seeing it used in so many great cards here on SCS, too. Enjoy your shopping spree!
I use Linen a little more than Canvas. I like Floral (gives many different looks depending on colors of cardstock/ink used), French Script and Weathered a lot too. Linen would be my first choice. Lots of fun layering backgrounds.

Although I love canvas, I prefer linen most of the time. It looks as though it's more the paper than a stamped background image. Depends on the look you're going for... more subtle (linen), or more pronounced (canvas) and which type you'd use more often.
I don't have French script, but I would love to have it! And I'd also love Floral.

i would like to expand my BG collection. would like to have crosshatch, flannel plaid and fontastic.

I have just about all of these, my favorites are Canvas, French Script and the Lace one. I can't remember it's full name. I love the Print Pattern too. I also have the Cheesecloth one and really like it but I have rarely used this BG stamp.\\
I too was wondering about canvas vs linen. Then I came across this awesome card by JanTinks that shows you can get a softer look with the canvas stamp. Here's the card Gallery at Splitcoaststampers
Can you stand one more opinion? I have wanted Paisley for a long time and finally broke down and bought it. Love it. Can't wait to use it more. I have a bunch including Floral, Print Pattern, Linen, Canvas, Weatheed, Crosshatch, and some retired ones. I use them all from time to time so I think which everyone you do decide on you will find a lot of use for. French script, On the Spot, Cheese Cloth and Flannel Plaid are on my wish list but I will try to wait it out as I have so many now. I would go for Linen first before you order Canvas.
I vote for canvas iover linen. I thinkthat canvas is more versatile. You can create a soft look with it by stamping off first. Versamark is also a good ink to use with canvas for dark paper. My second BG stamp choice is paisley. It can be dressed up to express beauty, you can use it to be "cutesy", whimsey etc. Third choice? Definitely Print pattern - can us it for both genders, adults, kids, whatever!!!
