Red face My weekend project...lessons learned...

After reading another SCSers little problem with one of her stamps, I decided that I needed to check all my stamps(I only have about 50 sets). I've bought my stamps thru-out the year, but most I have never used - for some reason, I never figured out that I also need paper & ink  .

Plus, one of my pet peeves at my demos stamp camps is that she doesn't have an image book, where we can look thru to see what each set has (she has many retired sets - which I think is a real plus for stamp camps).

So, yesterday, I just sat down & used every one of my stamps, I used some old computer paper (stuff that had the holes on the sides) & stamped one set per page. I can tell you that my arm still hurts & I have a knot in my back - but that's mostly because I am rather AR when it comes to cleaning my stamps...

Sadly, my Hope is... set is defective, there is a dip at the top of the heart so that it will not stamp the ribbon correctly. I am kicking myself for not using my sets sooner, so that I could have gotten a replacement...

You might try stamping it with a sheet of craft foam under your paper.. sometimes that extra cushion helps... like it does when using large background stam9s. Or you might try laying your stamp on the table.. rubber side up.. placing your paper on top.. and rubbing the paper with your finger tips.

Another possibily... if it isn't visibly a flaw in the rubber... it could be a dip in your wood mount. I found this to be the case with a large background stamp I had purchased (non-SU!) and simply remounted it.

It is always disappointing to have a defective stamp :( Hoping one of these suggestions will help... or maybe someone else has additional ideas?

Thanks for the ideas. I'll have to check on the rubber side up, but unfortuately it is a defect in the rubber. There is a thin dip, like a ridge. I'm thinking I might be able to sand the rubber around it down, but I don't know, that might be bad for the stamp, well, I mainly got the set for the words anyway & they're fine...

IIRC, someone mentioned using an regular pink eraser (the Pink Pearl school type or the one on the end of a pencil) to "fix" any defects. If necessary, then try the super-super-fine sandpaper to avoid ruining the stamp...

Hope this helps and thanks for the PSA reminder--I should get all of my stamps set up and stamped as well!

To save yourself from stamping images in the future for your references, just scan the labels before you mount them. When someone mentioned it to me, I thought now why didn't I think of that? Of course it won't tell you if you have a defect or not, but sure gives you a quick reference with the set name already on it.

Sharon,

Unfortunately, that is what I had started doing originally- to attach to the top of my stamps container. Then I would mount my stamps & not use them... so I never checked them for defects. Plus, it really is nice to play with my stamps -even if I don't have the other supplies I need for making a card...

Monika are you talking about the set with the awareness ribbon and one stamp says Hope another is a Helen Keller quote and the fourth is a courage verse? Let me know if I'm right before I go on.
