When you make monogram cards for gifts, do you use the first initial or last initial? If you use monogrammed cards for yourself, do you use first initial or last? I'm about to make some for my 7 yr old dd so will use her first initial but I was thinking about making others for gifts for friends and teachers.
I use both. If I am making them for myself and they are notes that I am sending out from just me, I will use the ones that have my first initial on them but if they are notes that I am sending from me and my husband then I will used the ones I have made with our last initial. When I make them for my nieces I always used their first initials.
I've seen this question a lot. I think most of the time I would put the person's first name initial, unless maybe it was a real formal card, then put their last name initial. Maybe in the "olden" days it was more proper to use the last name, but since most everything is more casual these days I would think the initial for the first name would be fine.
I think it depends on what it is for. Formal, I say last initial. Informal, I say first initial. Like you would use the last initial for wedding/bridal stuff but maybe the first initial for something else.
I agree with using the first initial, unless maybe it's for a bride and is more formal. We are living in a more casual time.
I've made monogramed notecard sets for friends and relatives and usually use their first initial.
Just wanted to second this, however if you are giving as a gift to a professional, such as a teacher then last name would be best.
Also if the person has a short first name you can always put that along side the initial in JustRiteStampers - here is my example I got the idea off Lauren Meader's blog.
Personally I've done both but the deciding factor for me was the font in which I was going to use. Sometimes one letter is prettier than the other. Or I'll mix sets using both first and last.

I believe that for a woman you use her first inital and for a man, you use the last initial. If I were making them for a teacher though, I would use the last initial.
LOL, love the age-old debate on this one. I posted it about a year or two ago and got pretty much the same consensus. For gals I really do like the first initial!
