Over the last several weeks, I've noticed an unusual number of clearance sales at Michaels. I wonder if they might be closing some of their stores. I shop there mostly for their heavy weight cardstock and hope they will continue to sell that.

Well right now I have been seeing a lot of summer warehouse clearance sales at the stamp mfgs which I assume to is clear out and make room for the fall and big Christmas product launches.
Let's hope that is what is happening at the box stores too.🤞

The store near me has nothing….NOTHING worth going into the store for. (Moorestown NJ). It’s become nothing but an online order pickup station. What is in the store is junk decor.

** In North Phoenix it's pretty much the same situation for the 3 Michael's I shop ---many items on the 70% clearance, and what little is left is, well, let's just say not great quality or design... I won't be surprised if they close the doors before the year is out.
I was in a Joann's last week (supposedly the busiest one in Wisconsin) and there were so many empty slots for product and many things on sale or clearance. I asked an employee if they were getting ready to close the store and she told me that Joann's had been purchased by a new company and she had received 2 letters saying that they were not closing the store. Joann's was sending the stores all the stuff out of the warehouses apparently trying to get rid of it before the new company comes in. They had received Halloween merchandise a month or two ago already which surprised her. The letters said that the new owner would be bringing in some different/new merchandise. So, we will see.

I just read that Joann's filed for bankruptcy in March 2024. Joann is owned by private equity investment firm Leonard Green & Partners (LGP), which is headquartered in Los Angeles, California. It was founded by Leonard I. Green on January 7, 1989.Mar 18, 2024

Hello,
I think the retailers often hold clearance events for various reasons. To ensure you can still purchase heavy weight cardstock, consider stocking up now or checking their online store for availability.
We have a new (and only) Michael's in my town. It's big and while not overflowing with merchandise, it is well stocked. It's also nice and brightly lit through and through.
Michaels has had major clearance sales every summer for many years in response to new items arriving from manufacturers and in preparation for the usual high volume of holiday merchandise coming soon. It often feels like they're going out of business, but they're not really -- at least they haven't in years past.
Stamping seems to be taking a hit in the chain craft stores. We only have Hobby Lobby in my city, and they've really reduced their stamping offerings lately.
I wonder if it's because there are so many online stamping stores that not enough customers are shopping in those stores (though still shopping in dedicated stamping/papercraft shops).
HL is also all about their own brands--it's harder to find brand-name items, which are better quality. They just carry more & more home decor.
I'm not a fan of HL, so I avoid going there as much as possible.
