BUGGAINOK.......Yes those are the ones and you're right they are pricey but I don't use them that often for mailing (special occasion only) and try to use a 50% coupon on them. The 99 cent store has in the past had some also but the out side is red, gold, silver or green foil and not as sturdy for mailing I would think.
Those look really good, Marge. And the price is right!
I like the look of those. With a minimum purchase (25 pieces), the cheapest shipping method to me in Connecticut brings the price to about 51 per piece. I may try some of those.

Be sure to read the fine print. When I looked, I realized that the boxes in the picture are only box "bottoms" and you need to get acrylic sleeves or tops to go with them.

Oh geez...*#>!&@! I'm glad one of us is thinking straight. Thank you, Bugga, for showing me the error of my ways!

Remember these are just the box base, and you need a top, sold separately, to make a complete box. From what I can see, the tops only come in clear, so may not be sturdy enough for mailing.

I mail 90% of the cards I make, and grow sick of being creatively forced to make cards flat enough to mail first class letter. So, I bought a big old box of bubble mailers (yes, they do look like office products). I fight this when I have time by decorating the mailer. I don't like paying so much more to send as a package, but at least they don't yet force us to send priority! lol Anyway, I've been following this fascinating thread and halfway down it, found myself softening about the mailers. But then, reading on, see how difficult it is to make a box (of which, are they going to be adequate/approved for mailing?), well, I'm now all the way back to just being glad I can decorate my bubble mailers and get my cards safely to where they are addressed! lol
I still want to attempt a box some day with my Scor-Pal+Envi (and then there are the purple Crafters Companion Enveloper and Top Score in the closet, never used), but it will be one I give in person (or mailed in a bubble mailer, lol).
I have found this site to be very useful for boxes. Enter the dimensions you want (in either mm or inches), click and away you go.
If you were to mail a box, though, I'm thinking you would want to make at least a sleeve for inside out of chipboard, otherwise the box would crush. of course you could make the whole box out of chip board and cover or paint it.
I'm definitely going to look into making some of those box envelopes but in the meant time. I was able to get a lot of hard, square plastic sheets that are used between layers of wax tarts on display in candle stores and where ever one sells candles. I usually have to cut an inch off one end and that fit nicely in an A2 envelope. I don't have an endless supply but for people close to me, I usually ask them to save them for me. If you can find a source, they might be kind enough to put them aside for you.
