SCS has convinced me of my need for Jumbo Wheels, so I'm going to order Cool and Flitting By. I'll also get an empty cartridge. Since wheels are uncharted territory for me, I have some basic questions.
How do you clean the cartridges when the ink is gone? If I want to change the color of ink before the cartridge is empty, can I put the ink from the cartridge back into the refill bottle? Do the 2 and 3-cell cartridges give the wheel a look similar to a spectrum pad?
Answers to these questions or any advice on jumbo wheels is welcomed!

Great choices on your wheel selections. Personally, I have never changed the color in my cartridges. I chose a color that I thought I would use the most and bought the cartridge and reinker. You can also roll your wheel across an ink pad then roll onto your cardstock. Works great! Yes, a two or three cell cartridge will give you a spectrum pad effect. HTH!

1. I wouldn't think of an empty cartridge as something you clean. It's more for getting a color that is not offered in the jumbo size.
2. No, you can't put the ink back in the reinker bottle.
3. Yes the 2 and 3 cells would do that, although I have never tried it. I would be afraid they would run together too much.
4. I recommend you get a pre-inked cart. unless there is a specific reason you are ordering the empty one.
5. Remember you can also use your ink pads when using wheels. The only catch is that they are best used this way with cards, since the ink will only last for one revolution of the wheel.
You cannot easily change colors. Once the ink is in, it is very hard to get it out. You would have to soak and rinse a long time. When they do become dry, it is best to reink with the same color. (I have tried to adapt non SU cartridges to SU colors - not easy). I recommend getting a cartridge for each color that you want. If you have a lot of ink refills, you may wish to keep a blank cartridge on hand for that time when you just must have a certain color. Yes the 2, 3 cell cartridges give a spectrum type look, but they are not available in the jumbo size.

Inside the cartridge is a fabric like wheel that is soaked with ink. That is what inks your wheel and why it would be difficult to change the color and almost impossible to squeeze the ink out of it.
Thank you, Thank you!! Even though I'm a demo and got a regular wheel in my kit, I've only played with it to figure out how to put the cartridge in and take it out. So your answers have helped me tremendously.
In my catalog on p. 228, it lists an uninked jumbo cartridge for $6.95, but there is no picture of it. However, after reading the answers so far, I probably won't get it.
Or should I...for Versamark? I've read posts about using Versamark for wheeling backgrounds. Would that be the Versamark Pad refill on p. 226,
used with an empty cartridge?

That's a great tip about the ziplocs! I'm going to do that in the morning. I bought an empty jumbo cart. and a garden green refill to go with the jumbo holly wheel at Christmas time. I looooove how it looks. I just have to re-ink it every time I use it (no big deal).
You guys are sooo lucky! The stinky grocery store that is practically a monopoly here no longer sells them. Last time I checked Wal-Mart I didn't see any. Those snack-size bags are the best for all kinds of stuff!!
Another hint if you want a color not available is to see what can be added to.
For example i am DYING for a pink passion jumbo roller. I bought the Pretty in Pink one and I am going to use my Pink Passion reinker to juice it up to hot pink. I thought since it has a pink base it will be easier to get Passion Pink than an uninked one.
I did this when I needed a pink passion one and ordered Pretty in Pink and had 2-I made one a Pink Passion one with reinkers. Worked fine and with less of the re-inker than buying a blank one
Not a perfect system, but it will do while I wait for more colors of the jumbo cartridges

Stampin' Michi,
WalMart sells their own brand of the snack size bags. Personally don't think that they work as well. Mainly just that the plastic for the bags are not as thick as Gl@d or Zipl*ck.
I LOVE my wheels and inks. I'm working on getting all of the cartridges. I know that I can roll the wheels across the regular pads, but they just don't ink for that far. Although I do use the craft ink on my cards and scrappin' pages with the wheels. Hope that someday SU! will sell craft ink in the wheel cartridges. Keepin' my fingers crossed!
Also, another tip, the jumbo wheel is almost the perfect size when wheeling Bag-A-Lopes with the legal size envie! Such a quick, but cute WOW!!! at a workshop!
Have fun with your new purchases! You'll be hooked for sure! (yeah, like SU! carries ANYTHING that I'm NOT hooked on!!! )
Has anyone ever thought of doing this??? I had an extra plastic case... one of the divided ones. I can't remember what came in it, but it is one like they put the alphabets in. My regular sized ink cartridges fit perfectly in it! I'm not sure what size it is, but it will hold 18 cartridges and it closes fine. It keeps them from drying out and it stores them all in one place. Not good for jumbo cartridges... but it works perfectly for the little ones.
