Default Inking up wheels

Just wondering if anyone has tried inking up their jumbo wheels using spots? Is it a lot of work? I just cant afford to buy all the different colours in cartridges and I only have spots (besides black and brown, I have full pads in those).

It's not impossible.........but I think it would be worth your while to get the cartridge. I guess it depends on how many times your rolling it and if your using classic ink, you'll need to "huff" to refresh the ink you already put on there. OR maybe someone else does this and has a great technique, I just can't think of one.

I haven't tried the spots, but my demo taught me a trick with reinkers. You just dot an inkpad size of felt with reinkers, fairly close together but not on top of each other, I'd say about 10 times is enough. Then you roll the wheel over it. I test on scrap paper to see how well it's inking before I use it on the cs. You can also use a couple different colors of reinkers, just have to make sure they're lined up on the felt. I hope this makes sense, it sounded easier to explain in my head!

You could also unmount the wheel and ink with spots as you would any flat stamp. I've been thinking about this option, and this would change the nature of the stamped image quite a bit (I totally would not be into trying to line up a flat stamp end to end) but if you weren't really going to use it to make long images to begin with this is an option.

works with regular sized pads but think it would take too long with the spot and may be blotchy

I have not tried with spots... I would imagine it would be time consuming. Have you thought about maybe getting the versasmark cartridge for your wheel? I mean you will get your image just not in color.. but you can emboss it in the color that you need. NOt sure if that helps.

Wink

If you ink a wheel on a regular size pad, one roll will take you across the card. You could stamp the image in the black, that you already have. Then, use a white crayon to highlight areas, say around the swirls, flowers, whatever. Then, take a sponge, use your spots, and sponge on color. You could cover the first section in one color, the next in another, and create a rainbow effect. Between the black design, the crayon resist, and the color, you can create a nice effect.

Hedgie, I like that idea ... thank you!!!! And thanks to everyone else for replying. I'll also have to work on getting a few ink cartridges here and there ... I havent tried wheels yet and I'm excited to try something new! I just cant resist "Farmyard" any longer and I thought I better get it just in case they retire it. I think its such a "happy" wheel!

I also use my big pads to ink up the wheels, but I do have the white and black cartridges. The black one is great because you can use it for all of the line image wheels and color them in. HTH
