I saw one line of conversation going on this, but it was from a couple of weeks ago. I am wondering if there is anyone out there that says definately buy or don't buy the ink pad caddy. I am going to place an order in the next day or so, and I am really wavering on this item. I would love to have it, but I don't want to "waste" $60. My questions are does it spin better when it is full? Also, will this caddy travel well (I stamp on the go a lot), or will my ink pads fall out all of the time? This site it the BEST. It is nice to have a place where I can ask questions like this besides Stampin' Discuss on the demo web-site (I always feel bad because I know that that site is monitored). Thanks a lot.
I've heard some 'negative' things about the color caddy. My upline just got hers and she said she likes it. She said it's hard to turn, but it works good enough for what she wants. I don't think it's meant for travel, so I wouldn't count on it for that.
No, it doesn't turn better when it's full, and it's very wobbly. Some people have said that loosening the handle would help, but I haven't found that to be so. I'm disappointed in it, because I don't think it's a very well-designed or sturdy product. :( I have mostly the old style stamp pads, which aren't held too securely. It seems to hold the new pads pretty well, but I haven't tried to move it, so can't say for sure.
If I were you, I wouldn't order it unless you get a chance to see it first hand. I wish I had waited before ordering.

That is why I love mine!! It doesn't spin freely, but when I want to stamp out on the back deck while my 2 year old is playing I can just lift it easily by the handle and go! It holds the new pads extremely well, with no fear of them falling out. They kinda "click" into place.
The big fancy wood ones look really nice, but portability is more important to me. The stamp pads alone are quite heavy when you have all 48. I can't imagine adding a 15 lb caddy to it too....
Go for it! I love it!
I've got the color caddy and as everyone has said it doesn't turn real well on its own. So what I did was buy a cheap turn table/lazy susan type thing thats actually for your spices in your cupboard, Put that under the whole color caddy and it spins like a top!!! I love it now. I carry it in and out of my stamp room no problems. I don't know about like travel in a car or anything. I haven't had any stamp pads fall out just carrying it around.
I would say buy it but also plan on buying a lazy susan if you want it to spin freely. You can probably get a lazy susan at the local dollar store.
Just my 2cents worth!

I have one that I absolutely love! My upline's husband makes them and they are great. They hold all our pads and ink refills plus you can set some misc. items on top. I think they are around $80 but they are well worth it. They are made out of wood but has not been painted or anything. I left mine natural. It spinds very easily. If you are interested let me know and I can give you their email/and/ or telephone number. I'm not sure how much the shipping is. The person that makes them lives in CT. Carol
My girlfriends' DH makes a wooden one. I have one (will be getting a second one soon for all my craft ink pads) and well as most of my customers. We LOVE them. They are well worth the cost (somewhere btwn $75-$85). They hold 72 SU! ink, markers/blender pens/brushes, have 2 big drawers on the bottom and lots of storage on top. He stains them (if you want) and they are very sturdy and turn easily.
If interested send an email to [email protected]
You won't be disappointed!

Hi Carol, I would be interested in finding out more about your friends ink caddy. Would you mind e-mailing me their e-mail address. I live in N.Y. so I may be pretty close to them depending on where they live in CT. Thank you. My e-mail address is [email protected]
Thanks for the tips everybody. I guess that I can get it and then just pay the shipping to return it if I really don't like it. I will probably give it a try. What can I say.....I am a big time sucker.
My daughter bought me one for mother's day, before the SU ones came out. It holds all the new pads and you can order inserts so the old ones fit(but I just slipped in a piece of foam and they fit fine). It was one of the ones advertisied in the stamp magazines. It spins great and she even made me a bag to carry it in.
My wooden ink pad storage unit just arrived this week. I got it from: http://www.rubberstampstorage.com/stampinUpInkRack.htm
It's beautiful and now my little ink pads get to sleep in their ink pad condo tucked in next to their reinkers. I didn't want a swivel model as I want to be able to see all the colors in front of me as I make my selections.
If you are still in the decision making mode, here is the list I compiled while I was making my decision:
Funny this is on here today. I just got done emailing SU! about how dissatisfied I am with this product.
The thing is just not made to hold the weight of the ink pads and the refills. If you loosen the handle, the whole thing leans to one side and wobbles. If you tighten the handle it is much harder to turn. No matter what you do with that handle, since the plastic is so cheap, the bottom few rows of ink pads are getting squashed and it is wearing away the covers already!
The unit is a good idea, just poorly designed and also NOT worth the money they are asking. I would like it if it were offered to us as demonstrators for free or for a maximum price of $14.95! If you are wondering whether or not you want to buy it, save your money and use it for one of the higher quality caddy's listed from any of the sites listed above. I have other caddy's and love them. The only reason I bought this caddy was to show it to my customers and because SU! came up with something of our own! I was so happy about it...UNTIL I got it! What a let down!
Sorry, but I just don't see how this thing will make it much longer. Don't settle for second best ladies, it is not worth it. SU! has not made any effort to exchange it or refund my money either. It is VERY defective...and should be able to be returned due to that fact. I know that there are many more of you out there that feel the same as I do. Even many of you who say your are "happy with it" aren't terribly happy. Have you noticed that?

I think some people mentioned that they picked up turn tables at the dollar store. I also know that "organizing" sections of places like Target and Walmart also carry them, but of course, they might not be a "dollar" there!
