I have been a member here are SCS for sometime and enjoy participating here in challenges, etc. I have been reading about The Fan Club, can someone tell me what the perk to this extra membership is besides having access to the Design Teams galleries?
Please gals...give me all the downsides as well as the perks.
I love being a fan club member, but I really like uploading cards. I haven't felt like there are any downsides. I love the instant uploads and the fact that you can upload on Sundays. I work on weekdays and Sunday is really the day I have the most time to stamp.
A couple of other perks are monthly challenges and my favorite thing of all - Dare to Get Dirty. DTGD is a little like VSN, except it is longer, you can combine challenges, and (at least to me it seems like) it has even more camaraderie and sharing-the-love. if you are curious about DTGD, here is the link to this years information thread. HTH!
Until recently, I didn't know there was a paid subscription with additional privileges . I am going to join too . I certainly get a wealth of information here and a site like this costs money to maintain.
I would not be stamping on cards today if I had not found a link to this site on Becca's Amazing Paper Grace blog. I had never done any stamping on cards, but I stumbled onto her site looking for something else and fell in love with her work.
I don't care about the instant uploads, but I want to see the ideas from the Dirty Dozen members and support the site.
It is my understanding they are chosen as the Best of the Best
I am that rare breed who sees no reason to pay for additional perks.
the instant DL/ability to DL pics on Sundays is no big deal to me.
there are MORE than enough ways to be inspired by the free access galleries and the resources area.
in other words, i see no upside to subscribing. while I am sure that those who choose to pay are happy they do, it's not someting I feel is important to me.
I did utilize the free sneak peek of the DD galleries when it was offered for a short time and quite frankly was no more inspired/impressed by what was in there than I find every day posted by regular members.
I originally became a fan club member solely for the ability to upload on Sundays since I like to participate in the Featured Stamper Challenge on that day. I do like the instant uploads on other days too. I like SCS. I'm on it nearly every day. I get a lot of information and ideas from it. So for me, it's worth the $25 a year for the fee. That's less than 7 a day. Where else are you going to get that kind of value?
In all honesty, I pay as a way of saying "thank you". I get so much inspiration, have made some WONDERFUL cyber friends and there is just a wealth of information here. Even if I didn't get the instant uploads, or access to the DD gallery, I'd still pay. I feel I get more than my $$ worth
I think it's just a good way to support the site. Instant uploads and Dare to Get Dirty challenge week and the extra galleries are just icing on the cake for "doing the right thing", in my opinion... I didn't even know about the Fan Club for a while, but once I found out what it was and why it was, it just made sense to me to join. I don't subscribe to magazines any more because between SCS and blogs (many of which I find through posts here), there's no need to kill trees and clutter my space, so I guess that's my "financial tradeoff". Just my own ideas - everyone needs to do what works for them or fits with their philosophies and/or finanaces
Support..For all that Split Coast gives the lest I could do is be a paying member. I do it for no other reason. Just want to give back for all this site gives.

I love the instant upload aspects but I first took out a Fan Club subscription as a way of supporting the site - it takes a lot of work and a lot of infrastrcuture to run a site as big as this and do it as smoothly as we see it done. To me, a couple of dollars a month seems like a very small contribution to show appreciation for how much is provided here.
Like many others, I'm happy to subscribe to the Fan Club as a way of supporting the site. I could buy about three magazines for the same price, and get far more inspiration and help here. Sure, most of it is available free, which is wonderful for us all. But for me personally, I like to give back a little in return for all that I get. I like the instant uploads too . And playing along in the Dare to Get Dirty challenges...
Just giving a little bit back to SCS for thier Wonderful Service. Just supporting SCS for continued access to all inspiration and instant uploads don't hurt one bit

Besides instant uploads, Dirty Dozen gallery, Dare to Get Dirty challenges and supporting SCS... there is also access to dozens of templates, downloads and tutorials that are Fan Club only. Aren't y'all just the least bit curious, lol???
I love the extra templates and tutorials.
I joined originally as support to Daven but now that it is a big company that owns SCS I am not sure that holds water anymore. Someone can tell me why I am wrong
Hi
I have been 'using' SCS for about a year now. I don't know what I would do without it personally! I completely forgot about the paying member option till I was reading a recent post on 'favorite stamping magazines'! I decided to become a paying member today. I have gotten so much help, advice, ideas, etc. that I decided it was time to help out and support this awesome site!
While I am VERY THANKFUL that most of this site is free, I do think it would be a good idea to REMIND the folks that use this site, that it does cost money and time to produce and that if someone can afford to pay - it is a good idea to do so.
That being said, I am trying to figure out where to find the benefits, as mentioned above. Still can't find where one accesses the free templates, techniques etc. so any advice on how to do that would be appreciated.
Also, could someone explain what the "Dare to Get Dirty" is all about and how to access that too?
Thanks much. I think SCS is the best support and idea site out there and I am very thankful for it!

The techniques , templates and such are under "Resources"
Go to the very top of this page and on the right side you will see several sections which are links to areas such as the Gallery--Forums-RESOURCES-
Click on Resources and you will find a wealth of information on techniques. Many of the written tutorials also have a video.
I can't help much with the "Dare to Get Dirty" . Some one else will need to explain that

Yay! Glad you joined! Dare to Get Dirty (DTGD) is a set of challenges that are for Fan Club members only. They have lots of challenges and you have a long time to make them (about two weeks, maybe?). You can combine challenges and there is no time restriction (I like this because the 45min time limit for VSN is sometimes stressful to me.) It is held in the summer time, here is the link to the 2010 information thread about DTGD.
Man, I had the most awesome time this summer doing the DTGD challenges! It was wicked fun. I'm a member for many reasons but the main one is to support the site. I get more advice and info here than I could ever possibly pay back.
I joined not too long ago as a way of saying 'Thanks a million' for this great place which continues to be a wonderful part of my life. There is lots of inspiration in the Fan Club Gallery, templates and downloads, and challenges - I think it's fantastic and will definitely be renewing my subscription when it is due!
The one big downside for me is that when your subscription expires, you lose ALL access to the Fan Club galleries. I was disappointed to learn that I could no longer access the galleries from the years for which I paid for membership.
Before SCS went commercial (ads top and bottom of the page) I was happy to be a fan club member. Now, with all the $$ the ads bring in, I don't feel the same obligation. I'm OK with no access to the FC gallery, I'm OK with less-than-instant uploads (especially since I don't have a gallery ... lol!)

Now I am a member of the fan club...I know how to get to resources....but how to I get to the Fan Club only resources please?

Hi Michelle,
Go to the Forums pg. At the very top, you'll see 3 headings directly under Fan Club. Go to Patterns, Templates & How tos. Once there, you'll probably need to change your Display options. The default is 100 days so change it to Beginning. You'll see a bunch of templates, etc. There are also some FC only tutorials, but other than w/ the original DD gallery, I don't know where else they are kept. (I know there are some, cause I did a few in the fall of last year.)
I paid...mostly because one of the bloggers I follow was going to be a contributing....I never remembered to look at it! LOL! I find so many resources, tips and inspiriation in the regular forums. I think it would be great if they would give a one day or week trial membership so that folks can see what it really is all about.
I don't use any of the perks, but feel the $25/yr is worth it to help keep the site going.
I do wish they would ADD a CTMH gallery now that the site was sold and apparently doesn't have an SU tie.
~Cheers

Julie, Thank you for your detailed instructions to access the templates and tutorials for members only. I have been trying for days to figure that one out... now I 'get it'! Maybe your notes should be included on that page so that others too can figure it out. I am pretty good on computer stuff but many are not. Thanks & Blessings - Mary
I'm glad this question was asked, as I didn't know this existed!

I think the trial membership is a good idea, but since they don't I'm just going to take my chance and join.

Just for the record, anyone can upload on Sundays. I do it all the time. It's just that my image doesn't get approved and posted til Monday (and that's fine by me).
Question: Can members upload the "old" way without compressing the photo first?
Hi Vee -
The upload image size is the same for everyone - it's anything under 2048 x 2048 pixels - which is a huge image - 27 inches by 27 inches if you printed it out. So unless you're printing posters with your images or shooting for National Geographic, you're not gaining anything by storing 3 megapixel pictures, but they do take up a lot of server space, which is why there's a limit. You will get the same high resolution at a much smaller size.
There is no limit on the size of your gallery - just pixel width and height per image - we offer free unlimited storage for all members.
If you set your camera to capture images smaller than 3MP, you will not have to resize your photos before uploading.
I have been with SCS for 3 years + by now. At first I was not a fan club member. I just joined the fan club a few months ago. I don't regret it!
I really like the INSTANT uploads, especially when playing challenges!
I also like looking through the dirty dozen gallery and playing along with their challenges!
This is absolutely my FAVORITE web site on the internet and they do a great job of it, so I don't mind paying a little bit to support it and keep it running.
