Ok so I decided that I was going to make some gifts for ladies at work, and well I thought candles would be nice, so I went out and bought some candles, and tissue paper and sat down tonight to make them, my cousin, the expert stamper told me today to wrap the candle in wax or parchment paper before you melt on the tissue, this keeps things even and protects your little fingers from getting burnt!! so yeah what a great idea! Anways back to my story, I finished 9 candles, only thing is now I wanna keep them all!!
they look so great!!
I will take a picture of them tomorrow when i get to work and send it this way!!
I just taught my club gals how to do this last week---it is SO fun and they absolutely LOVED it! In fact, it's what I'm doing for neighbor gifts this year. I'm using the Silent Night set from the Holiday Mini--they look great!
For any of you intimidated by it--DON'T BE! Just practice on a couple of little dinky candles you don't care what happens to and you'll be a pro in no time.
I just learned to do candles about 2 weeks ago. Wanted to do them for the teachers. Got sick last week. I did 9 candles last night to hand out to the teachers today. This morning after I dropped the kids off at school, I went out bought 3 more candle. I did 2 for the ladies in the front office and one for myself. I am beat, but it was fun!

I tried stamping on candles for the first time this year. I was very surprised at how easy it was. I did learn a few tricks though. If your candle is darkish (red) try white ink not black (doesn't show too well). If it is white, the darker ink the better, If you have a mix that you want to match, embossing works great but because it is covered in wax don't expect it to shine as normal.
I've used a variety of dollar store candles and found the scented ones work best.

I also love to stamp on candles -- made a couple last night, and plan to purchase some more today for the teachers at school -- using the Christmas Rose stamp from the Christmas Cardinal set. I love to learn to make anything different from a card!
I have a question for all of you---how do these burn? I would be worried that the tissue paper would catch on fire! I have heard that some people melt the top down enough to put a tea light in and burn that, but most of the ones I've seen don't have that done.
MY SENTIMENTS EXACTLY!!!! I stamped on candles for the first time just the other night!!!! I was sooo easy and they turned out so great! I love your's with the All I Have Seen set - I'll have to do some like that!
Carrie - the tissue paper is so light that it just burns up with the candle wax. At least, that's what I've heard. I haven't burned any that I've made yet.

Thanks!
I have bruned several of mine...
I use the larger candles (NOT tapers)... usually about two or more inches across. They burn just fine as the flame is far enough away... besides, *most* larger candles don't burn clear to the edge. What I have found is that most of the candles tend to burn downward in the center so it looks like one of those candles you buy in a decorated glass cylinder. (hope that makes sense?).
Wishing I could remember the burning time... thinking 30 minutes per half inch across the candle... and this keeps you safe. I usually keep a watch on mine... when the melted part nears the edges... maybe 1/4 inch or so... I snuff it out. Then when I light it again, I do the same. This begins the cylinder down the middle. Once it gets down about half inch or so it continues on its own.
Sometimes, if you snuff your candle out after a very short burning time... you have a tiny hollow down the middle, not making full use of your candle. You can, if you want, do this on purpose so that you can use a votive inside, saving your beautiful artwork.
Hope this helps... Just remember... burning candles should never be left unattended and you will be fine.

I was experimenting with this recently. I made the first group of candles for my Thanksgiving table. The second one, I was playing with how to stamp best on dark candles. I used red tissue paper that I had cut to the actual size of the candle. I then embossed copper stars on it using copper ink and embossing powder. After embossing, I used wax paper to hold it to the candle and melted it on.
I learned a couple of things from this. If you look closely, you can see that there are missing pieces on the stars. The reason why is that some of the ep came off and stuck to the wax paper. So, if you're putting embossed tissue paper onto candles, you're better off using parchment paper instead of wax paper. I forgot to take a picture of the other ones I made before I put them in the mail. I'm getting ready to do a couple of candles with white embossed snowflakes, hopefully on blue candles. I'm going to look today and see what I can find. I'm picky about my scents. I can't stand floral scents (actually my allergies can't stand them.)
My demo (Eleonor) showed us how to do stamp on candles at our last class. Wow! Can it be any easier? Her hint is that stamping on white candles with white tissue paper is the easiest because it is simpler to match the color between the two.

I love stamping candles too!! The first time I heard about it I was so excited and didn't have any tissue paper... so I grabbed a square of toilet paper, stamped it and practiced on a little votive candle. It still works!! lol. The image isn't as crisp as it is on tissue... but at least I knew I could do it!
Where can I find unscented candles. I want to makes some for some family members but the fragrance bothers them. I've been looking all over for some but haven't found any. I've found tea lights or votives that are unscented but I want bigger candles than that.
I intended to make one for my son and future DIL for Christmas - I bought a personalized stamp with their names and wedding date, bought the candle, just didn't get around to it. I'm going to try it tonight - we're getting together tomorrow for invitation planning, so I'd love to have something to show them (I'm thinking wedding favors - I'm glad I have till August 25th!)
Everyone's candles are gorgeous - I'm dying to try this!

I love stamping on candles too....and I taught 47 first graders how to make them for their parents christmas presents this year. I also taught third graders to stamp on tissue then emboss it onto ceramic tiles and 137 forth graders made cards. It was a busy December at school, but I love getting the kids to stamp and see their faces when their projects turn out.

I'd try places like Wal Mart - they usually have large candles for cheap.
