Clowns, skulls, sock monkeys - don't really like any of them. But I'm a bit strange, while most people think real monkeys are cute, they freak me out. To me, they look like little demonic monsters.

As for the OP, not in my taste. My 10 year old DS is absolutely freaked out by skulls. I don't know why, but he just can't stand them. He even gave a pirate sword to his brother because it had a skull on it. He doesn't even like looking at pictures of the human skeleton in books.

When it comes down to it; fairies, wizards and witches bother me along with tarot cards, Ouija boards and fortune tellers. ( I am sure I left out something) But there is a fine line between "cute" and strange sometimes, especially around Halloween. Whatever makes money is the "norm" these days, even in rubber stamps. A bit of a sad reality.

I am really shocked that so many people have such strong feelings on this set. When I first saw it, I knew I had to have it. I am in my late thirties and don't have a teenage daughter (only a 6 year son) but I still loved it (and not to use on things for my son).

I am a Christian and see a lot of things in today's world that are offensive to me, but I just don't see this set as being demonic or satanic. I see it as a totally a fun, "hip" or "cool" set.

I am doing a craft show in my super small, Bible belt, country town in a few weeks. I made these to sell there Just Jawing Tile Coasters by stampcrazzzy at Splitcoaststampers and I don't see there being any negative comments from people there. Now I might be completely wrong, but I don't think so.

The great thing about SU! is that they offer so many sets that appeal to some many different people. I am just suprised that people pick out certain sets to make whole threads about how much they dislike that set (Sock Monkey being another one. I love that set too, as I collect sock monkeys). If everyone made a thread with all the sets they didn't like, SCS would burst! JMO! Please don't flame, I just think there has been so much of this lately.

When I first saw that set my first thought was "was are they thinking?!?" I just don't get it.

I actually love them! I am a 36 year old Christian woman, and I will buy anything that has a skull and crossbones on it.

Actually, the skull and crossbones is a symbol of my sorority (a national sorority - Sigma Sigma Sigma) - it is a "protection" from evil in our case. I don't see the skull and crossbones as demonic or satanic at all. I actually have a skull and crossbones tattooed on my leg - for my sorority of course.

I'm glad there are more things out there using the skull and crossbones - makes it a lot easier to scrapbook sorority events and things from college!

I am just home from Target, getting my soon to be kindergartner a few tshirts and saw the most adorable shirt, but then I noticed up in the corner there was a skull and crossbones in rhinestones. She is 5, I wouldn't dream of putting that on her, not my taste in the least. I don't get the appeal for that set nor do any of my stamp campers....but demonic & evil? nah, just icky.

I haven't seen the SU set though.
I love the reference to Da de la muerte of some of it, and I can see some of it awesome for my son's age group--he's 12 and that kinda thing is popular; I just bought him skater boy shoes for school, and he's thrilled at the skulls and crossbones on those . . .

I love Grateful Dead, too, and the memories these symbols bring back.

But, weird as it sounds, the art style of some of it appeals to me greatly and others don't--I don't like the girly ones with pink pigtails and hair bows, for some reason I can't really pinpoint.

In any event, I love the more generic skulls and crossbones for HALLOWEEN, which is my favoritest holiday of all, and my hubby's birthday, too! Oooh, and pirate stuff, too! Wheeeeeeeee!!! ;)

I hate that symbol too!!! I'm appauled at all the wizard/magic garbage aimed at children too. It's satanic. How can anyone not see the demonic connection when it's a universal symbol for death! Why do you think it's on poison bottles???!!!! Symbols in themselves do not harm, but the spiritual connection to them can be harmful! Read your Bible and see all the cases of spiritual symbols and their power! (Moses' staff for one!)

What really makes me angry is when they put that nasty symbol on children's clothes and even baby stuff! That would be the day when I would write "death" across my grandsons! It's a curse! Wake up people!

Death is not necessarily a curse. Death is a part of life. It's all in the interpretation of the symbol. There are other Christian posters in this thread who obviously do not feel that this symbol is Satanic.

Thank you! I for one, as a Christian, look at death as a good thing. I know I will be with God and that is the best thing ever! I never understood why people view death as bad, it is natural and allows us to be with our Father.

I hardly view a skull with hearts as satanic.

To each their own though!

I love them when they are with flourishes and not realistic. It all depends on the style.

I do not see it as evil or whatever - I would put it in a pop culture type of thing.

Taking a scary image and turning it into a girly image to me is reappropriating an image to gain control over its power, if you want to get a deeper interpretation.

Oooh, that is deep, Suzy! What you said reminded me of that opening scene on symbolism in the DaVinci Code--you know which one I'm talking about? I loved that scene--heck, I loved the whole movie!

Ha! Yes I love that book and movie

Or how about Harry Potter - when Snape had the kids imagine the thing they feared the most, then added silly dresses or rollerskates to it to take away the power.

Hi all!

It's been a while since I have posted on a thread and I have been following this one. I am a very conservative Christian and I am having a party next month specifically to get this set free for my daughter who will be 16 next week. I see nothing satanic or demonic about it. When you get down to it, the skull is not a symbol of anything, it is ANATOMY. We all have one after all. I do understand that it can be used in ways that are inappropriate but then anything can be used in those ways, ever see the album cover of a Guns and Roses album, you may never look at the flower the same way again.

Scripture says that the Lord made everything and he created us and said that we were good, even our skulls, so who am I to say they are demonic.

Besides I don't have a cherry stamp...

Oh yes it was Lupin I forgot

For anyone who likes skulls - here is my Gums and Roses Card. Not a scary skull, just silly.

Same skull can be seen here, this time it is for Halloween.

I am kind of over the skull thing but I do think the SU one is cute. It is on my maybe list...

I like them and think they are cute. People can label anything demonic but it's what you make of it. Why a skull and crossbones? Why not puppies? C'mon.

Love, love, love the skull set. I ordered it first thing on the opening day of the catalog.

DD's 11th bday was yesterday, and we had a party with pink skulls as the theme--plates, napkins, bandanas for everyone, party favors, it was all pink skulls. Even the boys liked it! I made a bday card for dd with the skull set and a cute door hanger for her bedroom door and also gave her the stamp set (with the understanding that I can borrow it anytime I want).

DD loves anything with skulls. I can't walk past any skull clothing without buying it for her. She practically has an entire skull wardrobe--shoes, bathing suit, and more shirts than I can count. Maybe she loves them so much because of the Pirate movies, but I also think part of it is because she is a bit of a tomboy and she can have girly skulls and not feel too girly. You know--she can wear pink to look like a girl but have a skull on it so the boys still think she's cool. LOL. Plus, she has never been afraid of death. She sees it as a part of life. I have to thank Disney's Lion King for that whole circle of life bit. She has never forgotten that little life's lesson (although it sounds like many of you would prefer to think of that as a little "death's" lesson).

So, to each his own. While I'm loving the skulls and sock monkeys, the rest of you can love the endless supply of flower sets SU has to offer.

Default I agree

What i don't like about the skull set is the fact that there are hearts in the eye socket...that is weird to me. And a bow for the hair? What hair? I dunno. Just odd, not for me.

As for the sock monkey, I think they are in style this year, but maybe because I don't have kids I don't see the appeal.

But on the up side, I LOVE the hostess 3 set with the window. LOVE LOVE LOVE IT.

I'm not crazy about the skull and crossbones kinds of images, either, personally! But I guess the idea is that the style is "in" right now!

Well said - my daughter likes Hannah Montana/"girl goth" type stuff and it's just a playful look - kind of like bohemian meets rock star with flourishes, skulls/crossbones, cherries, bows, crowns, and tattoo images - mostly in different shades of pinks, greys and black. I bought the skull wheel and have used it to make pink-goth stuff for my daughter and her tween friends. They loved it!

But, as other posters said - to each their own - and I would be in the camp of people who do NOT like the sock monkey -- not that there's anything wrong with the people who like him!!

Buying it Monday night, been on my must have list since I first saw it. I understand how some people find any skull related item evil or dark but it's not. I have owned a tattoo studio for over 10 years and although this style is just recently becoming main stream it has always been popular to many. I also have a teenage daughter and have been scrapbooking with the skull style papers for over a year. I'm glad that there is finally a set available.

Hehe! I did an internet search and found it. Watch, in the near future there will be more evil sock monkeys dressed in demonic costumes to come!

Can I please ask why you feel they are demonic? I mean dont get me wrong, I do not get the appeal but I am also not 14 either.

Oh good grief celebrating death is not Satanic neither is magic/wizardry, look up Satanism at http://www.religioustolerance.org/ and you will see this is certainly not the case.
