I can tell you why there are no Michael's add in newspaper
I can tell you why. It depends where I purchase a Sunday paper here in Kansas City. Does your Michael's ever ask for your zip code just before they ring you up at the counter? They do that for a reason. It is to track the customers for their adds. (This is what I was told by a Michael's manager--because I had the same question). There has to be a certain number of customers who patronize their stores from a certain area in order for the add to show up in the paper that is delivered in their area.
For instance, every time I purchased a Sunday paper in the area I live in KC, never had a Michael's add in it. However, if I went out of my way to another area of the city to purchase a paper, say near a Michael's store for instance, I found an add in the Sunday paper for Michael's.
I don't like it, but it is something between Michael's and the paper. I haven't had that problem with Joann's or Hobby Lobby. Just Michael's.
Anyway, that is what I found out about it--Jeannie
from what i understand (friend is account mgr) M's only puts out a coupon every other week and for holiday's not sure why your paper doesn't have one i don't think there was one this week. HTH
I had a Micheals ad this week. Our AC Moore has only been emailing the ads lately. Once and a while they show up in the paper. We live an hour away from the stores though, so that probably doesn't help.
I was told by a clerk at AC Moore that they are not going to be doing paper ads much longer. They're asking for email addies at the registers. Way cheaper, I guess. I just wonder what is to prevent someone from printing lots & lots of the coupons. Hmm...

Were I live there is both AC Moore and Michaels and they will take each others coupons. I signed up for AC Moore ones online so I can always print one off and use it at either store when I am going. Also, I was behind a lady at Michaels one day and she said she left her coupon at home and they gave her the discount anyway she just had to fill out a line on a sheet at the register so she could not do it more than once per day.

makes perfect business sense!
why pay for the advertisement in a zipcode where 0-5 people shop your store, when you can pay the same price for the ad in a zipcode where 349 shoppers will get it.
of course they may never see me who lives a hour away and NEVER will get an ad... but i guess (if the gas were to go down) and if i wanted something bad enough i would go anyway.
this probably only makes sense to me... but i am sharing it with you none the less.

Often they can use bar codes on online coupons to guarantee one-time usage. At least that's what Blockbuster.com has done. I'd personally prefer the online coupons - we are not newspaper people, and it takes me too much time to buy the paper and weed through it for the coupons I want, which may or may not actually even be there!

We haven't had an AC Moore ad in about a month and a half. I do get their e-mail ads though. I wonder if they figured people were using their newspaper coupons in other stores, but printer-generated coupons couldn't be used anyplace else but AC Moore.
A few years ago (when Michael's was still doing weekly ads) we had a problem with having our newspaper delivered, so when I was on the phone with the circulation department about that, I asked why we didn't always receive a Michael's ad. The newspaper lady said that Michael's provides only a certain amount of ads to the newspaper. So, if the newspaper has a circulation of 25,000, but Michael's provides them with only 20,000 ads, then 5,000 people are going to be out of luck.

Well, three people lost out on Sunday, because I got four ads in my paper!

Joanns does the same thing. I had a cashier tell me that they are coded to your email/name. If you use too many (or give them to friends to use), your name can be kicked out of the system.
I just get the michaels ads by email every Sunday... Is there a way to print the coupons out of them though? If I see one online I usually just ask my mom or grandma to pull it out of her newspaper for me as they live only a few hours away and can mail it to me in time for me to use it. But printing it out would be much easier!

Every Michaels seems to have their own rules. I used to always be able to use 50% coupons from Joannes there. Last month though I was told that now they only accept those if they are also having a 50% off coupon at the same time. ??? That's never been the case before! I wonder if that means the same for the 40% coupons.
I really wish M's would have ONE policy across the board for all stores. It's just too confusing, lol.
Do you see the coupons at the Michael's site online in the States? We don't in Canada. I can never figure out when the ads/flyers are published either. But it's always an insert to the paper. Plus, I don't know what the rules are in the states, but if you live out of town, or out of the flyer distribution range, then all you have to do is let them know at the check out and they will apply the 40% discount. In fact, I did it in Florida a couple of weeks ago, so I'm thinking that the rules might be the same there as here? All you have to do is show ID proving where you live and you're good to go.
