Another hobbyist here! I did setup an etsy shop but haven't really followed it up like business so it's not selling like business LOL!
I make cards because I like to and like most others it's a therapy for me. I wanted to sell them because I made more than I needed and to get some pocket money for more supplies . I'm tempted to try for DTs but haven't been on one yet to know the pressure, etc; but yes at the back of my mind I do agree with all of you who say that they don't want any stress/pressure while crafting. The whole idea to start doing this was to get away from the stress!
you almost need a third catagory for the poll. I said I'm not a hobbiest as I do sell some cards/papercrafts but it's not a regular thing. This is mainly a hobby for me. I keep a basket of assorted cards for sale at work and I specifically sell my stuff for holidays such as Christmas and Valentines Day but, for the most part, I generally make cards for fun and relaxation. (however, it's not very relaxing at Christmas when I have lots of orders on top of all the other things I need to do at Christmas time.)
Me too. I haven't voted but I make cards because I love to, and sell them because others love them!
Only an enjoyable pastime for me. I make cards for all my own needs and often for my family to use too. I give my Mother and a couple of friends a box of cards as a Birthday present and they are always pleased with them. I have also made a lot for a charity shop. People say why don't you sell them, but I couldn't be bothered, I would hate to have to make to order.
Like many people have said, it is therapeutic and I enjoy making and giving them away to family and friends. My niece told me she couldn't wait to see what I had made for Christmas this year(I usually make a card and gift card for my family). I work full time and making cards is relaxing.
Lil
I consider myself a Hobby Stamper even though I am on a DT at present. I have resisted the urge to sign on as a demo because I want to be able to dabble in the best of all of the worlds there are out there- so many choices!!! I would only stamp for a DT if I love the stamps and I stamp about the same amount.
What is most fun for me is trying all of the different techniques.......
I'm a hobby gal too. I make cards just for the pure pleasure of it- I find it very fun to try new techniques and continually learn and improve on my skills. I have sold some cards in the past to one of my Dental school teachers (using the Dental Bella images). I decided to try doing a craft fair this holiday season simply because I had so much stuff already made and why not try to make a few $ to help support my habit a bit. I ended up not selling a whole lot, but that's ok because I also learned how to make some other fun and cute gift projects in the process. I have no interest in making my hobby a business- then it would not be relaxing at all......just stressfull.
Hobby stamper as well; I spend waaaaaay too much $ on this hobby to think I'd ever recuperate it by selling! If I tried to sell, I'd be bothered by how much $ I was losing, LOL. Conversly, doing this as a hobby, I don't consider it a loss, KWIM?
I voted. Hobby over here. It starts off being relaxing until I can't get the card to look the way I want it then it becomes just a wee bit stressful but not too bad. I don't sell them, I'm just happy that the recipient likes them and the only person I make some for are for my mom (to give away). I'd love to be on a design team (although I'm not sure I'd like the pressure) only because it would mean that someone/s really enjoy my body of work. However I'm not under any illusion that I possess enough stamps to qualify. C'est la vie.
Stamping is a great stress reliever for me. and that's what it started out as, but my friends and co-workers like my cards so much that I've started selling them. Just by word of mouth....nothing too involved.
I am a hobby stamper. I make calendars and cards to give away as christmas gifts so for me it really is enjoyable. Although it can get expensive, but I try to keep myself on a budget.
I also just got myself hooked on to Copic markers...thank goodness for tax refunds!!
stamping for me IS truly a hobby but i had to pick no because i DO sell 'made projects'
i don't generally 'take orders'. i made and sold christmas cards and a couple custom frames to my sons boss this year. i also have several women who buy my cards regularly but they just pick from a box of cards that i have already made.
i still consider this a hobby! i'm sure i didn't earn more than $300-400 at it... and i just put that right back into more supplies!
I am the same way, but I clicked Hobby Only, though I do sell a couple cards now and then as special requests...which is truly what a hobby is, there is no profit what-so-ever. I have spent literally thousands and probably gotten $100 back.
