In my case, I have been giving money for many years. I do most of my Christmas shopping at the bank. I no longer accept $100 bills as most stores will not accept them. Too much counterfitting.
The children and grandchildren really prefer cash so they can buy their own presents in the sales after Christmas.
Not possible to make things with dollar bills here in Canada. Smallest bill is a $5. We have those loonies and toonies. Big clunky heavy coins. You would not want to give too many of those.
In the past, I have just put them in cards and they always look forward to either their birthday or Christmas gifts.
One year I did get some large value gift certificates for a large mall and there was talk of them going bankrupt. They didn't but I was concerned so I no longer get gift certificates as they are not accepted by businesses who are in bankruptcy, even when the store is still selling off goods. Just cash or Visa & Mastercard. No cheques (checks) either.
Cash is always valid, no expiry date on it and the recipients get what they really want and if they don't, it is their fault. The gift will never end up at their next garage sale.
I do the same for wedding gifts too. Always appreciated.
Many years ago, our next door neighbor gave my sister and me a $20 bill in a maze box. It was so fun! I sat for probably 20 minutes trying to figure out the maze...as you had to complete the maze to get the money out!
Anyway, my hubby decided that sounded fun so that's what we're going to do for his niece. It's called a Bilz Box and I found it on Amazon. I'll have to craft a bill-sized card to put in the box with the money!
I have done two different things for our college aged son for gifts. One year he had to go on a scavenger hunt for his gifts. There were 7 clues in all. One included he must sing a karoake song before he could get his next clue. The first clue was in his stocking, and it was to wake us first before beginning his journey.
The other year, I made a stamped card and sewed a vellum envelope on inside with my sewing machine to hold the money.

I have lots of nieces and nephews. One year, I put each one's money inside an empty cardboard toilet paper tube, then wrapped the tube with pastel-colored tissue paper and tied off each end with ribbon so each gift looked like a giant piece of wrapped taffy. Very fun to look at.
I've frozen $1 gold coins into a block of ice (use a plastic shoe box and freeze layers of water/coin/water/coin) and I've used a decorative Christmas box from the dollar store, put cash in a plastic baggie, and filled the box with plaster, burying the baggie of money in the center - they need a hammer to get that one out.

DebiStringer had this awesome idea. I cased her and it worked great. You stack bills and then apply the compound and it looks great. We did it for my sister's graduation from college and everyone "ooooooo" and "ahhhhh".
This is my favorite way to give money too! I think it's especially good for guys. I have given it as birthday gifts and graduation gifts. They love the novelty of it.

My daughter and I just made this for her friends birthday...7 letters in her name! My dd is 7 and she made the flowers herself! we put the flowers in a vase with styrofoam and filled the vase with sour skittles...her favorite candy. Wish I would have taken a pic...but it had to go to the party! Everyone loved it and it was used as their centerpiece!! it was awesome! Thanks JennB.!
I took fruit cans with pop tops last year....opened from bottom of course...cleaned them out left the fruit label on them...attached a note "what was inside could make you healthy...now what's inside can make you wealthy" reattached bottom with CE the kids LOVED em!
My birthday is Christmas Day and for my 18th & 21st birthdays, my mom made garland out of One Dollar Bills and hung it on the tree. And since I turned 13, my mom alway gave me $10 for each year of my life. So, there were 180 & 210 dollar bills strung on the tree those years.

Where do you get the compound "stuff"?
I want to make these for my nieces who are saving $ for Hawaii!
I bought boxes of jawbreakers last year and carefully opened them, slipped the money inside and used my SNAIL to close them up again.
When my neices and nephews unwrapped the jawbreakers, they all looked at me and said "Thanks" like WOW, a box of jawbreakers, nice. I almost died laughing and told them to look inside.
I read thru most of the posts but did not go to any blogs so these ideas may have been mentioned but two cool ones come to mind. First, there are so many table top size christmas trees out. Target has one at the dollar spot even. Assemble it and get ones for the amount and use the little baby clothes pins and attach them like ornaments. So, you have your own money tree.
Another is tape ones end to end and roll them up in a coil. Put them in a small jewelry box that you have cut a wide "slit" in (using an exacto knife) and pull the first couple of inches of the first dollar out of the slit. Write or stamp "PULL" on the box and you have a very long gift of money. Clear as mud? PM me if you don't get these instructions and are interested.
