Please help. I need to glue beach sand onto cardstock. I was thinking of mixing it with Crystal Effects, then brushing it on the paper, but I don't want it to be shiny like CE. Has anyone done this and what did you use? Would Future Floor Finish work?
I don't have tons of sand to experiment with and I also don't want the cardstock to curl up too much from the glue.
Thanks so much for your help!! I have to make 35 invitations with this sand!
I have never tried this. Have you thought about that O so Sticky tape? It comes in sheets and you could cut it to fit what you need. Also have you considered a shaker card?

No, I've never done one before, and I'm not sure I could make it look good with the stamp. I need to use the man in the boat stamp from the Summer by the Sea set. I'm making invites for my uncle's 60th birthday party. I got the sand and tiny shells from the beach near his home while I was on vacation.
I'm really not sure how I will do this; I'm just not that creative. My aunt wants the sand, shells and that stamp on the invite, but I'm just not sure how to incorporate it all. I'm more of a copier, so I'm looking through the gallery now but not coming up with much. That particular stamp doesn't really lend itself well to having sand. Now if I could use one of the other stamps, I'd have no problem, but we really need to use the boater. Why do I always get myself into these crazy projects!?!
I've done it...I used tacky tape (the really sticky, pink backed kind) You just sprinkle it on and then roll over it with your brayer (or a rolling pin, etc) I tried 2 way glue but it didn;t dry fast enough, released sand as time went on and started to curl the paper....
Does your aunt have her heart set on beach sand? What about using sandpaper instead? I've seen lots of cute cards which used sandpaper.

Yes. she really wants the sand from where they live. They waited all their life to have a house on the beach. she would know if I took the easy route and used the sandpaper. I don't want to dissappoint her because she is so good to me.
Does the sand have to be glued or stuck to the card? I made a really cute shaker card using the two girls on the beach from Seaside Sketches... I also used real sand, seashells, and star fish... I was very please how it came out
I used my Xyron: sent the cs through and then sprinkled sand over it, rolled with rolling pin, shook off excess, and sprinkled and rolled more if needed. I used this on a sb page and have had no problems. Have fun!
Not a suggestion for how to stick the sand to the card, but an idea for how to use it on the card - instead of trying to make it look like beach area, could you use the sand as something else? For example, if you had lettering on the front of the card, could you highlight the letters with a glue pen and sprinkle the sand on those? Over a smaller area like that, the glue wouldn't make the cardstock curl.
I haven't ever used it, but what about that Heat 'n Stick stuff SU has in the catty? It's by the glitter or embossing powder. They say to use it with the glitter.

Yep, this certainly does work. The x-yron folks demo'd this exact process on DIY-scrapbooking. They did several 12 x 12 pages where at least 1/3 of the page had sand adhered this way. The pages looked great and there was no sand falling off.
Another thought someone somewhere suggested...cut a small window where you want the sand and put packing tape on the back (so the sticky part is in the window). Then sprinkle the sand over the tape.

Do you hae Jac paper? Like double sided tape only in light cardstock.
You can draw and then cut out any shapes you want eg. waves. Peel the back off and lay onto the cardstock then take the top layer off and sprinkle beach sand over....I use this all the time. No need for rolling pins ever.
