I'm seriously considering becoming a hobby demo because I spend a good amount every month and there's still LOTS of SU items I need (want?). I don't know all the ins and outs of it and was wondering if someone can give me the details. I know you have a $300 quarterly minimum but don't know about discounts or sign up bonuses or anything like that. In fact, HOW would I sign up??
Do you currently have a demo? If so, that would be the person to contact. He/she can get you all sign up and ready to go. I'm not sure if there are any sign up bonuses right now, or not. I'll check the website for ya, though.
I do have a demo who is also a Hobby Demo. Problem is she is rather non-responsive. Sent her an e-mail several days ago and still haven't heard from her. This isn't the first time this has happened. In fact, that's kind of what got me to thinking about being a demo.
Thank you for the brochure. One specific question: It states that you get 10% after $150 in sales, but do you also qualify for the hostess sets at that level??
Yes, you do qualify for hostess gifts & free merchandise after you hit the $150 mark. Apparently there is a small recruiting promotion: free stamp set any price for any new recruits who sign during Feb and March plus the free set any price for the recruiting demo.
I like being a hobby demo. You get advance notice of specials, you can preorder special sets and you can purchase Level 2 & 3 (one each) before the new catalogs come out, plus lots of other perks including SU's magazines. The 20% discount is awesome, too.
You always get a 20% discount off of every order. If your order qualifies for hostess benefits, you get those, too. You get previews of new stamps and lately we have been getting an extra 20% off of those, too!
If you recruit, you get a % of their sales based on your sales/title, and if you sell certain $ amounts, you can earn another percentage of your sales as a volume rebate. Most hobby demos don't earn that, but I think it is a pretty good deal even without that.

If your current demo does not respond, go to SU's website and search for another demo in your area. This way you will have someone locally to assist your with the demo paperwork. The ladies on SCS do a wonderful job assisting each other but it always helps if you have someone in your area as a support system.
agreed with everyone above. If you tend to spend a lot on SU products, joining as a demo is a great option. Its a fun community and I always love a discount. You also get access to a lot of great resources from SU itself (the magazine, online tutorials, online gallery, etc).
Also, one other thing to note. If you sign up during SAB (feb 1-mar 31) you get an additional free stamp set from the main catalog! Its any stamp you want up to $47, which is awesome.

You can choose any demo to sign up under. You need to choose one that your personality matches with. You also need to consider what you want from an upline - lots of meetings and hands on and someone who you can borrow things from or just someone you can ask questions via e-mail. Choose what's best for you!
Personally, I don't like meetings and had done the whole Direct Sales thing before, so I chose a long distance upline (Hi Amy!). I also have 2 downline - one local and one long distance.

I am a hobby demo too. I knew that I would never want this to be a business for myself, so I chose a wonderful lady here (Hey Suzanne!!!) as my upline. I didn't want or need meetings or someone who would push me to sell more.
I made a great choice. I found someone who matches my personality, answers all my questions, but never makes me feel bad for not selling a ton.
I love the 20% off, plus with advanced notice of promos and such, I can time my purchases for maximum "bang for my buck" I'm happy as a clam and so glad I joined the wonderful SU family.
Another cool thing is that you can sign up online, anytime night or day. To do so, choose a demonstrator, go to her website and click the join now in the upper right corner. You will need a password to sign up, just ask. I'm sure any demonstrator will give you her password.
It does make sense to sign up if you are buying so much. You'll receive the demonstrator discount, and You can still receive hostess benefits for orders over $150. You will also have access to the Stampin' Up! Demonstrator website. It has all kinds of tips, training, and samples. You'll get Stampin' Up! news hot off the press. Plus, you'll receive a monthly Stampin' Success magazine. Just be careful not to run over your postman in you effort to get your Stampin' Success.

You're too funny! I'm meeting with my demo this week so will let you know what I decide. If the SU family is anything like the group on this site, it's sure to be a wonderful experience. You guys really are the greatest!
