Default Hoarding

I occasionally get into a mood to purge stuff. Tonights the night apparently.

I just loaded up 13 (yes, 13!!!) Trash bags full of stuff and took it to donation. Paper, saved tins to cover, etc. You name it it may have been in there.

I started opening containers that i havn't seen since we moved and bought our house over a year ago. The one I just opened has .. 200+ containers of glitter. What on earth was I thinking when I bought these things. I mean, I know I got them for .10 a piece. But still. I gotta quit with the hoarding of items. This is really starting to become a problem.

I don't know why I posted this actually.. but maybe this is a good thing if I promise to keep going and post pics when I'm done

Default Congratulations

This is something I've been wanting/needing to do for a long time also. Congrats on taking the plunge. I'm off work for a few days next week and getting rid of things I haven't used in over a year (or ever) is on my list of things to do and your post is an inspiration to get it done!

That's a terrific way to end the year and start a new one more organized and 13 bags lighter in the crafting department. Someone else will be thrilled to get it!

Thanks for your post. It reminds me that I need to do some of that myself. Congrats on your progress!

Thanks for the well wishes! I really need it! I just started dragging down my WM rubber stamps. I gotta purge some of these ! 3 flights of stairs to carry them SUCKS. I already sold some last month on evilbay, but not enough!

This was my wall of WM stamps 2 or 3 years ago. I've gotten quite a bit more since then so you can only imagine the weight of these things coming down the stairs.. UUGH. I'm really surprised my wall stood up after that!

I realized that the weight of my WM stamps has killed my shelves upstairs (my new room I'm moving to downstairs has brand new shelves). The shelves are from IKEA, and although they can generally take a beating, I decided to improvise and build a "stamp shelf" from the wire shelving sets. I used to use something similar for my paper storage, but since I just purged 3 bags of paper, I have limited myself to one shelf of 12x12 and one shelf of 8 1/2 x 11.

Here is the design with and without the stamps. The stamps are stored in acrylic picture frames so that the weight from the upper shelf doesn't crush the rubber. The wire frame hits the acrylic shelving boxes and not the stamps.

The shelf by itself is heavy, and sits perfectly at the end of my desk. I may eventually make a dust cover for it. I need to go through and re-organize these, so they are messy right now. This unfortunately is only half my collection. I'll have to find a way to improvise for the rest of them - maybe they will go on the shelves just on the bottom so they can take the weight.

(yes, I know I need to vaccuum  )

If you look in my old pictures of my craft room when we lived in our townhouse, you can see my use of the wire shelfs in the shelving units. These same shelves moved with us to this house. These are the shelves that i can now say cannot be saved. The shelves are warped because of the weight. I guess I got my moneys worth over the years out of them though...

I'm organizing and purging too! I just assembled a bunch of the white Jetmax cubes for my stuff. I have 21 total and could probably use more. But instead, I'm going through stuff and purging like mad.

I'm also getting all the non-crafting stuff, like off-season clothes, out of my room. I'm making one holy mess, but it's sure going to be nice when I'm all done. Good luck with your room renovations!

I love love love those. I think though I'd have to connect them together somehow because the slightest seperation would drive me mad. I'm OCD with things like that

I think you can connect them side to side. Most have little holes in the sides and they come with these connectors that are double sided, so half goes into each cube, thereby keeping them close together.

I have ceramic tile in my room, so it can be a bit uneven and causes the gaps. Once I'm certain of my arrangement, I'm going to add the connectors and shim underneath to try and get rid of the gaps. ;)

HOLY WOW... Those cubes are so great! I can only dream of such an amazing space. I suppose I have the room for it but my storage items don't even compare.

14 sizzix towers carried down 3 flights of stairs... I'm tired...

I'm thinking of running out to the nearest 24/7 gas place for a frosted sugary-caffinated-goodness beverage... mmmmm...

3 flights of stairs as many times as you have done it tonight... ya I would need caffine too.

Ok, I too have been in the process of culling, re-organizing and the like. I have the cubes like 'babydal57' (which I LOVE, btw) - but here's my ? I see how you organize your cardstock (in the separate containers, stacked upright) but do you sort them by color or color families? I have a bunch of those slotted cubes but I can only put ONE color in each (which leaves a LOT of extra room.) I think I might be a little OCD about it. I think I just like knowing which color I have. If I put them into a container (even by color or color family) how will I know in particular which color is "Summer Sun" (yes, I like the SU colors!) or whatever. I like being able to just find the color label of a paper instead of having to get my color swatch out each and every time. Make sense? Anyone have any suggestions...

BTW - 's_anthony', you ROCK for doing so much culling!

You could make a divider to put between each, punch a tab out of the color and write the name on it then put next color in and add another divider. That way each family could be together but still seperate. I have my SU paper in a lateral file cabnet with each color tab and labeled. I would go nuts if I didn't have them marked.

The student in me can't help being a hoarder when it comes to crafting!! I don't care how ugly that piece of paper is, it WILL get used for something. Glitter can fix many things!!

I can't wait until I am a real grown up with a real job and have so much stuff I forget I have things!! (please note I am 28 and working on my PhD. I am a huge nerd, but still on a studenty budget in the end)

Ok, THAT is brilliant! Seriously! I've been trying to think of how I could put more of my cardstock together (but haven't wanted to buy specific dividers - I'd rather spend money on actual crafty stuff!) I have A LOT of black cardstock, though, and could just punch a color of each cardstock to stick on a black piece with the name of the color and just put one right after another! I LOVE IT! Thank You, 'glitterdovefairy' for your awesome idea!

Well, I guess I technically need to get some of the paper files to put everything in (and also turn my cubes the other way unless I don't mind them being in a horizontal position - but I can do that!) I'll probably just keep them either in their current "order" (which is kind-of a rainbow style spectrum of lightest to darkest colors.) I'm excited!

Now I just need to find some of those paper filers on sale...

Oh and s_anthony... it doesn't help if I tell you they are onsale this week at Michaels either does it? I have totally been drooling over them every time I have been in. The boy gave me an "IOU some scrappin/stamping stuff" note for Christmas so I may have to call it in, but i was hoping to hit up some stamp sales....

WOW! This looks great. My DH won't be too happy because he just detached these shelves for me (worried about them being stacked too high), but I really want to be more organized and I really don't like having my dies on these shelves. I LOVE the color white on cupboards and cabinets. This looks so great and the fact that they all connect side by side would be awesome. I can also free up space on my craft table. This thread is making me feel like organizing my craftroom right now and it's almost midnight here! LOL

UGH, I know... and I have a sickness for thinking it's never too much. I have a love for dies and just think it's so great to have a die to go with a stamp for every occasion. I often wonder if stamping is really my hobby or my addiction. I just can't stop making cards. I drool over all the beautiful cards in the gallery and I just want to get better and better at stamping. I'm just glad that my family/friends feel that it's meaningful when I put forth the time to make a card for them. Little do they know, I can't stop myself.

Send your purged items my way

I love collecting stamping/scrapping items

PM me if you have any supplies to get rid of at low to no cost.

The paper that in vertical in the cropper hoppers is all 12x12 Bazzill that I mostly use for scrapbooking. So it's sorted by color package. All the monochromatic packs are in their own separate paper pouch inside the larger CHs. Then there is one CH for Doodlebug colors, one for the orange peel colors, one for the places colors, one for the Fourz colors, etc.

The cardstock that is horizontal is just random papers, sort of sorted by colors. The horizontal patterned papers are mostly monthly scrapbook kits that I haven't used yet.

All my SU cardstock is in a 2 drawer file cabinet that is not in the picture. It is sorted by color family with one folder for the color family asstd package and a folder for each color that I have a 24 package of. Someday I'll have a full package of each color. My PTI cardstock is also in the file cabinet. And last but not least, there is a hanging file in the cabinet for scraps of each color so that I can go there first before cutting into a new sheet.

HTH!

ETA: The clear cropper hopper paper holders come with clear plastic dividers and labels :-) They also come in 8.5x11 size, I believe.

Holy cow! I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't even know Sizzix made that many red dies. I think I might have about 20 or 25 red ones and that's it.

You go girl!!!

Oh, Sizzix is great! I'm in love with my bigshot (so thankful for Alicia's thread). I gave up my cuttlebug and bigkick and bought the bigshot after seeing all the videos on her thread. I just love my sizzix dies (obviously). There's always a wishlist a mile long for more sizzix dies. Next on my list are the "Texturz" and "Movers & Shapers"
There's a reason my DH gave up on talking me out of "minimizing" my craft room. That word just doesn't apply to me when it comes to stamping.
