Default gifts made by children

Hi! For Mother's Day every year I make pins with my classes on shrink plastic. For one of the classes I trace their hands and they decorate them. For the other class I cut out hearts and they decorate them (I cut all of the shapes out and they decorate with colored pencils). They could also stamp something on a square of shrink plasic and color it in with colored pencils. If you bake these in the oven instead of using a heat gun to shrink the plastic it shouldn't take too long. It takes me a while, because I use the heat gun so the children can watch their art work shrink (they love it)!! Shrink art is around $5-$6 for a package of 8 pieces. You can get many, many, many out of one sheet. This may not be anything that you want to do, but I just thought I would pass it along.
Good luck,
Lauren

How about the insulated cups that are at the Dollar Store, remove the paper inside and cut a new one to go in. Have the children decorate them and reinsert. Could also tie a ribbon around with a small tag.

This is a more "teacher/adult directed" activity, but maybe you can adapt it.

One year for mother's day, I used small photos (1/2 wallet size) of my students and cut them down to fit behind the flat glass marbles. I then attached the photos to the marbles with crystal effects. When the marbles were dry, I glued heavy duty magnets to the back. The mothers could use the magnets on the fridge to hold up classwork, drawings, etc.

Just a thought,
Melissa

What about making CD picture frames. I'm not sure how much the CDs cost to buy. You can pick up some for free at Burger King/Wal-mart and the ones that you get in the mail. That would help cut down on the cost. Cut cardstock to cover the front of the CD with a hole for the picture to show thru, and whatever embellishment you choose to add. You could make them magnetic or hanging picture frames. Just a thought! I know I love getting the little school pictures in frames that my DD has made.

I have done this activity at my kiddos b-day parties. I put paper down and let them color in with sharpies. Also, if you have access to a toaster oven it works great for shrink a decent size batch AND lets the kids watch them shrink.

I have also received a decorated 4" x6" piece of cs with wallet photo glue in the middle. The cs had ribbon strung through for hanging. I have received decorated craft foam frames with a pic inside. I have received 6" x 6" tile with acrylic paint hand prints on it.
