What sort of results are you getting? I've used them and like the result. Less dramatic then the CB EF, but nice for a subtle background.
Try misting your cardstock with either water or rubbing alcohol. This helps make the fibres of your cardstock more 'shapeable' and the 'smoosh' into the texture plate more. (Like the techno-garble??)
I've also noticed that you have to crank it slower than usual, to give the CS time to shape. (sounds weird, but it made a difference for me!)
Do you have the silicone (or similar) mat that you're using with it? I use two tan embossing pads from wizard with mine.
Let me know if that helps!
First sandwich
1). A Plate
2). paper you want to emboss
3). Sizzix plate
4). tan Nestabilities rubber mat
5). 3 or 4 sheets of cardstock(more or less depending on Cuttlebug tightness)
6). B plate
or
second sandwich
1). A Plate
2). paper to be embossed
3). sizzix plate
4). sizzix black silicone rubber
5). sizzix black impression pad
lvpj2.....A mouse pad will work a bit, but certainly not give you the same effect as a rubber mat will. You are best to get the rubber mat from the Sizzix Texture Starter kit. Only the Starter kit has the rubber mat. You can use other brands of rubber mat also as previous posts state.
Remember that these are texture plates and not embossing folders. Your result will NOT be as deep as it would with the Cuttlebug embossing folders. Putting extra cardstock through with the texture plates to get a deeper impression is a good way to damage/break your Cuttlebug with too much thickness.
where can I find these mats. Would a mouse pad work?
They are available on-line from Ritz Cameras, but you could go to Lowes and ask for a plumbers gasket. It is a red piece of rubber about 6"square and is only $1.48. I finally got one just last week.
Here's what I'm doing and it seems to work.
from the bottom up
F. ((bottom)) large plate (A)
E. texturz plate with the side I want facing up
D. cardstock I want to emboss
C. silicone pad (SU) or you could use the rubber mat or gasket
B. extra cardstock or chipboard...just enough to make it fit in the CB snugly, but not enough to make it too tight (I have a thin piece of chipboard that is the weight of a cereal box that works perfectly)
A. a thin Cuttlebug plate (B)
One trick I read here on SCS was to spritz your paper with alcohol if you want a better impression...works great!
It seems to me that the important thing is that the CS you want to emboss is sandwiched between the silicone or rubber plate and the texturz plate!! That way the rubber/silicone can squish down into the CS. It doesn't seem to matter if this sandwich is facing up or down. BUT, I happen to like mine with the rubber on the top so the pressure of the roller presses down onto the rubber and "into" the texture of the fancy plate. Just mho.
Another FYI, you definitely need a thin Cuttlebug plate on the top because you never want the sil/rubber next to the Cuttlebug wheels ((ask me how I know)), it will get caught in the rollers *grin ;)

That is a great tip.
This group is awesome
