Hello, was that not one of the most interesting elections ever? I did not get my candidate in but I am not unhappy with the results. Canada has done well in the past with a minority government. Meanwhile Canada Day is just upon us and I was wondering what everyone does to celebrate. Our family is attending the neighbourhood fireworks display in the evening and having friends over for supper. We are serving Asparagus, Salmon Filets on the BBQ, Wild rice and Cranberry Salad, other veggie not decided yet and a blueberry desert.

Can't say as I know the outcome yet (!!) ~ was too busy obsessing about the "BIG SECRET"...
Here on the Queen Charlotte Islands, we have "Canada Days" every year. This is two days of fun! We have logger sports, kids logger sports, ball and soccer tournaments, games, contests, mud bog (this involves races through mud for 4x4 equipped vehicles), and of course a parade...all the folks from all the different towns come together and watch. Logger sports is huge here (imagine that! A town full of loggers enjoying their work turned into fun!!). It's a great weekend every year.
As for the day itself, I'll be working, as we're taking the Friday instead so we all get a long weekend. What a treat!
And your BBQ sounds yummy!!! Can I come over??! LOL

I'm glad you're doing something for the 1st. This year is the first time that we're celebrating. My very best friend is an American, and I have been quite envious of the patriotism that she still feels (she's lived in Canada for 20 years!!!). So, out with the red & white!!! We've invited several friends to join us, but I'm still trying to decide on a menu (maybe, as a start, butter chicken, rice, spinach salad, strawberry something for dessert....) I'm hoping that it won't rain (forecast is for showers )
Hi Debbi, Any time you can make it to Toronto you are welcome to come for supper. Sounds like fun on Canada Day up there. Edith, Butter Chicken sounds great! Feel free to pass on the recipe.

Ah ! Canada Day ! This year it falls upon me with mixed emotions. I'm a very proud Canadian and am always excited for Canada Day. I'm originally from Fredericton NB and have spent the last few years singing with my brother-in-law and other family and friends in Officer's Square for those who have started their celebrations early in the day. We spent the afternoon downtown and returned to Officer's Square to hear my brother-in-law and his band and to watch the fireworks after dark. I moved to Toronto two years ago but have always travelled home for the celebrations. This year we have chosen to stay in Toronto for Canada Day and we plan to attend the festivities in our neighbourhood. My daughter met a new friend last week and has been invited to his birthday party in the afternoon and we will then meet up with some other friends to go to the fair and watch the fireworks.......if little Madison holds out that long. LOL
Happy Canada Day, eh! ( I know it's a little early) I'm not sure what we are doing yet. Might get together with friends or go to MIL and sit in the hot tub! Just hope the weather is nice.....this is Alberta we're talking about here! K:]
We are looking forward to going to Fort Edmonton Park for some family celebrations and a Bar B Que with friends. My daughters will be so excited for all the events they will be having - horse rides and ice cream making etc...(Fort Edmonton Park shows how life was in the "olden" days) I'm hoping that they will stay awake to see the fireworks at the end of the day! Eleven o'clock with a 19mth old and a 4 yr old might be a bit of a stretch Looking forward to some fun. Happy Canada Day to all of you!
Would you believe that I forgot to vote? I don't know how I forgot that?? *LOL* I guess I was out having too much fun in the sun!
We don't normally do too much on Canada Day---a little bit of boating.....or yard work. I think I'll be doing the latter this year but on Friday we are heading down to Montana to Echo Lake to do some wakeboarding. I'm sure it will be crazy down there with American festivities.

I love Canada Day. It's a really close race between that and Christmas for my favourite holiday. I live in Fredericton NB and my family has a huge Canada Day party every year. Everyone dresses in red and white and we spend the day by the pool and BBQing. This will be my daughter's first Canada Day, she is 9 1/2 mths, and I spent a ridiculous amount of money getting her decked out for the occasion. I can't wait to get pictures tomorrow. Given her age, I'm thinking we won't make it to the fireworks this year.
Hi Everyone!!
Canada Day is extra special for my family and I because it is also my Mom's Birthday.
The family usually goes to her house for swimming, socializing and BBQ. We usually go to the Fireworks display in town.
Than on Saturday we get together at a friends house (kids and all) and have a big BBQ and swim there (He lives right on the lake)
It's going to be a lot of fun this year. I'm taking lots of pictures and video.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY CANADA!!!!!

That's my dad's birthday too!! Wow! My mom usually has a big dinner with the whole family (if everyone was there, including neices, nephews etc there would be 22 of us!!). This year he'll be 74!!
Cheers!

Debbi:
Well Happy Birthday to your Dad!!!
Hope you have a great time celebrating. I know we will.
The weather here is going to be great so I know my kids will be living in the pool!!

Hi Fellow Canadians, and happy Canada Day to you...
This year I am spending it with my upline STAMPIN! after all of that work, we are going to get together at my house and have a bar-b-que by the pool with our families. Usually we attend our local canada day celebrations but this year they have changed the format a bit, and decided that it would be best spent with family and friends... doing what we love. Hopefully we will be able to see the fire works at dusk... but if not... smores by the bonfire after dark will be a good substitute!
Have a great day!
Kerri
PS. I am from a very small town in Manitoba.
I get homesick just thinking about it! I'm a displaced Canadian who is living with her husband in California. I sent my mom, sister and brother cards made from the SU "I Love Canada" set and my mom just got hers today.
I have to work tomorrow in the a.m. and then the Folsom Pro-Rodeo "cattle drive" is at lunch. They drive long-horns from the Rodeo grounds down through Sutter Street which was part of the original trail for cattle drives.
Anyway, everyone have a great day tomorrow. Oh yeah, my family is in Fort Saskatchewan, near Edmonton.
Jeannie: i'm still debating on that stamp set. My DD really would like it, but i'm stalling. Wonder whether they'll have something to replace it in the new catalog? or do I just get it "just so I have something CDN"!?
At any rate, why don't you wear red & white tomorrow for work. That might help make it a special day even if your not up here. My friend *always* wears her red, white & blue for the 4th.... so I think you should be able to do the same in CA.
That's a good idea - I think that because there is going to be a separate CDN catalog that there will definetly be something CDN in there for sure. I found that I haven't really used it very much, although I really really like the fireworks stamp in that set.
I used to live in Calgary for 9 years, I loved it there. I still have many friends that live in Calgary and I do really really miss it.
It's nice to see so many other Canadians out there from SCS. I have not even thought about celebrations. Since I moved out on my own 7 years ago I have not been a part of any celebration. Maybe it's time I went out and found some people to celebrate with.
With the new catalog coming out from SU - in the US we will have one with US pricing only and in Canada you will have one with Canadian pricing only. If there are other differences between the two - I don't know.
can i join in? though born and bred here in the US of A, i'm the daughter of a native hamiltonian and a US father who was a pilot for the RCAF during WWII. my cousins are all still in ontario and BC, and i visit often, well the ontario ones at least.
i bought the i love canada set and my demonstrator keeps looking for some samples for me but she hasn't had much luck. i joke that i'm probably the only one of her customers to have bought it! i've used it in some scrapbook pages from my family reunion last summer. my canadian cousins love! my scrapbooking. so they inspire me to finish more pages every time i see them. i need to see them much more often!
next trip up i want to hit up a scrapbook store in the area. here, we have tons of stickers/embellishments and such for the US armed forces. but i would love to find some that work for my dad's photos. not sure if there are any out there, but a trip to a scrapbook store is seldom wasted for me!
i am also hoping for more SU stamps that i can use for my canadian family/photos.
Chelseacat, You certainly are welcome here. I have cousins who live stateside and have spent many happy hours stateside. I particularly love Alaska and Colorado. I wish all our American friends on SCS a Happy Fourth of July!
Great weather here in NS today! Went downtown for the festivities, with the family. Waiting for fireworks tonight - should be great!
I heard from my demo that the prices in the new catalogue would be quite a bit cheaper for the stamps anyway, due to the better CDN $ since the previous printing. Hope that is true. I want some of the bigger sets but $55 plus tax and shipping makes it "still on the wish list item"
I can't wait for the new catalog! My demo told me that it will just be for Canadians! I hated seeing the US prices in the other catalogs being at least half the Cdn prices! I will probably just want to buy even more!
Hope you had a great Canada Day! K :]
