I've a request from a neighbor to make her 4 cards in red or pink with hearts and ribbon, but she doesn't want them to look like valentines. Any ideas, fellow stampers? I am stumped! Thanks!

I did a card using the die cut inlay technique with strips of patterned and plain paper in shades of rose and red and complementary colors like soft green and baby blue. I die cut the hearts out of the paper strips "paper" and then replaced with solid colors for the card front. It's really cute! If the strips run horizontally, a ribbon would fit into that design really nicely, too.
Unless her definition of what a Valentine looks like is vastly different from mine, I don't see any way to meet all the criteria. Good luck and keep us posted. Inquiring minds want to know.

Hmmmm, maybe use hearts for blooms, like Border Builders or Pocketful of Posies (would need to adapt a little) or something with the Merci vibe? Hearts into butterflies? (could be lovely or dorky, that one ...) Sweet and Sassy or Sweet Shapes might give you something to play with. Also, Love Matters has some nice 'not valentines' possibilities. (these are all SU! sets, and while you might not have the exact set, they might give you an idea you can adapt.) Have fun. What a great challenge!

I think I would want to know what her definition of a "valentine look" is... because, it is easy enough to use hearts with different words. ( anniversary, love you, thank you you touched my heart etc) but, making them red and pink kinda makes them look like very traditional Valentines in my mind. so, I guess it will be what words you pair with the hearts to pull it off. and or what kind of hearts you use. IE if you pick a heart doily diecut that to me would look like a Valentine. so, maybe classic Heart shapes that you put the words stamped on simple classic hearts or cut a heart window and put something non Valentine inside to view.
I think I would want to know what her definition of a "valentine look" is...
Really good point. That's probably a good place to start. Maybe a conversation to find out a little more about what this person is hoping for.

How about using a dp bg and mix in non-traditional colors? Here's one I did where I embossed the dp. I think the scallop and ribbon take away from the valentine feel.
Here's another with small hearts over a large bg print dp -you could substitute ribbon for the paper strip
Here's another with a time theme embossed in the bg. The sentiment flag could be ribbon
I think this layout would work well if you replaced the twine with ribbon and subbed hearts for the circles.
Jennifer McGuire did a Faux Laser Cut technique using hearts that may be helpful:

Reason: Added embed code. To do this, when you're on YouTube, hit the sharing icon, then choose embed - you'll see the code to copy

Thanks! I'm going to try this. Maybe all ribbon - saw that somewhere on here.

I did find out she wants the inside to be blank as she will being writing notes to her friends on the inside. So sentiments on the outside won't work. Maybe I will use "hello" on one of them.

Are you both on Pinterest? Maybe she could send you some images that appeal to her?I cased this one off Pinterest for Valentines day- you could just drop the sentiment.
Here are 2 cards I made for my friend with her criteria. Can't see the ribbon on the red heart one. Haven't posted pictures in ages, and haven't made them part of a post ever, so wish me luck. I'll put them in my gallery too with some info. Thanks a bunch everyone who sent ideas.
