I use temporary glue from sticks for checking layouts, etc. and got to wondering, are there any glue sticks that are permanent and suitable for card-making and other paper crafts?
There are loads. Available on Amazon,is UHU & their own Basics brand, HERE. Office Depot,have a lot on that page. , Pritt, to name a few. Plus there are the 'craft' brands- Tim Holtz and Dyan Reavelys are both permanent.

Agree UHU is good, Ranger branded (not sure which manufacturer they use), others. I don’t use them unless I’m in an LSS card making and we’re racing through 5 cards in a short time, and do not know how they hold up long term.
Actually I don’t send most of those cards so should look at some older ones to see how they’re doing, though they haven’t been sent through the mail so haven’t been in cold/hot weather sitting in a truck somewhere, so maybe not the best test.
I use glue sticks all time on cards- basic acid free Elmer's. I've never had any problem, although I reckon cards I've given people years ago may have fallen apart...
When I need glue sticks, I use the photo safe / acid free ones from the dollar store. Two for a 1.25$ Canadian. They hold up great, better than any tape adhesives. Tape eventually degrades and loses its stickiness. Glue, provided you use the right kind, is far more permanent as long as it's not exposed to moisture.
Glue sticks are my favorite. I have items that are over twenty years old still intact. I use permanent glue sticks and not the washable school glue sticks. I use Scotch right now. Any brand would do great that is permanent.
I was watching Linda Israel on YouTube the other day. Beautiful talented mixed media artist. She was using Dollar Tree's Jot glue sticks on her creations. I went out and bought some. Oh my gosh! I love them. They are really nice glue sticks. I don't know about the permanency. The quality reminded me of sticker glue. Hope that helps.
Yes, glue stick pieces can be removed and repositioned for a short while - the more heavily you apply the glue, the longer the working time. If you put on a very light coat of glue it can set nearly instantly when you put the two pieces of paper together. Drying time is affected by relative humidity, so if you're in a very dry location glue sticks may not be for you.
Glue sticks arrived from Amazon and put to the test. All I've really done, so far, is glue some paper name plates over an old web address on the back of some cards.
The glue does seem permanent, but do not disturb it for at least 15 minutes or it doesn't stick at all.
The 22 gram tubes seem HUGE compared to other glue sticks (usually 6 grams) I've used.
Price is right at $ .64 each, but one must buy a minimum of 12, which might last me 14 life-times.
Not for precision glue application
Most cards aren't kept a long time, so I think this glue is safe for most greeting cards and other paper crafts.
