Default Embossing Powders Question

Hi all -
I'm very new to embossing so I'm wondering if I could get some advice. I'm looking to buy a bunch of embossing powder and not sure what to do about the detail and the regular. I really want to use color, but don't want to do the craft pad and clear EB if I don't have to (just what I need, more pads!). But, I also see that the colored EB doesn't come in the detail powder so can I use it on fine images? Just wondering, thanks!!

I was told that all I really needed was clear embossing powder. You can emboss in any color by using versamark and your classic pads.

When you use the regular ep instead of the detail, you lose some of the sharpness and detail of finer designs like toile blossoms. On designs that are bolder like Buds and Blossoms, it really doesn't matter which you use...
Oh, if you use word stamps it's MUCH better to use the detail powder so your letters come out clear (but for that you really just need black and maybe white).

Hope that helps!

New trick I learned from my demo this weekend. As long as your ink is wet, you can emboss it (don't have to use versamark)

Just ink up your stamp really good with your pad or pen, then huff to make it moist, stamp, then quickly pour embossing powder on it. We used night of navy ink with clear ep, then last night I used black in with clear ep which turned out, and white craft with clear ep which turned out.

Im sure this is old news, but it was new to me

It's new to me too - I'll have to try that out! Thanks for sharing!

I have had mixed luck with the classic pad embossing - some of my pads are just juicier I guess. But for those that are, it does work!

have you tried michaels? I know they have a lot of colored eb. I don't know if it is regular or detail. But it is worth a shot.

You can also ink your stamp with versamark, then go straight into your classic pad and you have colored embossing ink! The best part is, it doesn't seem to affect the classic pads at all. Yet another fabulous tip I learned here on SCS!
