Default Doodlebug Designs Christmas House pattern?

Did you see the adorable ad Doodlebug Designs has in the Dec/Jan Papercrafts! IT IS SO CUTE! If you should be able to view it here:

http://www.doodlebug.ws/viewIdeaDeta...0ea9f6daa20001

Anyway, I love that gingerbread houses are so popular in decorating this year, they are so whimsical and adorable! My dd and I just made a gingerbread house with Brownies this weekend and it turned out so cute (we used graham crackers and empty small milk boxes from school) Anyway, papercrafting them would be so fun and a great activity for the kids. Plus they would last for awhile is you packed them good. Does anyone have a pattern for the house itself? I checked on the Doodlebug website and didn't see anything. Thanks!

The doodlebug ads have just been rockin lately. The Halloween house was really cute too. It would be great if Doodlebug themselves provided a pattern. Hopefully someone out there has an idea on how to make these!

Yes, I noticed the Halloween house too! I am surprised they don't have a pattern on the site, it seems odd as the site lists everything they used to create it.

Here's hoping someone out there has a pattern so I don't have to try to come up with one on my own!!

It's VERY cute, I'm just not sure I could afford it! Did you see how many buttons, brads etc there are? The paper part would be OK. Is Doodlebug stuff cheaper than ours? Maybe SU! could come up with one.

I didn't figure that I would duplicate with all buttons and stuff, I figured that punches can simulate alot of that, I mean you can make "buttons" with a circle punch and the two hole punch. Even using stickers for the kids would be fun.

Anyway, I e-mailed Doodlebug and this is what I got back! Have fun!

Hi Crystal,

Thanks for your interest in our ad! We have a complete set of
instructions ,dimensions and a list of products used for each item.
Good Luck in creating your own village! :

Small red house:

The house was constructed from 1/4" foamcore. The front and back
walls
measure 6" tall, 3 1/4" wide at the bottom and 4 1/4" wide at the
widest point ( just under the roof ) To cut the roof angle - measure
down 2" from top sides and mark. Mark the top center and draw angled
lines from top to 2" side marks and cut. The two side walls measure 3
1/4" wide by 4" tall. Hot glue all four walls together in corners. One
half of the roof measures 3 3/4"h x 3 1/2"w, the other measures 3 1/2"
square. Overlap the longer piece at the peak so that both overhang
equally and glue into place. The front steps were constructed from 1/2"
foamcore. The bottom step is 1" deep by 1 3/4" wide. The top step is
1/2" deep and 1 3/4" wide. Stack on top of each other and glue in
place. Do not attach to house yet. It is easier to cover with paper
first and then attach. The chimney is constructed from 1/4" foamcore.
Cut three pieces of foam core measuring 1 1/4" x 2". Measure 3/4" up
from the bottom of the left side and make an angled cut on all three
pieces. Glue all three together. Wrap with striped paper. Cut a
rectangle of foamcore measuring 1 1/8" x 1 1/2" glue on the top of the
chimney. This gives a little overhang to add paper trim to. The smoke
from the chimney is made from white wire and three white 1/2" pom poms.
I used a piercing tool and made a hole through the pom pom then
threaded
the wire through it and glued into place. Then spray with spray
adhesive and glitter.
Pierce a hole into the chimney , add glue and push pom pom wire into
hole.

Supplies:

#1007 candy apple cardstock
#1042 lily cardstock (windows) 1 1/2" square
#1021 limeade cardstock (window grid)
#1240 limeade paper frills ( window planter box ) 1/4" x 1 1/2"
foamcore
glued under window and trimmed with frills
#1090 cheefrully christmas dots (door) 1 1/4" x 2"
#077 limeade brads (door knob)
#023 limeade sweet stripes ( porch )
#1692 limeade paper flowers ( wreath over front door )
red ribbon - unknown origin
#1245 lily white paper frills ( roof and eaves and chimney overhang )
#412 christmas buttons ( front of eaves )
#1091 cheerfully christmas stripe ( chimney )

Small green house:
The dimensions for this house are the exact same as the red

Supplies:

#1022 lemon lime cardstock
#1021 limeade cardstock ( windows 1 1/2" square ) and ( small front
window 1" square )
#1018 grasshopper cardstock ( door 1 1/4" x 2" do not attach yet )
#1042 lily white cardstock ( window trim, place door on top and trim
around)
#1245 lily white paper frills ( large flower for roof, scallop for
eaves
& chimney and 1 3/8" of trim under window )
#949 ladybug picnic ( window shutters cut two 1/2" x 1" fold two 1/2"
square scraps in half and place behind each shutter )
#1680 christmas round sequins ( eaves )
#072 ladybug brads ( eaves )
# 077 limeade brads ( eaves )
#093 lily white brads ( centers of flowers on roof )
#1166 christmas loopy stripes ( chimney )
white wire shaped into three swirls and glittered. Pierce three holes
into chimney top and glue into place.

Large Green House:

Also constructed of 1/4" foamcore. Cut two pieces of foamcore measuring
9" x 4 1/2". Find top center and mark, measure down 2" from left and
right sides and mark, cut from top center to both side marks making
roof line. Measure in a 1/2" from both bottom sides and mark. Draw two
diagonal lines from 2" roof mark to 1/2" bottom mark and cut both
sides. This makes the house wedge shaped. Having the widest top part 4
1/2" and the narrowest part (bottom) measure 3 1/2". Hot glue all four
sides as above. One roof piece measures 4"h x 4 3/4"w and the other 3
3/4"h x 4 3/4"w . One will overlap the other at the peak making the
overhang equal on both sides. Glue into place. The chimney is
constructed from 1/2" foamcore. Cut three pieces measuring 2 1/4" x 1
1/2".
On all left sides measure down 1 1/4" from the chimney tops and mark.
Cut all three on an angle from the 1 1/4" mark to the bottom of the
right sides making the roof angle. Cover the chimney with paper before
following the next step. Cut a 1 7/8" square from 1/4" foamcore and
glue to the chimney top for overhang to add paper trim to. Cut a 1/4" x
1 7/8" strip from 1/2" foamcore for the planter box. Do not attach
until
house and planter box are covered with paper. Using wire cutters, snip
legs off of six brads in various christmas colors. Cut three 1/2"
lenghts of silver craft wire and three 1" wires. Hot glue various
flower sequins to wires and brad caps for the flower centers. Arrange
and glue into planter box. Cut out three different sized small hearts
from white cardstock and glue to wire and glitter. Pierce a hole in the
chimney top center and glue into place.

Supplies:

#1021 limeade cardstock
#1042 lily white cardstock ( windows five 1 1/2" x 2", one arched for
front and door 2 5/8" x 1 3/8" )
#1007 candy apple cardstock ( window trim and door 2 1/2" x 1 1/4" )
#072 ladybug brads (flower centers and roof )
#077 limeade brads (flower centers and roof)
#078 grasshopper brads (flower centers, roof and door knob) door knob
is
pushed through small white flower sequin then small lime round sequin
and then pierced into door.
#093 lily white brads (flower centers and roof)
#1089 cheerfully christmas asterisks (porch)
#949 ladybug picnic dot (planter box and chimney)
#1245 lily white paper frills (chimney and eaves)
#1680 christmas round sequins ( roof )
#1674 christmas flower sequins (planter box)
#1042 lily white cardstock ( window trim ) place door on top and trim

Christmas trees:

The trees were made from styrofoam cones and then covered with
embellishments. We cut some larger ones down to make smaller sizes.
Some embellishments were glued directly to the tree others were pinned
using white glass head straight pins purchased at
Walmart and the heart shaped buttons were fastened with silver craft
wire looped and
Pushed through both button holes.

Supplies:
#1245 lily white paper frills (fringe)
#1689 ladybug paper flowers
#1674 christmas flower sequins
#1680 christmas round sequins
#412 christmas assorted buttons
#1697 lily white paper flowers
#1686 christmas square sequins
#348 red heart shaped buttons
#1692 limeade paper flowers
#453 ladybug monochromatic buttons
#456 limeade monochromatic buttons

snowman:

glue two 1 ” styrofoam balls together. Use black straight pins for
eyes. Make a scarf using #1605 limeade rick rack. Use 1/8” round dowels
for arms and cover with red glitter. Two red rhinestones were used for
the buttons.

Mailbox:

Cut a rectangle from ” foamcore measuring 5/8” x 1 1/8”. Cut a piece
of
white cardstock measuring 2” x 1 1/8”. Loop over foamcore and attach.
Using this piece as
a template to make the door and back piece. Cut a flag from red
cardstock and glue to
the side. Push white glass straight pin into the door for pull and hot
glue onto a 1/8” round dowel, 1 ” long, and paint lime green. Hot
glue dowel to the center of a 1 ”
round chip board circle (this will get covered with snow )

Lamp post:

The lamp base is made from a raw wooden thread spool from a craft store
( 1 ” tall ). The spool was painted white and wrapped with #1091
cheerfully christmas stripe paper.
A ” dowel painted white measuring 4 ” was glued into the center of
the
spool. Cut a 1/8” strip of red cardstock and candy cane stripe the lamp
post and glue into place. The lamp post top is made from a layer of ”
foamcore and a layer of ” foamcore. Make a template for the lamp post
by drawing a rectangle measuring 1 3/8” w x 1 ” h. Mark the top center
and measure ” down from both sides and mark. Angle from center to ”
side marks and draw a line. This is the roof line. Measure in from each
side ( bottom ) ” and mark. Make a line from the mark to the roof line
on each side. You should end up with a wedged house shape measuring
7/8” at the bottom ,1 3/8” at the widest point and 1 ” tall. Use this
template to cut a ” thickness and a ” thickness and glue them
together.
Then use the same template to cut out limeade #1021 front and back. Add
white cardstock windows and limeade grid. And do the same for the
sides. The roof is a piece of white cardstock 1” x 1 7/8” folded in
half and glued to the top.

The setting was make from 1/4 “ foamcore making lower rolling hills and
a higher set then gluing them to a foamcore base. The snow is white
cupcake sprinkles purchased from a bakers supply. Hot glue was used to
make the pathway barriers so that the sprinkles would not roll past –
creating a shoveled path. If you want to do this remember to create a
barrier around all four sides of your set so that the sprinkles are
contained.

Not so sure how quickly I will get to making one! I just thought it may be a fun thing to do over the holidays. We'll see. I don't have any foam core board around so I will have to pick some up. Have a great day everyone.

These creations are typically one of a kind, and done by their in-house paper engineer, who is a genius! I would love to meet that chick some day . . . Incredible work!

I dunno if there's a contest for booth display at CHA, but they would take 1st place hands down . . . Unbelievable detail!

Oh yeah! I don't know if you read through all the stuff they used to create this stuff, but the snow was made out of the sprinkles you buy in the cake decorating isle of the store-they used streams of hot glue to keep it all in place to create the "shoveled" walkways that you see. I would have just thrown some quilt batting down and called it good!

Somewhere I read the names of the 2 people who created the displays and it was a woman and a man. Of course they didn't have to worry about how much it cost for all those embellishments because they certainly had all the goodies at their disposal! But could you imagine how fun it would be to make your own entire village, in your own color scheme.....

Here is a Halloween Village that I made - it can be adapted to most any season. Patterened papers are adhered to card stock for the houses - then let your imagation run wild with stamping and embellishments - I used eyelets, scrappers floss, clips, buttons, etc.

Happy Thanksgiving and Stamping and Scrapping,

Sorry, but I just had to share! Out of the mouth of Babes!!! I'm printing all of these directions out, and my four year old comes into the room. "Oh boy Mommy these houses are so cute! Can we make some?" "It is going to be very difficult." I respond. "It's okay Mommy...We ARE Professionals!!!!", and then gives me a high-five! Where do they come up with this stuff!

Frankly, I think it will be difficult for me to do this project alone, but now that I know I have the "Professional" help of my four year old, it should be a piece of cake! LOL!

Thank you for sharing these wonderful directions Crystal! I adore their ads with these darling little houses. I can't wait to give this project a whirl!!! Happy Friday Everyone!
