Exclamation DON"T THROW AWAY YOUR SCRAP RUBBER!!

I have been reading about so many people throwing away the rubber when they trim their stamps. At the very first show I attended, the demonstrator told us to keep them. I now say the same thing at my show...here's why!

They make AWESOME pop dots. Just cut it to the size you need to give something dimension. Peel off the rubber and the paper, and the foam in the middle is your "pop dot". I just keep my scraps in a ziploc bag. One bag is lots, so then I throw away the rest. When you get low - order more stamps...lol.

I tried that and didn't like it - after a while they went very sticky and I couldn't bear to touch them! So now I just... throw them away! Sorry :(

Really??? I had never heard of that. I have had mine for about 7 months so far and have not had a problem. Maybe I will throw out old ones and keep the trimmings off the new stamps every once and awhile.

When I first started with SU (3 years ago, I think), the rubber separated pretty easily so they worked as pop dots. But about a year ago they changed something and the rubber doesn't separate like it used to.

Well - I have to work at them a bit, but I just use extra glue on the side where the rubber was. It saves me a lot of money, because I don't have people at workshops going through the reall pop dots like crazy. Also then I don't care how much they use.

Yup I noticed this too. I throw all my scraps out now b/c it's too time consuming to trim, peel, and glue them. I prefer the convenience of SU's dimensionals

For as often that I use pop dots, I will buy a box of them thank you.

I keep all of mine for my kids. They love to build "castles" out of them. I have them do it on a sheet of scrap paper and afterwards we just toss it. It keeps them occupied while I stamp.

I do use some for pop dots - but my favorite use is as a nose on Frosty! The orange rubber is perfect for a snowman nose!

Besides, if you use pop dots at your workshops, then your customers will use them and want to buy them! I, too, used to use rubber but don't like the way they don't stick after a while... I throw out the rubber and use popdots now too.

You can also make a cool background stamp with left overs too. Kind of a cobblestone look.

Another great reason! You can make really cool stamps! Check out this one by Sandhills Stamper from a challenge not too long ago. I copied it into my faves cuz I thought it was cool!

I use the long, thin pieces to lift the top layer of my "cut-away" cards.

Well - I live in an area where people are quite tight in the wallet. I would love to sell them pop dots too, but they look at me funny...lol. They won't even buy ribbon from me because they can get it at the fabric store for cheaper. It sucks, but at least I sell the best stamps...WOOHOO for that!

That's a good idea!

I have 3 1L jars full of scrap rubber. I have given BAGS away. I finally am starting to throw it out. I will likely let my kids go nuts with it one of these days. But, a little while ago, there was a thread on here that posted what their kids had done with the scrap rubber! Kids had made faces (on their own faces) with it and one 15-year-old made himself a tank-top all out of rubber scraps (stuck to his bare body!!!)! It was the best! I totally laughed out loud! So, I agree - do not throw away scraps - give the to kids so we can laugh at the pictures posted here on SCS!

I used to save them too, I have a huge red vines tub full of them that I never use. If anyone wants them..... let me know! When I first started stamping I thought they were great for making things pop, now I would definitely rather the dimensionals.

BE CAREFUL

If you are like me though.... been stamping for years and years.... after time, this weird color bleeds through to your CS on the front where you placed the "pop up" piece of rubber, the exact same shape. This happened to me quite a few times - believe me - if you have old cards, or people decide to keep them, they don't preserve as well...... I don't do it anymore - worth the expense to me.... .just FYI......

Here's a link to the DIY Stamps thread where people were making cards with handmade stamps... mostly using scrap rubber.

Here's my use of scrap rubber turned into a background stamp:

Now I'm going to have to make little ones for my Everyday Flexible Phrases! What a great idea!
