I'm just NOSY, and a SAHM this week, as I'm not teaching because of Spring Break.
So, I'm posting this question, and hoping that I do NOT receive any blistering comments and/or emails regarding this post...
BEFORE I ask the question, I want to give you a bit of background....
I have ROTFLMBO to BAD SHERRY's work for quite a while now. And, there are MANY others, including other Dirty Girls who have a wicked sense of humor. I ENJOY a HUGE laugh. And, because I have raised a VEGAN, a VEGETARIAN, and semi-vegie,(he eats fish), I find it sometimes FUNNY when people make fun of ANYTHING food related....
BTW...Being a dairy farmer's Great Grand-daughter and Grand-daughter, I'm a dyed in wool MEAT EATER! I LOVE a big Rib Eye Steak cooked medium rare smoothered in A-1! PLEASE NO EMAILS ABOUT THAT!!! LOL!
I laughed like a MAD SCIENTIST, (Please NO EMAILS ABOUT scientists!), when I saw the new There She Goes set, and am wondering what OTHER people thought!
I can find humor in most anything! Though occasionally I've seen things that made me go "hmmm..." because the humor didn't translate as easily as some. But in direct answer, yes, I try to find humor where it's obvious humor was intended.
I saw the possum card you made with this set, and I totally chuckled. Then I thought, "Who'd ever make those stamps?" And now I've seen them! They're here, and they are pretty funny! I wish I was more of a color-er, b/c I can appreciate the humor and the style...and that's coming from a vegetarian. :p

You know...I thought the TOILET with tulips and the GROWN WITH LOVE sentiment were HILARIOUS!
I wonder...do you use chalks? I colored the toilet with chalks last night and it looked pretty good... Okay...Let me clarify! I colored the toilet IMAGE from the set with chalks! My real toilet is ALREADY pink! LOL!
I don't understand the question. Am I being dense??
Here's the QUESTION...sorry about all the gibber babble!

LOL! I'm glad you didn't didn't color your actual toilet! And it isn't that I can't color -- I do ok -- I'm just a bit lazy!
Oh No Not A-1! I thought is was really fun and clever. A creek runs through my backyard and between the raccoons and the opossums that roam around at night, I could think of quite a few neighbors who would get a kick out of this set! You know what would have been funnier, if the opossums eyes were still open! Heheheee! (NO E-Mails Please)
I just looked at this set - it is hilarious!!! I love the toilet flower pot!
Laura, I made a card with it, and posted it on my blog with a TRUE story...I got so many emails, OVER 400 about it...It was too funny! Some were NOT NICE! I shrugged and laughed my way through them! LOL!:-D

Now see....I have an opossum living in my laundry room. He scares the BLEEP out of me on a daily basis! The feral cats in our neighborhood steer clear of my laundry room! LOL!

My neighbor had a opossum who somehow came through her plumbing and was in her toilet...could you make card with the opossum in the toilet and put google eyes on it!

Have you been reading my emails???? I swear, I wrote one to the owner of TSG, and told her some "possum" card ideas, and that was one of them! LOL! Seriously, though, I have a LIVE one coming soon! LOL!;)

You've got to be kidding...? I don't eat much meat, but good grief, it's supposed to be funny.

OH...I was talking about the toilet card! !;)
The possum card got a few nasty comments, but I deleted them from my blog! One totally, didn't READ my post, and just went a bit off target with a comment about hunting in West Virginia...And that not all West Virginians are poor...Well, where I lived, they ALL were! LOL
O - I'm sorry you got some not so nice emails. The set is not exactly my taste, but certainly not offensive. Given to the right person, I could see how they'd be funny.
I have always loved your cards, Faith. You were the first stamper I started "stalking". By the way, I spent part of my childhood in West Virginia, too. And also walked to school in the snow - uphill both ways.
I am so tempted by this set. I have the best memory from my nephew's senior musical - Oklahoma (keep reading, it is related to the possum). They had a really funny guy in one of the roles (I think it was Ado Annie's father) come strolling across stage carrying something. Since the script failed to adequately explain what he was supposed to be doing/saying with this thing he was carrying, each performance, he ad-libbed his own line. It had to be different each time because after each performance, the person in charge would come up to him and say "You can't say that again" and this guy would oblige. Hang on, here's comes the possum part. On the last performance, he comes strolling across the stage with what looked like road kill and with a perfectly straight face said "Possum....the other, other white meat" (yes, he said "other" twice). I thought we were going to p.o.p. we were laughing so hard.
I LOVE the possum set and I am buying it. It has a deep personal meaning for me and my husband and a few friends. We have a nature preserve in our neighborhood and we catch possums all the time. I love tracking and catching the things! We take them up the road and release and guess what? They come back for more.
Ok, maybe I'm slow...but what is the joke behind the possum? I apologize for asking a really dumb question but I've looked at the set and just can't figure it out!
I need to add that I'm not offended by it at all but I just really don't get the full humore behind it. Probably just me, huh?
Oh, Faith...I subscibe to your blog via email and I LOVE the card you made with the toilet and the story about your old neighbor! I think it's awesome that your former father-in-law would go with you to buy a pink toilet! We all need a FIL like that!

I'm not offended by the set, but it doesn't interest me at all. IF (unlikely) I had the right person to send something like that to, I may look again ...

Oh! Thanks for the kind words!
The joke is :
Image: possum in a skillet
Sentiments: You're Invited
To a Home cooked meal!
or
Sentiments: Possum
The other white meat
Or
Sentiments: Tastes Like Chicken
Thanks for explaining! I actually get it now...can you say slow??? (in referance to my getting these jokes) LOL! I like the one about being invited over for dinner.
I'm not the least bit offended by any of these. It's all meant in good fun! Life is too short to take these things too seriously!;)

Ok I laughed so hard at this set......I work for a Public Works Department and well one of my "guys" tasks is to pick up the critters that don't quite make it across the road and it's usually quite the joke about what we are cooking for lunch that day!!
Since you asked -- I didn't find it offensive, but it isn't appealing to me.
My sentiments exactly! I don't think I'd use it at all. I buy sets that I can pretty much use for anyone on any occasion. These are too "way out there" for me!
I love puns and think humor is the best medicine (I'm a nurse and I try to keep humor in the workplace!). I chuckle when I see these types of images but probably won't buy the set. I do really like the flower 'pot' though! :-)

I don't find it offensive either. I also don't have a desire to own it because I would have no use for it. I do however think that it is great that a company is not afraid to make sets like this for those who have a use for them and can make such wicked, warped and funny cards. There are too many companies that all make the same thing. This set is definately out of the box thinking.

Faith - but I noticed that this week you are a SAHM mom - and I wanted to congragulate you on your full professorship!!!! Forums at Splitcoaststampers
Here - I am a full professor at a local private university. I have an elementary school age child. I am the caregiver for my dying mother. I am also the responsible party for my Alzheimer's ridden father. I have a SU! business and hold weekly stamp camps. I babysit my sister's ill children, weekly. I garden. I have 11 pets! I'm a Cub Scout leader. I'm on 5 design teams. I read, grade papers and design quilts. However, that said, I'm totally in love with my best friend, my FABULOUS husband. Without him, I could NEVER do it all.
However, and THIS IS MY PERSONAL choice, I spend my "spare time" on SCS. I LOVE it here! And, the SCS community is WONDERFUL. The stampers here CARE about one another. We send RAK's, we comment on each other's cards, we are the shoulder to cry on, and this is the place to get inspiration
Congragulations Faith on all that you do!! I was wondering what you taught at university - is it Art related??? You are really amazing!! I don't know how you do it all........... I know that I sure couldn't!!! Great work - and thanks for all of the time you put into commenting too!! I know that I appreciate as I am certain many others do!
As for the humour - I found that set to be quite humourous - but I'm not sure who I could send those card to....but they are cute!
