Do you think SU with go to clear stamps?
Has anyone wondered if SU will go to clear stamps? I love the clear stamps. They are so much easier. I really wish they would switch to clear. Does anyone think they will?

This has been a topic of discussion for quite a while whether they will go clear or go unmounted. I seriously doubt that they go clear. I think it's more likely that at some time they have an unmounted option, but stay with red rubber. JMO.

I am a huge fan of red rubber and hope that they don't entertain the thought of switching. Unmounted...do it! They need to be flexible. It would be great to have that option. Don't get me wrong acrylic/clear are great and I have plenty, but I prefer the great impressions and durability of rubber and will always purchase rubber when I have the option.

I'm with Sheryl, I think there is a better chance of them offering an unmounted option than ever offering clear stamps. For one, their inks just aren't formulated to work well with clear stamps, two it would involve entirely different suppliers, warehouses, etc. As much as I would love to see SU go with clear stamps, it would just be too cost prohibitive.
Now unmounted, is an entirely different thing. They wouldn't have to change a thing. Just let the warehouse people pick up the stamps and stickers and leave the blocks of wood and clam shells in the warehouse, as easy as that. Now I'm not saying go completely unmounted, just give me the option of paying for those things or not. If people want to woodmounted, great, it is the current catalog price. If you want unmounted, that is fine too, all they ship is the stamps and the stickers and you pay 30 percent less(or whatever). I still would have to pay the same 10 percent shipping but it would cost them less to ship the box, so they would even SAVE money. What's there not to like?
Will it happen, probably not!

I think it's easier to see where to stamp. I am not a very experienced stamper, so I need to practice and more practice with the rubber. I don't like having to use my stamp-a-ma-gig (sp?)

I hope SU goes unmounted, I hate paying for the wood when I don't use it, and given the limited budget most of us are working with, an unmounted option will allow us to purchase more stamps : )

i love wood mounted rubber!
i am glad that there are so many companies that we can all find what we love!
i don't like clear or unmounted rubber stamps but i also don't expect other companies to switch the way they do things just for me or others who prefer wood mounted rubber. there are plenty of images i like but i pass on because they are either clear or unmounted...
i also think that if SU! were to offer the option of mounted or unmounted the warehouse space for stamps would have to double, one slot for mounted and one slot for unmounted. in the end it would cause more price increases.
this is just MY 2¢ worth... please don't flame me!

They might possibly go unmounted - although we've got the option not to mount now, so why change anything? I'd say they definitely won't go to clear because they don't work too well with the SU inks, so they'd have to reformulate them all. Don't see that happening .....

I have never unmounted any of my SU stamps, but I can't imagine dealing with taking the adhesive foam off of the rubber. What a pain. Again, not something I have experienced but that seems like a hassle and waste of materials to me. (Tossing wood, removing adhesive foam and purchasing/adhering cling mount) Kudos to those who do it to save space...I'm just not that motivated. lol! The unmounted option is there, but there is work and cost involved for the customer. Just random thoughts...not trying to be critical or anti-SU.

Sure hope not. Do not like clear stamps or unmounted stamps of any kind. There is nothing like real rubber and a wood mount for a perfect impression!

I am new to stamping and all of the sets I've bought I have not mounted them and use them with my clear acrylic blocks. It has worked ok. I just don't see the need for all the space that the wood blocks take up. I love clear stamps too I wish they would change them too.

I am with Mamis Mama. I have worked with the clear and the rubber. I love the rubber by far. I love the detail and the quality. I also love the wood. I don't necessarily believe that clear stamps are more cost effective either. I have run into some that didn't last very long or I wasn't happy with the results. I do though like the clear blocks when it comes to individual lettering.
I also agree with CTab that if SU went clear I would no longer be a demo.

I just wish they'd have the option to NOT receive the wood blocks. While it would be great to also get a price break if one chose "no" to the blocks, just having the choice would be acceptable to me. (Although I'd also like to receive just the rubber without the cushion too.)
I don't know if I have a preference of clear to rubber. Hmmmm.... I suppose it depends on the quality of the clear stamps. If they are a good photopolymer (think PTI), then I'd probably choose clear -- if there was a choice.
Blocks or no blocks, that's the choice I'd like to make.

I also would like the option of no blocks/no boxes, although I don't buy that many stamps from SU these days.
I would bet money (yikes! did I say that? stamping budget money!?!) that SU will NOT ever go to clear stamps. But I do hope they wake up and smell the rubber, and offer us a choice. If they went to clear stamps, you could knock me over with a feather.
Personally, I'm an equal opportunity stamp lover: I do have wood-mounted (Thomas Kinkade, A Muse, Penny Black, House Mouse), cling-mounted, rubber only, clear. It's the image that counts. But for space and expense, my preference as a consumer is without blocks.

I hope they don't go with clear stamps, either...the rubber stamps give a much better impression, IMO. An unmounted option would be fine for those people that like it, but I like my wood blocks!

Don't know if anyone has or not, But I have never contacted any of the other stamp companies that do clear to please go to rubber and wood.
Those companies do what they do, just like SU does what they do
I guess a lot of us are curious as WHY SU even should change, or why you would want them too. If you do not like rubber and wood, there certainly are a lot of companies out that do not do rubber and wood so you have lots of options.
I think SU is wise enough to know that IF they did change, there would be so many demos quiting that it would be unbelievable.

I prefer my wood mounted stamps to my clear ones. My wood ones are right there is plain site and I don't have to dig through binders or cd cases to find what I want. I also think rubber gives me a better image.

Shelli has said that there are no plans for the foreseeable future to ever go clear. Thank GOODNESS! I already dislike unmounted stamping systems, but clear stamps? Blech. Don't like them, won't use them.

The only thing I would like SU to do is to offer the option to buy the stamps without wood.
I still mount all my SU stamps on the wood they come with, and love them, but if the option were there (and if it were cheaper!) I would totally go unmounted with them.
But if they never change that's fine with me. The beauty of this industry is that there are LOTS of options out there - definitely enough to suit each and ever stamper's needs!!

I LOVE rubber, wood mounted stamps. If SU! went clear it would make them just another stamp company. I, personally, don't think they need to change
anything. If it ain't broke...don't fix it!

I often feel like I am alone in this...
so nice to read the posts so far
I think clearstamps are like buying paintbrushes one hair at a time!
Overall,
except for a couple of alphasets and some well-designed two/3/4 step sets of very HIGH quality... which I value, use and love...
I find that they are largely a pita to take care of/keep track of in a family home.
plus, once they are stored it is hard to find them among the well proportioned woodblocks...
a fact that may be solved with better lighting in the basement stampcave...but still...
I have been steadily mounting the clear stamps I do have...
having a "handle" on my "brushes" keeps them from "blowing away"
ie going up the vaccuum!
really, IMHO it is like Wonderwoman's Invisible Jet...
why would you want one?
where on earth do you park it...?
it is invisible!
but that said, su seems to like to dabble in so many things at once these days so it is not out of the realm of possibility...
sigh.

I hope they never go clear, but I would love an unmounted option if it wouldn't make things more expensive. I have unmounted all 80 plus stamp sets that I own, and when I get new ones, they go straight onto ezmount and into cd cases. The wood blocks sit on top of my cabinet with nowhere to go. So sad.

I hope they do not go clear...I don't like clear as much because I don't seem to get as crisp an image. I do hope they offer unmounted, since that's much better for me (space-wise).

I totally agree - I think the wood mounted are easier to handle and I rarely have any problem getting the image stamped where I want it. I also think the SU rubber stamps are much clearer and easier to stamp than the clear.

Well, the question was whether we thought SU would go to clear, so I'll address that.
Maybe. It's a money thing, not a love thing!!!
They have a large base of demos and customers who are fiercly loyal and spend a lot of $$ on wood mounted stamps. I do not see SU abandoning its base. (sounds political!!)
On the other hand, there is a lot of competition out there from clear, which is taking some customers who might buy from SU, away from SU.
So maybe if SU felt that it had to offer a few clear sets, alphabets maybe??, SU might offer a few sets.
In other words, I have no idea!

I really don't like clear stamps at all. I started to unmount my SU stamps then realized I prefer wood mounted, and remounted them. I love the high quality rubber of SU stamps!

As someone already stated this is a topic that has been discussed before.
I really doubt Stampin' Up! would ever go to Clear Stamps.
But it would be nice if they offered Unmounted Rubber stamps along with their Wood mounted Rubber stamps.

I would love the option to purchase unmounted on cling foam. I have no need for the blocks or clamshell boxes....but I think this is wishful thinking. As someone else stated here, if you think about it SU already offers an 'umounted' option--the customer mounts the rubber/foam stamp image onto a wood block provided by SU.
But boy oh boy would I love the option to purchase unmounted on cling foam only.
