I made a bunch of cards for both of grandmothers for Christmas last year. I did not sign the backs of the cards originally but my grandmother had me stamp the backs of the cards later and everyone else said I should stamp the back of the cards.
Not sure if this helps but this was my experience.
I stamp the back of my cards with "Handmade", but I don't sign my name (I actually used an exacto knife to cut off the word "by" underneath "handmade" on the stamp I use).
maryscraps03....When I give a group of cards to someone (I don't sell them) for their personal use, I just put my logo on the back (a single paw print). I don't put my name or contact. I don't feel a need to advertise since I am not a business.
I tried just my initials,& didn't like it at all. I now put a cute stamp on the back. For non-sympathy type cards, I use my "Got Chocolate?" stamp alot. Seems to be my mantra lately. Otherwise a tiny flower works for me.
I have a nice "Handmade By" stamp that I use on the back of my cards. I sign them all with my first name, Annette. This goes for cards I send as well as cards made in a set for gifts.
If you watch people open any kind of card, handmade or purchased, they all usually turn it over and look at the back. If it's blank, it doesn't look finished to me.
At Christmas, I used my small oval Nestie, metallic cardstock and this stamp to make "hang tags" to put on hand sewn and crocheted items I made for gifts.

I gave my sister a set of monogrammed notecards for Christmas (she's planning to move to the West Coast), and "signed" the backs with my personalized SU! stamp. Hey, Hallmark puts THEIR name on the back of the card, so why shouldn't I? ;)

I have a handmade with love stamp I use for my family members only where I stamp on the back of the card.
All others I always sign my initials and year--09. I usually try a pretty coordinating ink color to sign my initials.
Mine is different for each card. But recently I made my DIL a box of different occasion cards and didn't put anything because her parents aren't exactly fans of ours and I know if she wanted to use one of the cards for one of her parents they wouldn't not appreciate the fact that it was made by me. Sad, but, that's the way some people are. My DIL appreciated my consideration but I know she is embarrassed by her parents behavior. Also, one thing I learned: when I find a real "keeper" card that I make, I do up several of them. I was stamping the handmade thingy and then signing my name and year on it. Just went to use one recently and discovered that I had made the card in 07. Decided it gave a bad impression. Luckily, 07 was easy to change to 09 so not a prob in this case, but now I don't stamp the back until I am ready to use it. I like the one comment on here that she just stamps "Handmade" when giving cards as a gift.
I have a card with my name on it that I use. I do not make cards for many people though, the ones I do like to send handmade cards and appreciate the stamp. I had them made at http://www.paperangel.com/store/crafters.html
and am very happy with them. If you spend enough you get a few free stamps!

I often give a pack of cards as a gift. And yes, I do put a label with my contact details and the name I use as a *company* name on them. But I don't actually sign them.
I have a fantastic hero arts "handmade limited edition stamp" I use on the back of cards, I don't usually sign them though. I don't use the 1/1 part of the handmade stamp as I often make two of the same card.
