So I got this email from Viva Las Vegastamps about this huge sale. *and oh my heck it's huge LINK*
So I bought a "Two pounds of rubber" and it came with other grab bags and stuff.
I never buy grab bags though. I hope it's at least half awesome stuff. I figure I can use the rest for RAKS and Hostess Gifts and all. But honestly just the FUN of going through all that rubber!
So I wonder, does anyone buy grab bags? Do you find it fun or frustrating?
I signed up for some swap where they are mailing around a huge box of unmounted stamps and when it gets to your house you take out and put in then mail it to the next house on the list, so THAT should be awesome fun too.
I'm all excited. It's new to me! haha.

I purchased two grab bags from VLVS some time ago because they were on sale at a great price, and since I never had much luck in the past with other companies bags I figured even if I only got one or two stamps it was still a good deal. Well I got alot more stamps that I actually use (!) than anticipated, which made me happy! I believe VLVS has a die swap so if you do receive some you don't want you can get with other VLVS customers and swap them around.
I just got my Grab bag from Inky Antics, and I have to say I liked 90% of the rubber I got!! The big mounted one was a cute snow angel!!
I got another grab bag a couple of months ago from someone going out of business (Can't remember the name) and the majority of them were great too! My daughter picked out half of them from me!
The only thing I don't like, is having to mount them myself with either the EZ Mount or the TIO&O. (I'm trying both ways)
I'm always a sucker for a deal!!!

I bought grab bags like crazy when I was first building my stamp collection. Nowadays I HAVE to be more selective; it's dictated by the storage space.
VLVS will have some stinkers in the bags, but you get so many stamps that you can afford to throw out a bunch. Some may be vulgar, and you might want to find out what the words say before you gift them to somebody!
Nowadays I occasionally buy bags now from companies, but I look at the kind of stamps they offer and ask myself if I would like even the most undesirable of the lot. I prefer artsy style; If I'm seeing a bunch of teddy bears hugging hearts I run for the hills!
I also don't spend any time or supplies on mounting them, just use double-sided tape or Tack and Peel (or is it Peel and Tack?).
I loved my Inky Antics grab bag. I'm just starting collecting stamps so I bought from Inky Antics, Sideshow Stamps and Rubber Trouble. The least I liked were rubber trouble because I felt that they weren't too deeply etched. Sideshow stamps were kewl and I got some pirate ones which I immediately used to make a card for my boyfriend.
Thanks for the announcement, I'm off to buy a 2 pound grab bag and one of those $50 ones with all sorts of supplies.
I did some on their last sale and got some not so great(to my taste), but a lot of them I liked or at least they challenged me to step out of my comfort zone. A friend of mine ended up with the rest to do with as she wanted to and she has come up with some great ideas.

Nope. I have enough crap that I bought because I really wanted it, thought I liked it, and haven't used it yet. I don't even wanna imagine the repercussions of buying stuff I have no clue of whether or not I'm going to like even a smidge of . . . yikes!

I've bought a few. VLVS being one of them. My only complaint is how many duplicates I got (it did say it might contain some duplicates but in my case it only included about 6 stamps in the second set that weren't already in the first set). So I hosted a round robin and traded some of them. Still have more though somewhere. Geesh...I need to quit buying rubber stamps (I haven't used everything I've gotten) and instead I need to spend my $$ on copics and nesties!
And yes, check the sayings and images from VLVS because some of them can be a little (or a lot) off color. I don't mind that sort of stuff...but some people may be offended. They have a section of just adult stuff (if that does interest you).
Yep, I have bought grab bags before. I got them from Endless Creations ( here is a link http://www.shopec.com/?mainURL=/stor.../Bargains.html )
I think when I got it, it was only $5 dollars. It had some great basic sayings. The only problem is I don't know how to use the unmounted rubber. Any hints??
The other place I used to get "grab bags" from is Marcos Paper. It was a box rather than a bag, but it was filled with paper. $5 for a huge box, like a large shoe box, filled with a variety of stuff. Lots of white scraps, but some gold papers, florals. I have had it for years and still use it. If nothing else the scraps are great for practice pieces. More than worth the $5.

Oh my goodness, a grab bag! I haven't had a grab bag since I was a little girl!
But I don't think I would ever buy a grab bag UNLESS it was one where I loved all of the images. But if I love all of the images then I usually own them all so I wouldn't need to buy a grab bag.
Ramble, ramble, ramble......
So yeah, I guess I wouldn't buy one.
Let us know how it turns out once you get all that rubber Erin!
I have purchased grab bags of unmounted rubber from individualsellers (not manufacturers) on eBay. Usually I only bid on the auctions where a photo shows some of the stamps. Always had good luck ....shared with my friends ....threw a few off-color jokes in the garbage.
But, once I joined a round robin rubber swap here on Splitcoast. Most of the gals ahead of me on the list were trying to get rid of all the "odd" images from VLV that they couldn't use. I doubt I will do that again.
Nope, I wouldn't buy a grab bag. I have enough trouble using the stuff that I've bought and liked that I couldn't imagine paying money for stuff I may or may not like, no matter how good of a deal it is.

I just bought 2 grab bags from sideshowstamps.com and they came with the best stamps. I almost wish i would have just bought the large grab bag instead of the small ones. I got the small regular grab bag and the retro grab bag and love them. I got lots of tiki stamps, a couple halloween stamps, some cute retro characters and some other great stuff. I say if you really like a stamp company go for the grab bag.
I've bought a few grab bags and have good and bad luck. The last one I bought was from Art Gone Wild - I got 30 stamps and only about 15 are ones that I would use. But considering that it works out to $2 per stamp taking into consideration of the ones I will give away, its still a bargin. In the future I will only buy from my favorite companies.
I bought a grab bag from http://www.angi-b-co.com/ (going out of business). I did scroll through her entire web site looking at all her images before I decided. Once I got the stamps, I loved all the cutesy and country images. I found my opposite (well, she found me) who also bought an Angi B grab bag but disliked all of the stamps I loved, and liked all the ones I disliked and we traded. Awesome! That has been the only time I've ever bought a grab bag.
By the way, if any of you order from Viva Las Vegas Art Stamps (I ordered the double-side tape; it's a great product!) and get an email confirmation, be sure to read the small print at the bottom. Normally, you get the standard stuff about return/exchange policy, etc.---not here, you will be rolling on the floor with laughter. Leave it to Stampo!
I've never bought a stampin or scrappin grab bag because I'm fussy and because I may get doubles of something I already have. But, at the mall, my daughter and I love buying grab bags from Hello Kitty -- cute stuff and usually we get a bag with at least on item worth more than we paid for the whole bag. I can see the appeal of grab bags -- it's like Christmas, opening something, not having a clue what you might get.

I tend to not buy any kind of grab bag because I am so dang picky. However, Viva Las Vegastamps is my "go to" place for unusual stamps! I bet a grab bag from them would be an adventurous package opening! LOL Some of the weird stamps that I purchased from them was a naked butt, two naked people running (more cartoon style and you don't see any "parts"), etc. I also bought a cool stamp that is like a round label that says "Do not bend, photos enclosed."
The nice thing about grab bags is that since the rubber is new, they do make good gifts.

that's what I figure Kimberly. It would be FUN. I got HUGE ones, 2lbs garenteed no repeats. So I should have at least a good number I like. My friend Kim will take second pick, then I'll swap/gift/RAK/hostess gift the rest. But I figure it will be worth some $$ just to have all of them to look through.
Also I like a lot of VLVS, but only have a hanful of them.
Of course I'm a twit and there are like 5 that I REALLY hope are in my bag. Why didn't I just buy those and the bag so I'd know I'd have them? Well because if I did that you KNOW they'd be in my grab bag!! haha.
