We have RAK members from all over the world. I remember seeing someone from Israel join in one of the last batches and we have a fair number from the UK already as well as Canada, India, Germany, Australia and New Zealand.
Remember, it's all voluntary so if someone doesn't have the resources to mail internationally, they don't have to.

Wish RAK is the absolute best and is so addictive! Some nights I feel like stamping but I am rather low on my creative mojo, so I grant wishes. I have been a member since February 2008 and I have granted almost 250 wishes. So that means that I have 250 wishes that I can request from others. I have 2 photo boxes filled with wishes that other people have granted for me. It is so wonderful to get some "happy mail" that is not a bill!!! It really can lift your spirits after a long day at work.
So then I needed to find a way to use some of those granted wishes so I joined BRAK (Birthday RAK). Every month I receive an assignment of about 5-10 RAK members that I need to send birthday card out to. It feels good to help make someone's birthday extra special.
Now when I go stamp shopping, I need to decide if it is something that I will really use often or should I just wish for it. It really does help with the stamp budget. Well at least until you discover a new company and you need everything that make, like Papertrey Ink for me.
My DH thinks it is weird that I am constantly sending images and cards to people I don't know. I know them, they are my "virtual" SCS friends!!! You will need lots of postage stamps, envelopes and Georgia Pacific white cardstock (that's the most economical cardstock for stamping your images on, from Wal-Mart for $5.48 for 150 sheets) but that is your only investment to have so much fun. Come join us!!
Okay........ I just bit the bullet, and signed up- WHOO HOO! I have always been intrigued, and after reading this forum- well, it just sounded too fun! I'm looking forward to this! Thanks for all the wonderful information ladies, this is why I prowl the forums to become better informed about what SCS has to offer! Thanks again!

I just requested membership. I am very excited. I am a part of a RAK list that must be "unofficial", so it's been a good starting point. I am excited about the W-RAK though! How fun!!

Yup, the term RAK has been around for years. Original quote, “Practice random acts of kindness and senseless acts of beauty,” is attributed to Anne Herbert.
The concept is similar to the term "pay it forward" from the movie by that name. If we all randomly do good for each other, we make the world a better place.
I received a PM on 7/16 requesting all of my info but have not heard anything since. I understand it can take a while due to the volume of requests. How long does it typically take to know if you've been accepted?
I'm really looking forward to being able to send some of my creations to people other than my family and a few friends.

IT IS VERY IMPORTANT that upon receipt of a RAK, please post a THANK YOU to the sender so they know their greeting arrived. Scan it if you wish, and upload the card in the RAK gallery for all of us to enjoy.
Please do this; it's so disconcerting to not know if your card reached its destination.

Can I just ditto that.
Posting from overseas, I've never knowingly had post that didn't arrive when I was in contact with the recipient and able to check - but a lot of RAKs I never know because I don't hear a word. And I don't really like to PM and check, so I just leave it...And if I'm honest, it is more off-putting than just disconcerting for me. There are times I feel what's the point  - but so far I am still sending them out.
Oh No!!! I have been caught! I am one of those awful people who receives a card and forgets to say thanks. Then again, I never look at the list of thank you messages. Maybe that's why it is too easy for me to forget.
I had better start sending PM thank you notes... today!!!
P.S. If I replied to your post with "Do you like my hat?" Would you know that your post reminded me of that (associate of) Dr. Seuss' book "Go, Dog, Go?" I'm a little weird, I know - so many years as a homeschool mom changes one's outlook!

I LOVE that book. I still have my very battered copy that I got the best part of 40 years ago. My favourite picture is the one out in boat on the sea. And the last page. There is a little hole worn in it, somehow!! I read it a lot when I was minding a friend's child a couple of years back. Happy memories.
Sorry for going off topic
Thank you for allowing me to be part of RAK. Hopefully this will give me some of the needed motivation to get some card out. I'm looking forward to it.
I am disappointed, I guess I am not apporved for the RAK group. Maybe I didnt give a good enough reason or something when I requested to join. It still says on my user control panel that i requested to join 2 weeks ago.
I can't imagine that they wouldn't accept you, Beth. It's possbible with the summer and holidays and so on that it's taking a little bit longer. Keep checking, and I'd be very surprised if you don't find that you are in soon.
Nope, still not in, but I won't get disappointed yet if there is still hope. I guess I was bummed last night seeing all the people post who had gotten in and I still had not. Sorry for the bad attitude!
What day did you request to join? I know someone said to do it before Tuesday a few weeks ago (the last time they did the membership thingy) so maybe you'll be accepted in the next round.
you may still be in! i just got the pm that wanted my name and stuff! keep waiting..i bet you will get one soon!
I got the same PM, yesterday or the day before. I'm sure after this thread started there were tons of requests to join! Sounds fun... I just never bothered to research it more before now.

Ah-ha! I figured it out... You have Private Messages turned off... so when we send you the invite you don't get it! If you go to the Quick Links menu and then Edit Options you can either
Enable Private Messaging
or...
Receive Private Messages only from Buddies and Moderators
Then we can send you the message that tells you what info we need from you!

I have received PMs from onelightningchic asking about why she has not yet been approved. But since her PMs are coming and going okay, there must be another issue. Could you look into that one too? Please?

I believe Gina has me on track now for this. She finally got my request for membership to come through. I am now 'patiently' waiting for the new list to come out )) I cant wait. I think it may actually take this time. Thanks for everything ladies. I know you all volunteer your time.
Yep, I'm pretty sure Gina is going to catch Ellen this time... Invitations went out this week so if all goes according to plan the update is coming next week--I'll try to remember to post here for all of you following this thread. I know it is hard to keep checking the RAK link all the time!

I think the "reason" is there more to prevent spammers from requesting membership (but that's just my guess). We don't have any criteria for accepting of denying (basically everyone who applies gets in).
Two of the more frequent problems we run into are requestors not having private messaging turned on so we have no way to contact them and requestors not replying to the PM (in which case they are eventually denied after about 2 times through the process but they can always re-request membership). Very rarely, a request will magically disappear into the great byte bucket in the sky (which may have been what happened to Ellen). Even more rarely requestors will hit the radio button to join the group but forget to press the "join group" button (or vice versa) so we never get the request.
I think (but don't quote me on this since priorities may have changed with the acquisition by NameMedia) that the wonderful SCS admins were talking about revamping the whole group membership process. As it stands now, all the "official" info about the groups is within the group threads, but you have to belong to read it so it's really hard for newbies to get a feel for how each group works before joining.
