I've got a Big Kick (basically same machine as a Big Shot) and I can use Sizzix dies, CB dies and embossing folders, Nesties and even Lasting Impressions Brass stencils just fine in it.
Well, guess I'll have to wait and actually see it before I can be excited. I don't have any type of die-cut machine and don't know how to use one. It's all I can do to come up with money for paper and stamps, much less a Big Shot and dies! :(

Is anyone else at work (like I am) and is stalking this forum and is completely distracted from working?
on the grounds I may incriminate myself or others, i'm pleading the 5th (it's the 5th right? teachers help me out here!)

Die Compatibility Chart 2007
This is a die cutter compatibility chart that I've compiled from various sources on the internet. I own one of the original Sizzix
machines, a Sidekick, and the Big Shot, so I can definitely attest to compatibility in those machines.
For the Big Shot, it's definitely easiest to use the multipurpose platform. It eliminates the need to shim dies to their specific
heights for effective cutting. It lets you use embossing plates and brass stencils, too. The Big Impressions kit and/or Texturz kit
are very useful for embossing. Both come with the silicone rubber as well as the impressions plates needed for making good
impressions. I've discussed how these work elsewhere in my blog. Just do a search for them.
For the Cuttlebug and Wizard, there are sandwich combinations for the various thicknesses of dies. I won't get into those here
since I don't own either of those machines and I don't keep that info handy.
As far as using dies in the Sizzix, thick dies work fine, so long as one aspect is less than 4 7/8"--that's the width of the
platform. You may need to experiment with shimming to get good cuts or impressions. I've heard of folks using more than one
white pad or more than the usual two cutting pads to get the correct thickness of material to work, but they will work in this
machine with some tinkering. The Sizzix converter and adapters can be very useful here. It's also hard to beat this machine
when it comes to flattening bottlecaps or cutting chipboard.
The Sidekick basically can take only thin dies or impression/embossing folders that are 2" or less in one aspect. That's the
width of the opening. The dies can be any length, so long as you have a cutting pad long enough for them.
I don't have either the Bosskut or the Zipemate. My info is a bit sketchy on those two machines. I can say that their dies work
quite well in the Big Shot. The Zipemate platform is the same as the old Sizzix, so 4 7/8" max width. Bosskut max width is 3".
A few final notes...

I think it's safe to say that if a die works in the Big Shot or Big Kick, it will work in the Cuttlebug, and vice versa.

For the Big Shot, Big Kick, and probably Cuttlebug, it's best to use dies with the cutting side up.

I'll be making a chart of materials that the various dies can cut. That's still to come.

The Big Shot/Big Kick, Cuttlebug, and Wizard are the most versatile cutters when it comes to non-commercial dies.
If anyone has more information about one of the machines or sees something that needs correction or clarification, just leave
me a comment and I'll address it or add it when I get a chance. Or you can email me at [email protected].

I have a Big Shot already and I love it. I use it all the time -- so this is really cool. I won't buy a new one, 'cause they are a bit expensive ... but I'll get the dies 4 sure!!

So when I saw the Cricut I had to have and ran out and bought it. Then I saw the cuttlebug and had to have it and ran out and bought it. Even though our dies will work with the bug you know what will happen....I'll have to get the silly big shot just because......
I'm off to find a street corner so I can afford all this new stuff.....
