Well I bought one yesterday and I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything I need to know about this machine. I have a cuttlebug and a sizzix. So can you sell me on this one? I like it but it was so expensive I haven't decided whether to keep it or not. Please convince me!!!!
I have had mine for about a year. I think I have used it maybe 10 times or so. I like it but I get annoyed with the paper and the sticky mats. It is great when I want some letters. I am not a big scrapbooker so maybe that is why I haven't used it as much as I thought.
I wasn't interested in the cricut until I borrowed the machine from the store I teach classes at. I was able to pick coordinating papers and cut the titles (with their shadows) for 20 layouts and some extra accents within 2 hours. It made scrapping those pages a snap! I was sold and am now a proud owner!
I also have the Sizzix and I have the regular Cricut and the Cricut that cuts 12 X 12 up to 12 x 24. I love it! I have made booklets for kids using the Animal Kingdom and I love the tags and bags cartridge. I have used it to decorate a cabin for a girls camp with a jungle theme. I really prefer the bigger machine. It has so many features the smaller one doesn't. Both are awesome for cutting letters.
I would definately keep it. I still love my sizzix since it will cut so many different materials.
well I didn't get the 12x12 version but I don't scrapbook much so I don't know how much I will use it for cardmaking. But I like how it cuts I don't like how the paper sticks to the mat though. Any suggestions for this? I really had a hard time getting the paper off the mat. Because I didn't but the kit with it.
I use to work at Michaels (part-time) and was there the day the original cricut went on the shelves. At the time you could use the Michaels coupon so I bought it. At the beginning I used it a lot. At the time I was working exclusively on scrapbooks. Yes I have a Sizzix (which I won't get rid of), the Cuttlebug (which I won't get rid of) and some Quickutz (which I can use in the Cuttlebug).
This past summer "I had to have" (we have all been there), the Expression. So I drove to Buffalo to buy it (you couldn't get it or afford it in Canada). Now that I am working 99% on cards - I rarely ever use the Cricut or Expression. It is way too fiddly and the Expression is just too big to bring out to cut one shape for a card (unless I was doing something mass produced!).
Will I ever get rid of them - probably not. But unless I get back into Scrapbooking (which I may), I probably won't be using either the Cricut or Expression very much.
I use my Cricut for card making and scrapbooking! I love making scalloped circles and squares to mat circles and squares for cards. The things you can do are endless! My Cricut is on the list of "things to grab in case there is a fire!"...family first, of course!
My son is getting me a Cricut for Christmas--not sure whether it's the original or the Expression. Anyhow--which cartridge does the scalloped circles, squares etc.? He told me I'm supposed to be thinking which cartridges I want . . .

Cricut is great for either cards or scrapbooking. I make cute. b'day cards for
grandkids with the cartridges. Love to make layered flowers to put on things.
There are more things to do with each cartridge than I even know about.
Love that it does the cutting and I don't have too. I like the shape
cartridges but the fonts are nice too. Wish I had the expression but I don't see that happening unless I win the lottery-roflol!!
I have a Cricut and you really have to have some of the tools in the kit to get the paper off. Otherwise, you'll end up with a bunch of ruffled corners and agrivation. That said, I love my Cricut and would never get rid of it. You can use it for more than letters. There is the Tags, Bags, Boxes and More which makes the cutest tiny bags that are great for party favors, kids parties, etc. I also have a Cuttlebug, but don't consider them to be in the same league. Now I am interested in QuickKutz. I need a bigger closet and bank account first!
You might want to check out the Cricut thread for more info on the machine and the cartridges. I love my Cricut, and use it for cards, scrapbooking and school projects for the kids.

The "Mini Monograms" cartridge does scalloped squares & circles. I've been told "Celebrations" cartridge has scalloped square, circle & rectangle but I can't confirm that since I don't have that one.
If you go to cricut.com, select the information tab at the top then click on cartridge library which has all the handbooks (which show the cuts) available to view/print. That way you can figure out what you want!
