It's the cut
and the lack of stickiness in the foam. I don't have this issue with thinly cut EZ Mount stamps, but do with SU stamps. EZ Mount has better adhesive on the foam.
I too, have reattached with Crystal Effects. It does harden over time. So, I agree with the suggestion of using rubber cement.
