Default Cookbook ideas desperately needed!

Once again, I need my fellow SCS's help - in casual conversation with my DSD, she mentioned that she wanted me to write down my recipes for her to take to college.

I spoke w/ my husband and decided to make her a handmade cookbook of all the recipes she picked out as a Christmas present.

My issue now, is how do I make it? 6x6 like a recipe swap? full 8x11 paper w/ page protectors?

I hate being so stressed out that my creative mojo goes on vacation. Any ideas will be greatly appreciated!!

I have a recipe book done in ms publisher. It is done as a booklet (1/2 sheet of paper). I found a recipe card template somewhere, enlarged it to fit on the 1/2 sheet of paper, and a small graphic is on the bottom center. It works well for me and what I want to use it for. Good luck and have fun.

I would do the 8x11 and then write a little something about each recipe on each of the pages. Have fun working on your project.

Digital Two for Tuesday: Recipe Challenge Day 1
She has some awesome Free digi for recipes. I would go with 8x11 with protectors. I love protectors, save many a recipe ;)
you should be able to find a Word template or may be an on line cookbook, that can be saved and printed.

I would do 8.5x11. That way, if you put them in a 3-ring binder, it can be easily added to by the recipient by printing off recipes they might find on the internet. I did one like that for my niece who's now a junior in college. She keeps adding her favorites to it all the time.

A 6x6 book would probably be the easiest and then you could put them into a 6x6 binder. I find 6x6 pages to be the easiest for me because then I feel as though I don't have to fill up so much space as when I'm making larger pages.

I hosted a recipe swap awhile back. Here is the link just in case you would need any ideas:

and here are some of my 6x6 recipe pages if you would like to see them:

I have a few more, but you get the idea.

I wanted to add that the trouble I have sometimes making recipe pages is that I don't always have the images I want. If you need any images and I can help you just let me know and I'll be glad to send you some.

I just recently bought these Cardkeepers items from Stamper's Dream, but haven't done anything with them yet.

http://www.stampersdream.com/SearchResults.asp?Cat=492

Michelle has some really cute samples of on her blog, as well as links to other blog projects (I think, it has been a while since I looked).

I don't scrap, but my son is getting married next spring, and has asked for the family recipes. I thought this would be a good idea, and with the small size I wouldn't be too awfully intimidated.

I've made two dessert only cookbooks. I bought 8x8 scrapbooks when they were 1/2 off. Then I bought DCWV stacks in that size to use for backgrounds. I typed my recipes up and printed them on 4x6 cards in a neutral color that I made out of cardstock. Then I went to town mounting them. I added a few additional embellishments but most of them didn't need anything. They're in page protectors so they won't get dirty and I left some blank pages in each book so the girls could add to them later. They both loved them.

As a cook, I'd say definitely whatever you go with, try to use page-protectors!! I think I'm not exactly untidy in the kitchen, but you can easily find my favourite recipes in most of my books - even in my handwritten book which I try to keep well out of the way of any splashes. Especially if it's going to an heirloom - which it should be .

Reading this, reminds me of what my daughter has sat in the kitchen.

It's the school one and they did A4 which is your 8 by 11 size.
Bound with Hinged Rings so you can take one page shopping.

It's Lamintated and so can be wipped clean.. it has a sheet with this information on it.

Cooking time.
Prep time.

Tools list.

Ingredients.

Skills.

Method.

Tips to change method. ie. use canned fruit, or frozen.

It's a bit like a digital scrapbook page. But it gets used all the time.

We also have a book stand it sits on.

I did books for each of my girls, and one for myself. I did them 8.5x11 and used page protectors. This way more can be added. I love mine. I used a sturdy 3 ring binder where the "cover" can be slipped into the front pocket. Everything stays nice and clean!

Best thing I have found is a 3 ring binder with what ever pages fit in that. But just make sure the pages are in plastic sleeves.... I found this out the hard away lol

I love the idea of pass on handwriting for year to come. My DD is only 9, but a few weeks ago I decided I wanted to start something for her to have as well.

So my plan is to start with an 8 x 11 page, which I have the following headers: Recipe, Source, Ingredients, Directions, Notes. I have some recipes that came from my mom and my grandmother, so I really want her to have right in front of her where we got it from and memories about it.

Then I am going to take photos as I make the recipes to add to either the other page or possibly scan and shrink the recipe and add it all on one page. As of right now I am going to use a regular binder to add the recipes in so that she can add new ones as she wants and they can be in protective covers.

I have a few recipes written up, but other than starting the initial concept, I have not spent much time on it.

A year or two ago I took a class at CKC where we made acrylic cookbooks. Since then I have been working on gathering recipes for my "cookbook" to pass down to my boys. Yes, I said boys. I often have my boys help me in the kitchen when cooking or baking. Nowadays they tend to take over when they help. I truly enjoy working in the kitchen with them. Now to get them to unload and reload the dishwasher... hahahha

Back to the cookbook, I have bought these binders. http://www.avery.com/avery/en_us/Pro...m?N=4294967264 4294963956 4294965728&Ns=Rank|0||Product Number|1&refchannel=a834f5b027a4a110VgnVCM1000002118140aRCR D They are alot cheaper at Staples. I didn't want something too large but not a small crafty acrylic one (like I originally planned). I have a food blog and always take photos when I post a recipe, so I will include the recipe and photo when making my cookbook. I will scrap a cover page to slip in the front cover. I have tabs made up for the different sections. Now just to print the recipes.

I am rethinking adding some handwritten pages (even though I can not stand my handwriting) but I do believe in passing down handwriten notes/letters for future generations.

I was thinking of laminating the pages since I probably won't find page protectors for this size binder. What do you think???

I think this will be a project to finish this weekend.

edit: I just found some sheet protectors so maybe I will just order those.

Ladies, thank you for your comments and offers of images - I greatly appreciate this! I've ordered some recipe binders tonight that really capture the personalities of my daughters - husband now wants me to make one for the older daughter as well.

Off to start playing with the recipe card designs!
