I'm making Monogram composition books, that I've covered with Designer Paper. I was wondering if anyone has used modgepodge on a composition book to protect/perserve it? If so, how has it held up?
I have given them as gifts so I cannot comment on the life of the notebook. Sometimes I do not want to lose the feel of the front so I spray with an sealer (I use the plaid brand). That way it doen't collect as much dirt. I use Mod Podge as an adhesive, though almost always. It is the fastest, cheapest, and most secure (than other methods I have tried.)
PLEASE NOTE!!!
1) Mod Podge is water based. It has the potential to run water based die inks (SU!'s Classic). Spray a sealer first if you are going to Mod Podge over this type of stamping.
2) If you seal it with Mod Podge (or any other decoupodge medium) you must have used it as an adhesive under the paper.
3) Before sealing with Mod Podge--make sure the adhesive coat (under the paper) is completely dry or it will bubble and tear leaving a mess.
Thanks for your mod podge tips. For #3, how long do you leave for this to dry? (I always get bubbles/wrinkles).
Depending on the environment--we are so humid here right now it would take at least over night. It should not be cool to the touch--just room temperature.
If the wrinkles are there from the coat underneath the paper often you can smooth them out with a finger or many times they disappear when it it dry.
If acid-free is an issue for you, make sure you use the Paper Mod Podge, it's the only one that is. I use my brayer for smoothing the bubbles/wrinkles, it works very well.
Have fun!

Questions -
What kind of sealer? Just normal like an acrylic spray or something different?
Does anyone know the fix to the 'tacky' feel of using modge podge? I made an organizer for myself, covered it with modge podge and it still feels kind of tacky a couple months later.
I did a composition book with modge podge using it to seal as well as adhere the cardstock. The only problem I've seen with it is that it tends to keep the cover lifted and won't quite shut properly. I suppose if you put a heavy book on top for a few days it might make a difference.
Usually I just use sticky strip to adhere the paper to the comp. book and don't worry about sealing it. They seem to hold up pretty well. HTH!! :-)
and if mod podge DRIES on your clothes (or any fabric) it is PERMANENT
there is no cure (yes I called plaid . they know of no cure either.)
um I mean so I have heard.....
(it dries mostly clear but fairly stiff...)
working that craft test center to serve you...
betsy
The best thing to do to seal mod podge is to spray it with a sealer so it won't be tacky. I have used it to seal things and the minute it gets humid, they stick together! That's how I found I needed it to be sprayed with sealer after.
I was reading the jar of modge podge the other day thinking I might use it for comp books - I've used sticky strip so far. It talked about what to do about sealing the tackiness, but I can't remember. Try reading the whole jar and it might tell you. I remember there were several different types of modge podge but I don't remember which one said it.
Royal Coat by Plaid is a product that works like Mod Podge but it does not dry sticky. It does not show brush marks as much as Mod Podge either and you can find it at M or HL. If you want more info on it just do a search here on SCS and you find quite a bit.

I found some Sepia Royal Coat at Hobby Lobby. It puts an antique finish to whatever you are doing and it works just like Mod Podge but does not dry sticky.
